Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Back in City A
"Okay, you do that with your brother. Mom will start making those constant-temperature suits for everyone just in case they are needed without notice." Mother Chu stood up and headed towards the store room.
"And daddy will cook more food to store in the freezer. By the way, I think we need a bigger freezer here; put it in the store room."
Only then did Chu Miao remember the freezer she had packed into her space ring at the last minute, "I brought the biggest freezer from the villa; it should be enough. I'll put it in the store room before leaving. You can connect it to the electricity and backup generator later, Daddy."
"Okay, everyone gets to work. Father, you can rest and let us do what needs to be done." Mother Chu advised. But the butler rejected her.
"Madam, don't worry, I will take care of the general's room and needs. Otherwise, I won't know what to do sitting around doing nothing."
"Alright, uncle. You can do whatever you want."
Everyone knew that even though they treated the butler like family, he still liked to keep a distance between them. That's why no matter how much they convinced him, he refused to sit at the same table and eat with them. Even after all the servants were dismissed.
After laying new bedsheets and blankets on their beds and putting their clothes in the closet, Chu Miao and her brother went out to buy supplies.
Since it was only two days before the apocalypse started, Father Chu and Grandpa Chu decided to call their friends, whom they believed could be trusted and had good character, to warn them.
They advised them to stock up on supplies and move to higher ground.
"Old friend, do you know something the rest of us don't?" One of Grandpa Chu's friends asked.
"You could say that. But this concerns the foundation of our Chu family so I can't divulge the details. But do as I say. Don't save money, it's not more important than life. You have two filial sons and a few grandchildren.
Have them all move out to buy supplies and water. Make sure the food is mostly grains and those with long shelf life such as MREs.
Since you used to be in the military, you can access the MREs more easily. And don't forget about protection and survival gear. You must have some apartments in high-rise buildings and move there with your family."
"Actually, I bought two of my grandchildren's apartments in the same community you bought your granddaughter, but they are in building E."
"That's good, we can be in the same community. My family moved to my granddaughter's apartment today. Which floor are the apartments in? "
"Fifteenth and sixteenth floors."
"That's good, move there immediately and have your children and grandchildren go there. Also, let them buy as much as possible, and if you can get LPGs, a generator, and gasoline,e, it would be better. Moreover, have your sons install anti-theft doors to separate the two floors for your family."
"I won't ask any more questions, my friend, let me go and start preparing. I need to call one of my grandsons who is in another city on a mission. I have to make sure he's back by tomorrow. Thank you. I appreciate the information very much."
"Okay, go ahead. Make sure your family is home by, at the latest, tomorrow evening."
After their conversation, they both hang up at the same time.
This kind of conversation happened with a few other friends of both Grandpa Chu and Father Chu.
Even Mother Chu called a couple of her friends to warn them. They could only provide as much help. It was up to these people to decide whether to heed the warning or ignore it.
Luckily, Grandpa Chu's friends knew he would not joke about something so serious and arranged for their families and subordinates to collect supplies. They also dismissed their servants and urged them to rush home and stock up on food and other supplies.
…
In the headquarters of Ye Corporation, Ye Xuan received a call from Lei Ying.
"Hello."
"Major, the Chu family has moved to the renovated apartment. And the Chu siblings are visiting different supermarkets buying supplies."
"Has Gu Fan come back yet?" Ye Xuan asked an unrelated question.
Gu Fan was the soldier who went to country H to retrieve something.
"He should be back in two days."
"Call him and tell him th… never mind, I'll call him myself. The rest of you should move to the apartments. Have you finished filling the bunker with supplies"
"Only a few rooms remain that were supposed to hold supplies."
"Hurry up then. I'll check the renovation of the apartments tomorrow after work."
"Yes major."
After hanging up on Lei Ying, Ye Xuan called Gu Fan on a secure channel as he was afraid he might compromise his safety. Even though they had retired, when the country needed them they could choose to help.
This time Gu Fan was helping the country retrieve a cultural relic stolen from a museum and smuggled out of the country.
When the phone connected, Ye Xuan went straight to the point.
"Have you completed your mission?"
"Yes, I will be evacuating tomorrow night."
"Okay, make sure you are on the first plane tomorrow night and get back to the country in the morning the next day. Submit your mission the same day and move to the Garden apartment by evening. Do you understand?"
"Yes major." Even though Gu Fan had many questions, as it was not normal for their major to say so much, an order was to be obeyed. He just had to make sure he followed what he was told.
The following day in the evening, Ye Xuan left work and went to the apartment to check it out. Indeed, since they had followed the same renovation as Chu Miao's apartment, it looked like a fortress.
He was especially astonished when he found two toilets in the bathroom and was told that one was a composting toilet. There were even several barrels full of powered sawdust and cat litter in the store room.
The balcony had bulletproof glass installed, and so did the windows and doors. There were also solar panels on the balcony.
After making sure everything was done well, he left and drove back to the villa halfway up the mountain. He needed to pack some of his grandfather's things and move the boxes of gold bars he had accumulated by exchanging his assets to the apartment.
