Chapter 503: Base Expansion in Progress (Please Subscribe)_3
He gently patted the head of a young wolf-dog named Tie Zhu, who obediently rubbed against Li Yu's palm. His fur was sleek, shiny, and showed he was well-fed.
These three young wolf-dogs were raised by Li Yu personally and were now closest to him. Aside from Li Yu, only Li Yuan and Yutong could touch them. Anyone else attempting to could likely be bitten.
In the past six months, these three wolf-dogs often accompanied Li Yu for runs in the hills around the base, which left them lean and muscular, giving them a powerful appearance.
Typically, these three young wolf-dogs stayed within the Inner City of the base. Oddly enough, under Li Yu's training, under normal circumstances, they would not howl easily.
However, whenever it was about to rain or when a large number of Zombies were approaching, these three wolf-dogs would rush to Li Yu's side, howling nonstop.
By nature, wolf-dogs' sense of smell is a thousand times stronger than that of humans. They can detect things invisible to humans.
These three could accurately detect the presence of a large number of Zombies from ten kilometers away.
This, Li Yu discovered, was a special trait after several occurrences.
That's also why Li Yu grew even fonder of them.
Sometimes, wolf-dogs are more reliable and more loyal than humans. In critical times, these three young wolf-dogs might even save Li Yu's life.
They were also extremely intelligent. Sometimes when Li Yu talked to them, they would obey his commands.
Initially, it was just fetching thrown objects.
Later on, Li Yu would even strap ammo packs on their backs. Once outside the base, Li Yu conducted an experiment by letting the young wolf-dog attract a Zombie's attention before killing the Zombie from behind, and the cooperation from the young wolf-dog was excellent.
Their intelligence was almost equivalent to that of an 8-year-old child.
Understanding Li Yu's words, this scene appeared magical to everyone in the base.
These three wolf-dogs certainly brought honor to Li Yu.
....
He Chao and his team acted quickly because there was a Gongjiang River less than 10 kilometers away from the Big Camphor Tree Base, where there was a quarry on the riverside used for sand extraction prior to the apocalypse.
They were now getting sand from there.
As for the stones, it was even simpler. There was a quarry less than a kilometer away from the Big Camphor Tree Base that had been in operation for over a decade, essentially hollowing out half a mountain.
In the past, the sound of explosives blasting the mountain could often be heard.
"He Chao, you guys are quite fast," said Li Yu, standing on the wall speaking to He Chao below.
He Chao waved at Li Yu on the wall, shouting, "Some of this is ready-made, but later, we'll probably need to dig the sand from the riverside ourselves."
Li Yu nodded and then walked eastwards, where Old Qin and others were sawing through trees, clearing the land on the eastern side.
The buzzing noise also attracted some Zombies, but were quickly disposed of by the guards protecting the working group.
When doing construction outside the base, one must be wary of Zombies. Fortunately, whether from the Observation Tower or near the walls surrounding the base, some people were always deployed to watch the surroundings.
If only a few Zombies appeared, they'd be dealt with directly; if a large number emerged, everyone would need to temporarily retreat to avoid danger and return to the base.
Seeing that Old Qin and his team had cut down quite a number of trees, Li Yu saw a particularly large sycamore tree, about thirty meters tall, and shouted, "Uncle Qin, let's leave this tree for now, we don't miss just one tree anyway. Also, leave six trees in that row. It'll look nicer if the Outer City also has some trees."
Hearing Li Yu, Old Qin did not object and simply moved with his saw to cut the trees further away.
Inside the Outer City, as long as the trees were not close to the walls, having a few was quite nice.
Not only for aesthetic value but also for shade during the hot summers.
The base expansion plan was proceeding steadily
.....
Unknown to them, from the north, a vast yellow tide was sweeping towards the Southern, covering everything in its path, leaving not a blade of grass alive...
