Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

"Who?"

In the dim light of the room, Bai Meiyue suddenly turned to look around the room when she felt a presence around her. Her hand flew up and she covered her belly with it; her eyes sharply looked around, but then a familiar scent fluttered over to her and she calmed down.

"Lei Qian?"

Lai Qian, who was sitting on the couch, stood up, and his lean yet muscular figure walked over to the bed where Bai Meiyue was half lying and half sitting.

He smiled at her gently when Lei Qian saw Bai Meiyue looking at him with her sleepy eyes.

Seeing the man smile at her, Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes. She said to him, "What are you doing here?"

The man must have taken a shower before coming to her room, because she could no longer smell the scent of blood from his clothes anymore.

"I was with my grandfather, but before going to sleep, I wanted to talk with you, but your mom told me that you are asleep. I just wanted to take a look and then leave, but who would have thought that you are such a light sleeper?"

He paused and added, "And I also had a meeting with the rest of the team."

"Meeting?" Bai Meiyue raised her brow and questioned, "What happened? Did something go amiss when I was sleeping?"

"Well, I talked with Wan Guofu, and he seems to know Yu Miaomiao." Lei Qian sat down on the bed and took hold of her hand in his. He rubbed the pad of his thumb on the back of her hand and said to her, "These past few days, I've missed your touch."

Bai Meiyue coughed and sputtered when she heard the words of the man. She pulled her hand away from Lei Qian and avoided his touch. Usually, she dealt with him carelessly, as Bai Meiyue thought that Lei Qian was only playing with her. But after seeing the man rejecting Yu Miaomiao and that too so blatantly, she felt like the man in front of her was different from what she knew.

It only made her a bit uncomfortable. Because now she knew that Lei Qian didn't flirt with just about anyone; he flirted with only her.

"What are you shy, Yueyue?" Lei Qian pushed his body a bit closer to Bai Meiyue as he smiled at her with a glint in his eyes. He reached out and hugged Bai Meiyue before saying to her, "I cannot stay here anymore. According to Wan Guofu, Yu Miaomiao has a weird temper and she will not give up on her blind ambition just because she hit a wall. I need to leave with my family and friends. Will you come with me? As long as you are willing to follow me, I promise that I will take care of you all your entire life. I will even marry you once we have dealt with that bastard Lei Wu. Now that he is in my hands, he is like a fish waiting to be chopped on the fishing board."

Bai Meiyue put her hands on his chest and tried to push the man away from her. She could feel his heart beat wildly underneath the skin of her palms, and her eyes widened slightly just as her cheeks turned red with a little embarrassment. Her own heartbeat skittered a little, but she still went on and said,

"I have my mother and brothers to take care of."

"I am willing to take them along; when did I say that I would leave them behind? I know that the benefits handed to you by Yu Miaomiao sound really good, but the truth is that the woman will definitely trip us up in the future. So, isn't it better to be one's own boss and lead our life according to our will? Don't rely on the base; I will protect you and your family."

"Why are you so determined to leave the base?" Bai Meiyue was a bit confused; she had her own reasons to leave, but why was Lei Qian in a hurry to leave? Why was he determined to leave?

As soon as she finished speaking, Lei Qian's eyes turned bloodshot. He said to her, "Do you remember that there were special orders passed down by the officials to stop people from entering and leaving the cloud city?"

"I do," Bai Meiyue answered, wondering what Lei Qian meant by bringing this matter up all of a sudden.

"Wan Guofu told me the military researchers and the officials knew about the zombie infestation. They knew what was going on, and they also knew what it would lead to, but instead of letting the commoners know, they hid the truth and kept to themselves such that they could collect more supplies for themselves without the commoners fighting for them."

"And the idea of trapping and assassinating the entire city came from Yu Miaomiao and a few more people. They signed the documents. Do you understand what this means, Yueyue? For the mistake that they made, they caused the common people to suffer."

More than one hundred thousand people were trapped in the Cloud city, and yet no one went to rescue them; instead, they lied and told the citizens and the tourists that it was nothing!

Lei Qian was fortunate enough to run into Bai Meiyue, who told him the truth or else his family would have died in that mutated rat-infested land.

Bai Meiyue frowned. She understood the entire situation now that Lei Qian had told her. Yu Miaomiao might not have done anything to him directly but she was the cause of the trouble his family faced while trapped in the Cloud City.

What was more, that woman was willing to kill more than a hundred thousand people for the sake of her own life and the rest; one could imagine how ruthless Yu Miaomiao had to be under that pretty facade!
