Ashen Dragon

Chapter 302: Endings and the Hunt for the Culprit (Part 2)

Duke Franz spoke heavily, "Right now we are their allies in name, and can maintain a superficial peace, but what about the future?"

Adrian, with a serious expression, said solemnly, "Your Grace, I don't know where the future leads, I only know—now we must do everything in our power to drive these brutal five-colored dragons out of our homeland and end this disaster."

Duke Franz sighed deeply, "You're right, I'm just worried... if the ambitions of the Ashen Empire's Emperor extend beyond this, these so-called 'Starfallen' will bring an even greater calamity to Seleucis."

Adrian lifted his longsword, and wings formed by light gathered behind him, "Let's go, Your Grace, there's no need to overthink. At least for now... we fight for Seleucis, we fight for Fadlan!"

Franz nodded in deep agreement, and this seemingly rough yet inwardly delicate duke once again hefted his exaggerated great sword, plunging into the slaughter with the Green Dragon Legion.

"Evil dragons! Pay for your atrocities!"

...

Twelve Green Dragons.

Most of them are adult dragons, mature dragons, and even one terrifying Ancient Green Dragon.

Gathered together, these Green Dragons are a formidable force by Fianso standards. For them, slaughtering a city with tens of thousands of people or even destroying a small duchy is all too easy.

The "Lord of the Rot Swamp" dispatched this Green Dragon Legion to the narrow, remote, sparsely populated Green Valley Town to completely destroy the resistance led by Franz and to crush the last hope in the hearts of the Seleucid people.

But after nearly thirty thousand elite players arrived through a large portal in Green Valley Town, everything changed, and the scales of victory quickly tilted to one side.

The numerous, weaker cultists were slaughtered instantaneously, rivers of blood flowed everywhere, and all sorts of monsters and beasts with dragon bloodline were also eradicated.

Even the Green Dragon Legion, which the "Lord of the Rot Swamp" prided himself on, was hunted by players like prey, and even dragon corpses were openly divided among them.

Nearby the Sword Bay Region are a few famous cities, such as Waterdeep, Elturel, and Neverwinter. Waterdeep was established on the ruins of Erin Four, the capital of the Elf Empire Ilfaen, with many divine temples and the Supreme Miracle House being the most magnificent Magic Goddess Temple in the game, featuring a luxurious high tower adorned with various paintings and magical decorations in a baroque style, while Neverwinter leans more towards Gothic architecture, formed over nearly a century of development after humans initially settled in Aegostor. The story's Main City, Bod Gate, is the largest and most prosperous trade city-state in the Sword Bay Region, mixed from nobles to commoners and thieves, known by adventurers as a "breeding ground for conspiracies". The name Bod Gate comes from a hero, the Grey Port adventurer Bodlan, who explored beyond the Sword Sea continent, returned with wealth to Grey Port, and led the team to build a city here. The city is divided based on residents' status, with a Upper City District for the nobles, Lower District for the commoners, and an Outer City District scattered around Chenyi Mountain. The gate dividing Upper and Lower City is called Bod Gate, and the city is named after it, serving as a monument to the city's founder Bodlan. Currently, Bod Gate is ruled by a council of four Great Dukes, one serving as the council leader. If a vote results in a tie, Great Duke Elder Ravenclaw makes the decision. The Upper City's security is managed by an official elite police force called the Guard, while other areas are patrolled by a mercenary group known as the Flaming Fist, with Great Duke Elder Ravenclaw serving as its highest leader. The mercenary group's headquarters, Bodlan Sea Tower, is the strongest fortress against maritime invasions, and Grey Harbor, embracing Bod Gate like a crescent, is the city's economic lifeline with hundreds of merchant ships entering and leaving daily, bringing gold coins and also greed and sin. The Upper City has a higher terrain, composed of Castle District, Temple District, Manoburn District, and Wide Alley District, with many religious buildings. The Miracle Hall and Supreme Miracle House are the centers of the God of Craft's church in Bod Gate, with Miracle Hall showcasing Gund's great inventions, and Supreme Miracle House serving as a workshop. The Lower District buildings are mostly stone houses with six districts: Sea Tower District, Blonrich District, Steep District, Crowded Side District, East Road District, and Branpton District. The middle class generally resides in Blonrich District near the noble Upper City, while East Road District near the Outer City is relatively mixed with lively pubs and cheap inns. The Sea Tower District is where the Flaming Fist is stationed, and on the largest rocky offshore island near the Sea Tower District, the mercenary group's headquarters, Bodlan Sea Tower, has been built. Branpton District and Steep District are relatively run-down, serving as living communities for sailors and laborers. The Outer City District follows along the Chongsar River, gathering temporary structures and slums, with a landmark building being the Flying Dragon Crossroad, a stone bridge across the river. Many vendors gather here, even expanding the bridge with planks, adding many structures above, where law and order do not exist. Even the Flaming Fist's protection range here is very limited, with poor people or criminals who cannot settle in the city gathering here. The arches of the sewer ceiling gleam green in the dim lantern light, the murky sewage covers the shoe soles, and each step stirs a sticky "gurgling" sound. Purple-black mucus seeps from cracks in the walls, converging at the drains like veins—it is the unique neuro-corrosive substance of a Spirit Sucking Monster Nest, causing hallucinations when inhaled by ordinary people, as if numerous tiny tendrils are squirming in their ear canals. Suddenly, a misaligned "click" sound comes from behind a broken cast iron pipe, as if something is twisting through a narrow space. A spirit-sucking monster bursts from the water, its pale humanoid body covered in detritus, octopus-like head tendrils vibrating at a high frequency, emitting visible purple mind shock waves. The helmet of the leading guard dents, their eyeballs burst into a blood mist from the increased cranial pressure; the second person is penetrated through the ear canal by tendrils before they can even scream, the spine puppeteer-like pulled from the body; the sole surviving one staggers back, but the gunfire of a misfiring firearm is completely drowned out by the sub-frequency shriek of the spirit sucking monsters. These spirit sucking monsters are clearly trained tactically. Two feinting individuals strike the water surface with tendrils, stirring up a corrosive liquid fog to obscure vision; a third dangles from the ceiling, adhesion pads gripping onto the guard's skull, with tendril tips precisely piercing the foramen magnum—not to cause immediate death, but manipulate the captive like a puppet, forcing him to turn around with trembling hands to load ammunition for their companion's firearm. At this moment, the fourth spirit sucking monster is using the bone blade of its knuckles to open the chest cavity of a fallen guard, extracting the warm liver to feed to its mouthparts, as pale yellow digestive liquid drips from the jaw, etching thin plumes into the ground. Three patrolling guards just raised a lantern when the sewage suddenly exploded! Four hosted parasitic beings were not completely dead. The guards' mangled bodies suddenly start to crawl up, translucent spirit sucking monster larvae tendrils protruding from the cracked necks, with pupils dilated into cloudy milky whites. One grabbed a dagger to stab at their erstwhile comrades, squeezing out a non-human synthetic voice from the throat: "Skull... for the Overmind..." But the real horror was just beginning—the distant sewage pool began to boil, with more pale figures emerging from the water. They dragged with their tendrils a dozen hostage captives wrapped in mucus cocoons, those humanoid faces twisting into silent screams beneath the cocoon shells.
