Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Chapter 461: Lei Qian's ambition (2)

The complex where they lived was in the countryside, and the western hub that Bai Meiyue asked Lei Qian to drive was one of the busiest streets of the city. This was where most of the gaming and the pubs were located. This street was also close to many tourist sights, which meant that there were a lot of hotels and mansions built in that area.

If not for the fact that Yu Miaomiao was chasing after her and her son, Bai Meiyue would have thought twice before staying in an open place like this. However, now that the situation was like this, she couldn't help but think that staying in the open space was better than in the countryside.

At least with the space being open, others would think twice before coming here with the number of zombies roaming on the street. Though it would increase the danger to her family, anything would be better than staying in the base where someone like Yu Miaomiao was waiting to gobble them whole.

Of course, living in the middle of the city was never easy. Bai Meiyue was not stupid enough to take such a thing for granted. Now that the apocalypse had advanced, the zombies would soon start to mutate, and there were also mutated plants and animals.

If it were easy to live in the city, then why would so many people work so hard to get a place in the base? They would even give up half of their supplies just to find a single spot in the base, even if it meant that they had to live under a piece of cloth propped on sticks. The safety of the base was no joke.

However, Bai Meiyue thought that she was quite unfortunate. With her abilities, it would be impossible for her to stay in a base without being used by the higher-ups.

If she was going to fall in the same pit all over again, then why would she bother leaving the current place?

So it was better to go as far as possible from Yu Miaomiao's reach. With her new home being on the opposite side of the city, it would become impossible for Yu Miaomiao to reach her. More importantly, Bai Meiyue knew that with the western hub being on the other side of the city, the number of zombies would simply become too much for the army to deal with.

What was more, the western hub also had a shore that faced the ocean, which meant that there would be countless mutated oceanic creatures.

However, Bai Meiyue knew that the more dangerous a place was, the safer it would be. The reason Yu Miaomiao and the army reached their complex was because Bai Meiyue and the rest of the team made that place way too secure and safe, which allowed the army to take control of the area.

Bai Meiyue would love to see how they would reach the western hub.

When Lei Qian drove out of the base, they ran into a checkpoint. As soon as they arrived at the checkpoint, the soldiers surrounded them and, just as Bai Meiyue expected, they didn't let them go without questioning them for an hour.

By the time they let their vehicle leave with Bai Jixuan and Bai Zhan, three hours had passed.

Lei Qian scoffed. "Just because we refused to join the base, they are making things difficult for us in such a manner."

"You should get used to it," said Bai Meiyue in a calm yet cold voice. "They will continue doing this in the future. Now you understand why I am in a hurry to move out of the base? If we stay there, things will continue to become hard for us."

Bai Meiyue knew these things too well.

Lei Qian pursed his lips when he heard her response. he knew that things were going to become awfully problematic in the future. With Yu Miaomiao determined to make them bow their heads, it wouldn't take long for them to corner them like witches being hunted.

With a sombre expression on his face, he continued to drive to the western hub. The city was built on a flat surface; thus, they didn't face any mountain curves or any other twists. With the terrain being flat, they soon reached the western hub. Of course, on the way, they had to kill many zombies. By the time they stopped their car, the originally black car was painted red.

Bai Meiyue looked at the street that she had cleared and looked at the mansion that was in front of her. There were a few zombies that were scattered inside the garden, with mutated roses that dripped with poison.

"Lei Qian, should we move here with everyone?"

Though the place was no different from a haunted palace, Bai Meiyue still showed a longing expression on her face. The reason was simple. This place was like her dream home. With swings and a garden, along with a pond which could be used to raise fish.

And with the vegetable patch that was now covered with mutated plants, Bai Meiyue was certain that this place could become a beautiful home if she took care of it properly.

Lei Qian originally wanted to refuse because the house was way too close to the ocean. If things went out of control, it would become difficult for them to escape, but when he saw the longing on Bai Meiyue's face, he swallowed his objections back. He looked around the place, and his eyes flashed with a calculating glint.

He had no desire to become a top dog in this apocalyptic world, but what kind of man and father would he be if he couldn't even protect his wife and son? His eyes became firm with each passing second, and he soon became determined to make a base that would become a haven for his family.

If the army refused to protect them, then he would protect his wife and son. He would create a place where his son would grow up without any worries.
