Three days later, at the Bluewind Estate.
The study of the family head.
"You're really living the easy life, Link Star—"
Dak'ar's voice carried a hint of complaint as she entered the study.
The past three days had been anything but restful for her. Between organizing her grandfather's funeral and managing the family's affairs, she had been working tirelessly to stabilize the family's internal dynamics while also dealing with external threats.
It had left her utterly exhausted.
"Those are your responsibilities, not mine," Link Star replied, turning away from the balcony to face her. "My job is to eliminate those who refuse to obey our will and commands. It's like fixing a broken machine—removing the faulty gears so everything can run smoothly and perfectly again."
Dak'ar rolled her eyes. "You sound just like our aunt now."
"Heh, I have to keep up appearances, don't I?"
Link Star stepped away from the balcony, bidding farewell to the gentle breeze that had been swirling around him, and took a seat on the sofa.
Dak'ar frowned as she observed his casual posture and the work clothes he was still wearing. "I sent a tailor to you, didn't I? Why are you still dressed like that?"
Link Star waved his hand dismissively. "Those trivial matters are your concern. I have other things to focus on."
"Ugh—" Dak'ar crossed her legs, mimicking Camille's signature pose. "Sometimes it feels like you're the one running the family, not me."
"Who knows?" Link Star shrugged. Dak'ar shook her head, deciding not to press the issue further. Instead, she brought up another matter. "What about the reforms you proposed for Piltover and Zaun? How are the preparations going?"
"Everything's planned out. We're ready to implement it," Link Star said, a lean figure appearing in his mind. "But before we execute the plan, I need to meet someone and resolve their issues. That's the key to ensuring the plan's success."
[You have a new message. Please check your inbox.]
A notification flashed before Link Star's eyes, causing him to pause. Dak'ar noticed his distracted expression and called out, "Link? Link—"
"Huh?" Link Star snapped out of his thoughts and smiled. "Sorry, I just had a sudden burst of inspiration. It made me zone out for a moment."
"You and your inventions," Dak'ar sighed. "Can you focus on the present for once? We need to stabilize the current situation and present a flawless report to our aunt. We also need to intimidate those fools. Once that's done, you can hide in your workshop for all eternity, and no one will bother you."
"Alright, let's get moving then."
Link Star stood up, leaning on his knees for support. "Send out invitations to all the families in Piltover. Ask them to send representatives to a meeting in three days."
"And what about you?"
Dak'ar looked at him, puzzled. Link Star shrugged.
"I'll handle the unstable elements and deal with Zaun's biggest problem."
In the underground workshop, Link Star turned on the lights and released Pride from his storage device.
Pride, who had been cooped up for days, was visibly restless. The moment he was released, he stretched his massive body and opened his mouth to let out a roar.
"Hmm?" Link Star shot him a look, and Pride immediately silenced himself. The three-meter-tall, one-ton behemoth looked like a scolded child, his eyes filled with委屈.
"Go play by yourself for a bit, but don't make too much noise," Link Star said, waving his hand. Pride nodded and began wandering around the workshop, exploring his surroundings.
"Now, let's see who sent this message." Link Star sat down at his workbench, which was cluttered with tools and scattered parts.
**[Hello, Link Star.
I am Viktor.]**
Link Star's hair stood on end, and a chill ran down his spine.
Viktor?
That Viktor?
Was this Viktor from another timeline, or the omnipotent Viktor who could interfere across timelines?
Link Star swallowed hard and continued reading.
**[After receiving your letter, I reviewed the numerous timelines I have observed and visited. I found no trace of your existence in any of them.
Looking back, the past is a blur. Looking forward, the future is chaos.
Your existence itself seems to be an extraordinary anomaly.
Like the rune beneath the Hextech Gate.
Don't be alarmed; I mean you no harm.
In fact, I am quite curious about you.
Curious about your past, your future, and your present!
If you don't mind, could you tell me about your timeline and everything that has happened there?]**
"It's really a letter from the omnipotent, perfectly evolved Viktor!"
Link Star leaned back in his chair, utterly stunned. He had fantasized about the omnipotent Viktor receiving his letter and offering some assistance to help him soar to new heights.
But now, having already overcome the most challenging phase of his journey and achieved his initial goals, receiving this letter filled him with a sense of dread.
Viktor's ability to interfere across timelines was simply too overpowering.
If Viktor wanted to do something to him, he'd be finished.
However, judging from the content of the letter, Viktor didn't seem hostile. In fact, he seemed genuinely curious.
Perhaps this was an opportunity to establish contact and see if he could gain something from it.
After all, Viktor was a goldmine of resources!
After gathering his thoughts, Link Star began crafting his reply, carefully choosing his words.
**[Hello, Viktor.
I'm delighted to receive your letter.
There's so much I'd like to share about my timeline.
First of all—]**
Link Star detailed everything he had done in his timeline, emphasizing the effort and dedication he had poured into changing the course of events.
He also subtly mentioned the assistance he had received from other timelines.
After all, how could he hope to gain something from the omnipotent Viktor without dropping a few hints?
Boldness, meticulousness, and a thick skin were essential for cross-dimensional begging!
**[Regarding your counterpart in this timeline, I was planning to make contact soon.
But receiving your letter first feels like a revelation from fate itself.
Perhaps it's destiny that brought us together at this moment.
Maybe I can help you, or at least the version of you in this timeline.
Of course, if you could offer me some assistance in return, that would be even better!]**
Link Star reviewed his reply and hit send.
"Now, all that's left is to wait." Link Star leaned back, resting his hands behind his head. Pride, who had been quietly observing, moved closer. The giant creature, still young and curious, watched Link Star with admiration, learning from his every move.
Link Star reached out and patted Pride's horns. As he did, another notification appeared before his eyes.
Viktor's reply came much faster than he had anticipated.
**[Link, if you're willing to lend a hand, I would be deeply grateful.
I once believed I could end all suffering in this world. But after solving every problem, I found only loneliness awaiting me.
Perfection brings no reward, and the pursuit of perfection has an end.
I hope you can teach the version of me in your timeline this lesson, so he may pursue a future different from mine.]**
Link Star noticed an attachment blinking in his inbox. He opened it, and a new notification appeared.
[You have received Viktor's gift—Rune Stone.]
A teardrop-shaped blue stone fell into Link Star's palm. At its center was a rune he had never seen before.
As he rubbed the rune, a sour, milky taste filled his mouth.
Link Star searched his memories, replaying scenes from the past like a slideshow, but he couldn't recall ever seeing this rune in any of the stories he knew.
"A rune stone with a brand-new rune," Link Star murmured, a smile tugging at his lips. "It seems the omnipotent Viktor is using me to conduct a new experiment."
"Well, if that's the case, I'll play along."
Link Star stood up and looked at Pride, who was crouched beside him. He patted the giant's head.
"Come on, Pride. Daddy's taking you out for some fun!"
