Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Do You Take Me for a Clown?
A new day dawned, with clear skies.
A gentle breeze blew, and the sunlight was bright and warm.
Leisurely making his way to the Department of Defense, Homelander basked in the soothing warmth of sunlight on his skin while absorbing solar radiation and storing it within himself.
Not in a hurry to reach the Department of Defense, he hovered mid-air and opened his status panel to check on his progress.
---
Name: John (Homelander)
Life Level: 5 (Extraordinary)
Status: Normal
Abilities:
Heat Vision +2 (113/500)
Deep Space Flight (14/200)
First Cosmic Velocity (46/200)
Biotic Field +2 (174/500)
Divine Strength (74/200)
Regeneration +2 (11/100)
Insight +2 (17/100)
---
Clearly, after the "Dawn of Justice" incident, the proficiency of all abilities had significantly increased.
Among his abilities, except for the last two, all others had undergone qualitative changes.
Heat Vision and Biotic Field had not only transformed but also advanced to +2. Compared to the Manhattan incident, both abilities had leveled up during the battles.
Additionally, Flight had transformed into Deep Space Flight.
Supersonic Movement had become First Cosmic Velocity.
Super Strength had evolved into Divine Strength.
Homelander reviewed the information on these three transformed abilities.
Deep Space Flight enabled him to fly beyond Earth and navigate outer space.
First Cosmic Velocity allowed him to move at nearly 8 kilometers per second, far exceeding the speed of sound.
Divine Strength, even more remarkable, allowed him to channel every ounce of power from his muscles and cells, granting him strength comparable to mythical gods.
With a single punch, he could easily destroy an entire city.
If he wished, he could even cause tectonic plate shifts, triggering tsunamis, earthquakes, and other catastrophic events.
"I've grown this much, yet my life level hasn't increased. Why is that?"
Homelander's gaze fell on the abilities Regeneration and Insight.
These were the only abilities yet to undergo qualitative change. If they did, would his life level rise as a result?
Pondering this, he spotted the Department of Defense building.
Whoosh—
Transforming into a streak of light, Homelander landed at the main entrance of the building.
At the entrance, people bustled about. It was the morning rush for Department of Defense officials.
Of course, high-ranking officials could arrive whenever they pleased, an unspoken privilege of their authority, and no one would dare criticize them.
At that moment, a man stood at the entrance, sipping coffee and glancing at his watch.
"It's already nine o'clock. Didn't he say he'd be here today? Could Homelander be standing me up?"
The man wore a badge on his chest that read: National Contract Management Bureau, Administrator McGee Jason.
Boom!
A sudden gust of wind swept through the entrance, causing several women to shriek. Fortunately, as a government institution, formal attire was required, and most women wore pantsuits.
Had they been dressed in lighter skirts, they'd be busy shielding their modesty.
McGee Jason's face wrinkled as the wind hit him, and his coffee spilled onto his freshly polished shoes.
Frustrated, he let out a low growl, only to see a figure crouching in the middle of the square outside.
Under the sunlight, the figure stood tall, their golden hair dazzling, sky-blue eyes like lakes reflecting the heavens, and a warm smile gracing their lips.
Homelander!
Gasps echoed from the surrounding government employees as McGee hurried toward the figure clad in a black suit and a vibrant red cape.
"Homelander, can I take a photo with you?"
"Homelander, may I have your autograph?"
"Homelander, can I kiss you?"
Despite being at the Department of Defense, it was clear Homelander had numerous fans among government workers.
With a smile, he posed for a photo with a greasy middle-aged man, signed an autograph for a bespectacled young man, and allowed a beautiful woman to plant a kiss on his cheek.
Amid the commotion, a man pushed his way forward, extending his hand.
"Homelander, hello. I'm McGee Jason, an administrator from the National Contract Management Bureau. I've been assigned as your 'guide.'
"This building has 23,000 rooms and 17.5 miles of corridors. If it's your first time here, you might get lost."
Homelander nodded, posed for a few more photos with some attractive women, and finally said to McGee, "Lead the way."
McGee, both thrilled and enthusiastic, led Homelander into the building, constantly pointing out its features.
It took them a full 15 minutes to reach Homelander's office.
Seeing the plaque reading Superhuman Oversight Department, Minister's Office, Homelander nodded. But upon entering, his expression turned cold.
The office was sparse, with only a desk and chair by the window. No other furnishings, no assistants, not even a single staff member.
Homelander glanced at McGee.
McGee looked equally puzzled. "I thought they'd prepared everything."
"Please wait a moment. I'll make a call."
As McGee stepped out, Homelander stood silently, surveying the bare walls.
Shortly after, McGee returned with a middle-aged man in tow.
"Homelander, this is Mr. Norman, director of our bureau's office."
"Mr. Norman, the office seems incomplete."
The white-haired, gold-rimmed-glasses-wearing Norman glanced at Homelander, his expression indifferent.
"Yes, we weren't sure what setup you needed, so we didn't prepare anything.
"Homelander, here's what you can do.
"List the office supplies you need—computers, printers, etc.—as well as any personnel like assistants or clerks.
"Compile your requirements into a report and submit it to our bureau for approval.
"The process will need signatures from me, three other directors, and our bureau chief. Once approved, we'll arrange everything for you as soon as possible."
Homelander stood in silence for a few seconds before breaking into a warm smile.
"Is that all?
"You've appointed me as this so-called head of oversight, and this is your Department of Defense's sincerity?
"Mr. Norman," Homelander said, stepping closer, hands clasped behind his back, still smiling.
"You stand here giving me instructions, asking me to submit reports for your review.
"Do you… take me for a clown?"
