Chapter 445: Captain Luo's Headquarters' Strength, Food Distribution Plan (Two-in-One)
Li Yu's side was piling up more and more zombie bodies, forming a small hill already.
As more zombies continued to pour in, their speed slowed down due to the accumulation of zombie corpses.
Li Yu's group was still stabbing and killing zombies, and they were all getting tired.
Li Yu checked the time; his group had been holding out for almost fifteen minutes, so he turned to Old Lü beside him and said, "Old Lü, it's your group's turn to take over."
Old Lü nodded, got his team ready, and then went forward with their spears.
Li Yu's team finished their shift; Yutong was in his team and was sweating from exhaustion.
Li Yu was about to speak with Yutong, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw the flashlight beams from Dapao's group approaching in the darkness.
It looked like they had found their way back.
Li Yu, a bit anxious, hurried over to meet Dapao and the others.
Seeing Li Yu approaching, Dapao and his team also quickened their pace toward him.
Soon, they met up, and Li Yu asked, "How did it go? Did you find it? Can we exit through the main gate?"
A smile appeared on Dapao's face as he excitedly said, "Yes, we can. I just tested it, we can go out through the main gate."
Hearing Dapao's response, Li Yu smiled, and Dapao's voice was so loud that even Third Uncle and others behind Li Yu heard it.
Everyone was relieved, as letting zombies trickle in bit by bit,—if they could only exit through this entrance tomorrow, they would have to gradually move the zombie corpses away.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to get out through this entrance tomorrow.
But now it was different; with the main gate, they would have a much easier time. Tomorrow, when the sun comes out, they could exit through the main gate.
Thinking this, everyone sighed in relief.
Old Lü's team heard the news too, but their spears didn't stop, they continued to stab the incoming zombies.
The pile of zombie bodies grew higher, and Li Yu said, "No need to move the zombie corpses; let them pile up. It will also block the speed of other zombies coming in. Everyone conserve your energy.
Let everyone rest a bit; tomorrow when the sun comes out, we'll deal with the zombies from the main gate. Perhaps by tomorrow, when the sun is up, there will be fewer zombies."
With that said by Li Yu, nobody had any objections, as no one wanted to face zombies at night.
Thankfully, they had enough people—forty in total, four per team, ten teams, each taking turns for half an hour so everyone could get enough rest.
Li Yu watched as Old Lü's team was replaced by Yang Tianlong's group, and he scanned the over two-thousand square meters area inside the cave.
Their area still had some light, being lit by several lamps, but the further areas were dark; therefore, Li Yu told Yang Tianlong:
"Tianlong, take your group to the other parts of this cave, check the situation. We rushed in earlier and didn't get a good look around."
Yang Tianlong replied, "Alright, we'll go now."
Then, he took his group and two lamps to check around.
Li Yu said to everyone, "Alright, stop looking, rest early."
Except for the team dealing with the constant influx of zombies at the entrance, everyone began resting.
More and more zombies gathered near this entrance, but due to the piled-up bodies of zombies, the speed of incoming zombies slowed considerably, making it easier for Old Lü's team.
Li Yu saw that most of the people in the base were resting in their own spots, except for a few who were keeping an eye on Black Snake and Captain Luo.
Li Yu glanced at Captain Luo, who had awoken from his earlier sleep, having taken some medicine and rested for a while.
He then walked over; it was time to face things, and seeing Captain Luo, he remembered that there was a girl named Xiaoshi in the base.
Hearing about Xiaoshi's family background—military lineage—Li Yu wondered if these people had any connection with Xiaoshi.
He sat down beside Captain Luo without saying a word, took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and offered them to Captain Luo and his men.
Captain Luo took one, lit it, and after a puff, slowly exhaled, "I'm Luo, captain of this squad.
How should I address you? We owe you thanks for saving us this time."
This thank you was very sincere. Li Yu exhaled the smoke and said, "It's fine. My surname is Li."
Captain Luo looked around at his team members, only two left.
Thinking of the journey here, the mission Ye Lao entrusted him with, to find the food storage and locate Ye Lao's granddaughter.
Now, they had found the storage, but there was still no sign of Ye Lao's granddaughter.
And if it weren't for Li Yu and his team, his own men probably wouldn't have survived.
Sighing about these worries, Captain Luo couldn't utter a word, knowing that his life was saved by others, yet still desiring the reserve food.
But remembering the people waiting for him back at the Southern base, still unresolved due to the food issue, it seemed necessary to bring this up.
No matter what, his team had sacrificed so much, they couldn't return empty-handed.
