Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Bai Meiyue arranged for Xiao Wu to catch two mutated rats from the street. With the apocalypse getting more and more advanced, these rats had become a normal sighting in the base. Now, even the common survivors were used to killing them, and if Bai Meiyue was not incorrect, then she was certain that a few survivors had started eating the flesh of these rats.

This happened in the past as well. When the survivors didn't get any supplies to eat for days, they could only turn their attention to these gigantic rats. As the weakness of these rats was widely known, the survivors started to hunt them down. At first, they were a bit scared, but once the desire for survival and hunger kicked in, they had no choice but to grit their teeth and continue forward.

Of course, Bai Meiyue didn't look down on them for eating these rats; as long as they were willing to stay on the right path and not crumble in the face of starvation to the point that they wished to eat human beings, she was not going to judge them for doing what most would do in the face of trouble.

Xiao Wu didn't have much trouble catching the rats and soon delivered them to Bai Meiyue. Once she had procured the mutated rats, she brought them in front of Bai Qianhan and Bai Jiuque. The sight of the hideous creatures in front of him made the two boys stiffen. They stared at the gigantic rats and hid behind their father, who stared at the two dead rats.

"Is this really necessary?" Bai Zhan asked with a frown on his face.

"Do you want to become their experimental subject?" Bai Meiyue asked with a raise of her brows; when Bai Zhan didn't say anything, Bai Meiyue sighed. She said to him, "Brother Zhan, I wouldn't have brought these rats here if they were not important. Please try to understand; I am not doing this to scare my nephews. I am only doing this to make them strong and that too without the expense of anyone's life."

Bai Zhan pursed his lips and didn't say anything. He looked down at his two sons, who were staring at him with a troubled look on their faces. Seeing their expressions, Bai Zhan sighed and patted them on their heads. He said to the two of them, "Go on. Your aunt is trying to help you —try and touch those rats."

Bai Qian Han and Bai Jiuque stiffened even harder when they heard the words of their father. They could not understand what was going on. Why was their father being so hard on them? First he dragged them to kill zombies and now that they had somehow survived that, he wanted them to touch these rats?

The two of them turned to look at the two rats that were barely alive and stepped back. Even though these rats were close to dying, they were still terrifying. Look at those red eyes that were staring at them. It was as if the rat was hoping to kill them. What if they get close to it and it tries to hurt them?

"Dad, I am scared," said Bai Jiuque as he stared at the rat in front of him. He couldn't believe that the thing wouldn't hurt him if he tried to get close to it.

"Don't worry," said Bai Meiyue as she pointed to the rats that were tied with their mouths shut close. "The ropes are really tightly bound and they are close to dying. They have no strength to fight back and even if they did… don't you have your father and aunt by your side? Do you think that we would let these things hurt you, huh?"

Bai Qian Han and Bai Jiuque turned to look at one another.

Then they turned to look at Bai Meiyue before shaking their heads.

"See? With us next to you, you don't have to worry about anything," Bai Meiyue said with a smile. "Just try to touch these rats with your fingers and that's all that you need to do. I am standing right behind you; if these beasts try to hurt you, then I will kill them right away. You will not be hurt."

With Bai Meiyue's coaxing, the two boys stepped forward. Their eyes were fixated on the rats that were softly roaring at them. Even though they were dying, they didn't seem too keen on dying without a fight. Seeing this, the two boys turned their heads and flicked their heads to their aunt.

"Go on."  Bai Meiyue hid the smile that was almost threatening to break on her lips due to the antics of the two boys.

Bai Qian Han took a deep breath. He then pushed his brother back before saying to him, "I am your older brother; I will go first."

With that he took his gloves that Bai Meiyue had given to him earlier and approached the rat. As he got close, he could smell the scent of rotten meat and something else which made Bai Qian Han gag, but he still held on and approached the gigantic rat. However, as he continued to get close, he could feel his nose sting and so did his eyes.

He closed his eyes and then slowly reached out his hand to touch the snout of the mutated rat. As soon as he touched the thing, he heard Bai Meiyue gasp and even his father yelped, "What…What is this?"

Startled, Bai Qian Han opened his eyes and stepped back. When he saw the rat in front of him, he was so scared that he immediately stumbled. "What…what did I do?"

He turned to look at his aunt, who smiled at him gently. "You didn't do anything. There is no need for you to worry." She then turned to look at Bai Zhan and said to him, "It seems like Bai Qian Han has awakened the power of ageing."
