The moment Link Star returned to the underground workshop, he summoned Janna.
"What is it?"
Janna's ethereal form materialized before him, carried by a gentle breeze. Compared to ten days ago, her phantom-like appearance had become more defined, her details more intricate, exuding the grace and majesty befitting a goddess.
"Janna, what do you know about the Harrowing?" Link asked as he removed his shirt, preparing to inject himself with a serum designed to enhance his body.
Janna's gaze lingered on Link's bare torso, tracing the contours of his shoulders, collarbone, waist, and the faint outline of muscles forming on his abdomen.
"Janna?" Link prompted when she didn't respond immediately.
"The Harrowing—" Janna snapped out of her reverie, floating upside down in the air. Her long, flowing hair drifted toward Link, tickling his nose and making him want to sneeze.
"For me, it is an unbearable abomination—filthy, decaying, and lifeless," Janna said, her voice tinged with rare disgust. This was the first time Link had seen such emotion from her since he had awakened her.
"Can you dispel the Black Mist?" Link asked as he fastened a peculiar half-plate armor to his body. The armor clung to him like interlocking gears, biting into his flesh, with a syringe-like port positioned over his heart.
As he adjusted the armor, he waited for Janna's answer.
"Of course!" Janna replied with a hint of pride. "The Black Mist may be a calamity for the living and a paradise for the dead, but at its core, it's just a fog infused with ruinous energy. In my prime, I could summon a storm of unprecedented magnitude to scatter the mist and blow the spirits within to the ends of the world."
Link paused and looked at her skeptically, which only annoyed her further.
"What's that look for?"
"Well—" Link coughed awkwardly. "We're close enough that you don't need to exaggerate. Just be honest with me."
"Are you saying I'm boasting?" Janna pinched Link's ear, forcing him to stand on his tiptoes as he yelped in pain. "Ow, ow, ow! Let go! I was wrong, oh great, benevolent, beautiful, and graceful goddess!"
"Hmph—" Janna released his ear and crossed her arms. "As my chosen one, my representative, and my preacher, you should have learned to revere your goddess by now!"
"Reverence isn't about words; it's about what's in the heart," Link said, pointing to the syringe port on his chest. Janna glanced at it and raised an eyebrow. "And where in your heart is that reverence?"
"Somewhere between the aorta and the pulmonary artery?" Link blinked innocently. Janna's smile turned menacing. "Oh?"
"Ahem, that's not the point. The point is, I need your help, Janna!" Link said earnestly. "I have a grand plan, and I need the assistance of my beloved goddess!"
"Let me guess," Janna said, examining her flawless hands. "Are you planning to drag me into some reckless scheme or to wreak havoc on another region's followers?"
"Am I really that predictable?"
"So, what is it this time?"
"Harvesting the faith of an entire city. Interested?"
"Which city?"
"Bilgewater."
Link's eyes gleamed with determination. The moment Janna mentioned she could dispel the Black Mist, the plan had formed in his mind. He would take Janna to Bilgewater and have her unleash her ultimate ability—Monsoon—right in the heart of the city. If they succeeded, the Bluebird Mercantile plan could be implemented simultaneously in both Piltover and Bilgewater.
Janna's gaze lingered on Link as he nervously met her eyes. Finally, she sighed. "My child, why do you always present me with such challenges?"
"I just—" Before Link could finish, Janna placed a finger on his lips and leaned down to kiss his forehead.
As her lips touched his skin, Link felt a surge of divine power flow through him.
Janna's form grew slightly translucent, and her voice became faint, like static from a poorly tuned radio.
"I will protect you, my child. No matter where you go, no matter where you are."
"The winds of change will always be with you."
With that, Janna vanished, leaving Link standing there in stunned silence. He touched his forehead and chuckled softly. "I told you I had a plan. Why did you have to make it seem like such a sacrifice?"
"Still—" A smile spread across his face. "The love of a goddess for her follower is truly something."
Link beckoned to Pride, who had been waiting nearby, and sent him out with a message for Daciana.
"Tell Daciana that no matter what it takes, within three days, I want half of the Twin Cities to worship Janna and provide her with devout faith."
He handed Pride a stack of blueprints and the Bluebird Mercantile plan. "Give these to her as well."
Pride took the documents and bowed. "As you command."
"Once you're done, don't rush back. Take your time and enjoy yourself."
Link patted Pride's head. "Now go."
"Yes."
Pride turned and left, leaving Link to return to his workshop. He retrieved the enhancement serum and replaced the stopper on the large vial with a specialized injector.
Inserting the injector into the port on his armor, Link shuddered as the needle pierced his skin, passed through his ribcage, and entered his heart.
"Everything I do is for those I love and those who love me."
As the serum began to flow into his veins, Link clenched his fists. His pupils glowed with a faint blue light.
"I will not fail. Not at anything."
By the time Link emerged from the underground workshop, dusk had fallen. The veins around his eyes had turned a deep blue, and his irises resembled sapphires, though a shadow of darkness lingered at their core.
As he stepped out of the elevator, his body swayed, and his shoulder collided with the metal doorframe. The impact left a deep dent, as if the frame had been bitten by some monstrous force.
Steadying himself, Link left handprints embedded in the metal as he stumbled out of the hidden entrance. Each step he took left deep impressions in the stone path and the surrounding grass as he adjusted to his newly enhanced physique.
The serum's effects had far exceeded his expectations, leaving him momentarily disoriented.
"Father—" Pride descended from the sky and landed before him. Link spread his arms. "Come here. Let me hug you."
Pride blinked, then eagerly approached. "Yes, Father."
Despite Pride's towering height of over three meters compared to Link's 1.8 meters, Link managed to lift him slightly off the ground.
Feeling the surge of power in his muscles and the ground giving way beneath his feet, Link set Pride down and flexed his wrists. "My strength has increased to at least three tons. I wonder how much my speed has improved."
He turned to Pride. "Has Daciana started her mission?"
"She's been obedient," Pride replied with a nod.
"Obedient, huh? Did Camille have a talk with her?"
"No matter."
Link dismissed the thought. As long as Daciana followed his orders, he didn't care about the details. If he had to micromanage everything, all his previous efforts would be for nothing.
"Activate the aerial walkway. We're heading to the Riverside Workshop."
"Yes, Father!"
Pride crouched down, and a platform with handles emerged from his back. Link stepped onto it, gripping the handles as Pride launched into the sky.
As they traveled, Link called out to Janna, instructing her to summon a few individuals to meet him.
After leaving a streak of light across the sky, Link and Pride arrived at the Riverside Workshop.
Link immediately sought out Singed, who was busy concocting a potion to preserve Orianna's vitality.
"Doctor—" Link burst into the lab.
"What is it? You seem to be in a hurry."
Link quickly explained that the Ferros family had been captured by Gangplank. Singed set down his tools and looked at Link. "What do you need from me? Just ask."
"I need more of Vander's catalyst and a refill for his chem-tech pump. Also, prepare some paralyzing gas with an antidote."
"Finally, create a toxin that can kill most people within a short time—and make sure there's an antidote for that too."
"Understood," Singed said before retreating to the blast-proof chamber with his vials.
Link didn't have to wait long before Vander arrived, accompanied by an excited Jinx.
Vander, massive and ape-like, entered the lab on all fours, his eyes immediately locking onto Pride.
Jinx, dragging Zeri along, squealed with delight.
"Hey, big dragon!" Jinx charged toward Pride, who looked at her with disdain before floating up to the ceiling.
Jinx pouted and whispered something to Zeri, who giggled in response.
Link overheard Jinx's complaints but chose to ignore them.
"Link, Janna said you needed me," Vander said, his voice calm and steady. "What do you need me to do?"
"I need you to help me kill, banish spirits, and conquer a city."
"It would be my pleasure," Vander replied with a nod.
