Chapter 302: Even the Radicals Think It's Too Radical
The conversation continued until noon when it finally wrapped up.
Li Tong and Qin Yun didn't linger in the small conference room but left directly to report to Zhao Haiping.
In the small conference room.
Only Lin Chuan and Shen Qianqian remained.
Shen Qianqian pursed her lips, let out a long breath through her nose, and murmured, "Writer Lin, it seems this plan isn't going to be as simple to accomplish as we thought."
Lin Chuan sat next to her, holding a teacup, and took a casual sip. "It's just a bit more complicated, still within expectations."
"Even this is within your expectations?" Shen Qianqian frowned slightly, somewhat surprised.
"Shouldn't it be?"
Lin Chuan countered.
Shen Qianqian's gaze fell on Lin Chuan's face, their eyes meeting.
However, she couldn't read anything from his eyes and slightly shifted her gaze to size him up.
"What are you looking at?" Lin Chuan asked.
"I highly suspect being a web novel writer is just a cover for you!" Shen Qianqian concluded earnestly yet seriously.
Lin Chuan was slightly surprised but laughed, "Why would you say that?"
"From what I know about web novel writers, they are all very serious, not like you, who knows everything and is skilled in everything," Shen Qianqian said half-jokingly, half-seriously.
"Your understanding is quite one-sided." Lin Chuan chuckled.
"Your good buddy Wang Zikai doesn't have your skills," Shen Qianqian said, appearing to expose Lin Chuan.
Not only Old Wang but also Old Wang's partner, Xue Qiqi, who is another web novel writer.
She often met up with Shen Qianqian.
Representing both of them, Shen Qianqian had quite an understanding of web novel writers.
"Old Wang, eh." Lin Chuan muttered.
"Exactly."
Lin Chuan pondered, "He is a bit lacking in skill, that's true."
A black line appeared on Shen Qianqian's face, "He's still an author with tens of thousands of subscribers, you know."
Uh... Lacking like someone with tens of thousands of subscribers?
That doesn't sound right!
Lin Chuan raised an eyebrow and quickly corrected, "It's not about the results, what I mean is, although he's achieved success in web novels, he's less proficient in other areas."
"Are you good in multiple fields?" Shen Qianqian blinked.
Lin Chuan noticed the look on Shen Qianqian's face, realizing she was trying to probe him, and said, "I am more of a pure web novel writer."
Ah, spit!
Shen Qianqian inwardly cursed.
Comrade Lin Chuan, if you are a pure web novel writer, then what about those who are genuinely dedicated to writing web novels?
"I knew you wouldn't believe me." Lin Chuan smiled lightly.
Experience tales at empire
"Knowing I wouldn't believe, you still try to dupe me?"
Shen Qianqian hummed.
"I have no intention of duping you." Lin Chuan smiled then continued, "Don't mind my confusing skills, they are actually efforts I make to write my novels more realistically, to create more empathy and resonate with readers."
Having spoken, Lin Chuan nodded affirmatively to himself.
I believe it myself.
Shen Qianqian's eyes narrowed, her eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Absolutely, this guy couldn't be trusted with a single word.
Pure deception.
Lin Chuan then listed a series of web novel writers.
For instance, one who wanted to write well about tomb robbing really went 'sweet potato digging' into pits, and unsurprisingly, ran into trouble and got caught the next day.
Another author tried setting up a street food stall to write about it, discovered he earned more from the stall than writing, and stuck with it.
Yet another writer actually invested in the stock market and experienced dramatic ups and downs.
Well, just downs, because he bought at the peak, ending up with countless losses, and inevitably, he had to return to writing seriously.
The world of web novelists is quite fascinating too.
Shen Qianqian was half-convinced by Lin Chuan, half-doubtful.
But, she didn't care much about others; her focus remained on Lin Chuan.
She looked at him and asked, "By the way, I want to ask you something."
"Ask away."
"How did you figure out that Officer Li Tong had just come back from undercover work?" Shen Qianqian asked earnestly, seemingly eager to learn.
Lin Chuan touched his stomach, "It's almost noon, haven't eaten yet."
Shen Qianqian let out a small hum but still took Lin Chuan out to a nearby restaurant at the police station and ordered food.
"Let's leave it at that, thank you."
Lin Chuan contentedly handed the menu back to the waiter.
"Can we talk about it now?" Shen Qianqian sat across Lin Chuan, mentally mourning her wallet for a second.
"I can read faces."
Lin Chuan said mysteriously.
"Read faces?"
Shen Qianqian was taken aback.
Isn't that some kind of metaphysics?
How do you even know that?
"Yes." Lin Chuan nodded.
"That line could fool a three-year-old, plus, being a charlatan in the Martial World also counts as fraud, you know, if the amount is big enough, we can arrest you," Shen Qianqian teased slightly.
"Who said I was a charlatan from the Martial World?" Lin Chuan retorted.
Shen Qianqian pouted, "You started talking about face reading."
Lin Chuan smiled, "This face-reading is not what you think."
Shen Qianqian crossed her arms and fixedly looked at Lin Chuan, seemingly ready for him to try to deceive her.
Lin Chuan then explained, "I observed the pale and yellowish hint on Officer Li Tong's complexion."
"How do you see that?"
"With the eyes."
"You're still fooling around!"
"Alright, I'll explain seriously now." Lin Chuan laughed and then earnestly started to explain to Shen Qianqian, "Officer Li Tong's outer facial skin is sort of yellow; I saw her hands were yellow too, did you notice that?"
Shen Qianqian, seeing Lin Chuan getting to the point, immediately nodded, "Noticed."
Each one working in criminal detection could indeed be called a detail freak.
Not just Li Tong but also Qin Yun, she had observed them closely, quietly noting down many features.
"Have you also noticed that, actually, the arms Officer Li Tong hid under her sleeves were fair?" Lin Chuan patiently persuaded.
