Chapter 519: Attracted Loneliness
6:20 PM in the evening.
The sun had set, and the sky was darkening.
Li Yu held a telescope, carefully observing the zombies outside the hospital.
Increasing numbers of zombies gathered on the streets to the left and right.
Despite their building being perfectly silent and dark, more and more zombies congregated outside the hospital entrance.
They had locked the hospital's iron gates when they entered, but they wouldn't hold for long if the number of zombies kept increasing.
These zombies, instead of going anywhere else, stubbornly clustered around the hospital entrance.
After observing for a while, Li Yu noticed amongst the zombie tide, aside from the figure identified earlier that seemed to be human, there was another "zombie" wielding a fire axe.
A chill flashed in Li Yu's eyes; the multitude of zombies besieging the hospital was no accident—this was orchestrated.
He suddenly recalled an organization that believed human extinction was the divine will of their god. The emergence of zombies represented human evolution, cleansing mankind's sins.
They walked with the zombies, aiming ultimately to eradicate humanity.
The organization was named: Corpse Speaker.
However, before his rebirth, Li Yu had spent five years in the outskirts of Devil Capital and later the surrounding areas.
Betrayed by others, he no longer trusted anyone, drifting aimlessly alone through cities and suburbs, barely surviving, scarcely moving from one spot to another.
In those years before rebirth, he avoided other humans.
Thus, he wasn't very familiar with the many powers that emerged after the apocalypse.
However, he did encounter some other survivors, who mentioned the Corpse Speaker to him.
But, if the person hiding among these zombies was indeed from the Corpse Speaker, then their establishment seemed prematurely early.
An organization that could survive five years into the apocalypse and have such extensive influence was not to be underestimated.
Dapao, seeing Li Yu observing, couldn't help but speak, "Brother Yu, what should we do now? The number of zombies outside the hospital keeps increasing. What do we do?"
After thinking, Li Yu asked, "Where's your sniper rifle?"
Dapao hurriedly fetched it from behind, and Li Yu nodded after seeing it.
He instructed, "Did you bring the silencer? Attach it, and take out those two disguised as zombies.
Dead or a zombie, we'll know when they are shot. If it's a human, their spilled blood will definitely attract the surrounding zombies.
If it's actually a zombie, the others nearby won't care."
Everyone felt Li Yu's plan made sense.
Dapao immediately attached the silencer to the muzzle, then laid prone by the railing on the rooftop, slightly bending his body.
With night vision goggles on, he began to aim.
At the hospital entrance, the two cloaked in jackets soaked with zombie blood slowly came together.
"Listening to the gunfire inside all day today, how many people do you think are in there?"
"I don't know, but no matter how many there are, can they outnumber the zombies?"
After briefly conversing, they split up.
...
Li Yu watched quietly with his telescope.
Dapao shifted slightly, then fired at one of them.
Puff!
There was some noise, but it was soft.
Through his telescope, Li Yu clearly saw the "zombie" he had been observing got its head pierced by the bullet.
Red blood sprayed onto the surrounding zombies, who sniffed it and immediately went into a frenzy.
They quickly circled the corpse, voraciously consuming it.
Dapao didn't stop; after one successful shot, he aimed at another "zombie".
The man cloaked in a jacket smeared with zombie blood, startled by the commotion around him, turned to look and was shocked.
"How, how could this happen."
Before he could react, a bullet struck his head.
Puff!
Dapao's bullet hit its mark again.
A headshot was undoubtedly fatal.
But the surrounding zombies swarming toward him once again proved that this "zombie" was not an actual zombie, but a human.
On Li Yu's end, everyone witnessed this scene.
They immediately realized the truth.
"It seems like someone is targeting us." Li Yu said icily.
Everyone felt uneasy, the sensation of being watched was unpleasant, especially when the enemy was hidden in the shadows.
Across from the hospital, in a high-rise building, four or five people coldly observed the scene.
Each of these individuals looked filthy, their clothing emitting a foul stench, but upon closer inspection, one could see their clothes were all covered in dried, scabbed zombie blood.
"It looks like these people aren't simple; they saw right through us," said a man wearing a hood.
"What do we do now?" asked a short young man beside him.
"What else can we do? Since they dare kill our people, we can't let them get away. Let's go draw more zombies here," the hooded leader declared.
The short youth hesitated, saying, "But, but Boss Ma, the task he assigned us isn't completed yet."
The leader with the hood retorted, "Boss wants results. I saw them during the day; they had seven or eight cars, including a Unimog. Now that's a good item."
