Apocalypse: Transmigrated General’s Daughter Uses Space to Survive

Chapter 277: People’s Innovation

This seemed unfair since the meat was obtained from killing the fish in the flood water. However, how many people could keep their lives when they went to hunt was evident.

People lost their lives just to kill one fish. So, the meat that was exchanged with the lives of others could not be considered to have been obtained easily.

The barter of exchanging supplies had started in one building where a mother of two children saw her neighbor coming back with a large piece of meat and asked to exchange some with noodles or rice so that she could cook some soup for her children.

The neighbor had a good impression of her, so he agreed. He gave her a kilo of fish fillet and a small part of the fish head in exchange for two kilos of rice.

That night, the two households had a sumptuous meal they had not had in a long time. They had soup to drink and warm up their bodies, they had rice to fill their stomachs, and there was meat to replenish their energy and build back their lost body mass.

This gave them an idea. If they went to scavenge and found something they didn't need but was useful and someone else needed the same thing and had something they could use, then they could exchange said things and everyone is happy and surviving.

Thus, the trend spread in the building where the two neighbors lived, and soon it had spread to others as they shared their new found wisdom with the people they met when outside scavenging in the rain.

In just a short while, the entire city had gone back to the ancient era where money was not available and people used barter trade to do business. However, this trend has saved many people from starvation and malnutrition.

Now, what people lacked most were vegetables. Even those who could cook some vegetables were those who had managed to stock up more of the dried ones or those lucky enough to come across some abandoned house or pantry in an office building with packets of dried vegetables.

Unfortunately, apart from some tomatoes and mushrooms, there weren't many options when it came to this. Fortunately, this was better than nothing. However, the majority of humans at the moment lacked vegetables, but no one was complaining.

Compared to starving because you had nothing to eat or simply eating plain rice every meal because that was the only thing you had in the house or the only thing you could get when you went out to scavenge, it was heaven having soup and meat.

Because many people had learnt the hard way that saving food and stocking up more could literally save their lives, they didn't dare to waste the opportunity they had.

There was no electricity, so they could not use electric cookers and gas had already been cut a long time ago. The only option for cooking now had become the LPG cylinders. This was another form of business that had sprouted up.

If one wanted a full LPG cylinder, they had to exchange it with ten kilograms of rice. This may seem like a small amount of food, but in this situation where a family of four people could stretch a quarter kilo of rice for a whole day meal, then it is understandable how precious ten kilos is.

With the gas cylinders, those who are able to obtain meat would dry most of it in the oven, which would also preserve it for future use. In this way, they don't have to cook everything right away for fear of spoiling it.

Even though zombies were still running rampant, although not as much as when the land was dry, people still managed to survive. They were learning to adapt to the new world of fighting to live.

Nonetheless, there were still people who ended up dying at home from starvation because they were afraid of going out or because they still expected the government to send soldiers to rescue them. But these are not people that should be pitied. They are not people whom others should risk their lives to save or protect.

That is the dreg of society who would only pull humanity down and probably cause more problems if sheltered by others. They would end up feeling entitled and if what they want is not met, they would not hesitate to betray their benefactors for more benefits.

These are the people that the sect Chu Miao and her family and friends were going to establish should avoid.

While the outside world had started to thrive again, even buried under the suffocating cover of floods and persistent rain, Chu Miao and the others had no idea that a simple discussion when training and killing fish had led to saving more people and buying more time for humanity to survive.

"Do you have any suggestions?" Back in Ye Xuan's apartment, his conversation with Gu Fan continued.

"Even though we have to keep the issue of cultivation a secret, we should try to spread the knowledge of using crystal cores to enhance superpowers to other citizens. Also, we are not going to isolate ourselves even if we build our sect. Especially since some leaders seem to want to take advantage of citizens to amass power.

This trend will probably kill humanity faster as they are practically offered as sacrifice to zombies. We should find a way to interact with others. This way, it will be easier to gather and spread information.

Right now, there is practically no way to communicate because even though there is still a network or satellite available, there is no power to charge phones, so people cannot communicate.

In that case, communication can only be physical. The best way to have face-to-face communication is by arranging meetings, but it will also be challenging.

So, I was suggesting that once the rain stops, we should start collecting crystal cores in bulk. We could also collect other types of meat. This will force people to go to different places to hunt zombies and animals.
