Chapter 31: RedStar

The group headed towards another town. They found nothing special there, just some people about to be attacked by demonic creatures. Rargnes rushed to help them, taking out his gun and shooting. One shot followed another, detonating in the town, causing the frightened goblins to flee in zigzag patterns, hands covering their heads as if to shield themselves from the sky's wrath.

Rargnes looked at the group coming to thank them, still wary. The two new members were surprised that Ragnes and Sengrar possessed firearms.

"All people need food... we have some... but you must provide us with something in exchange. You know, it's safe with us." Said Rargnes.

They didn't trust the two newcomers much, but some nights with them had turned out okay. They just didn't want them to get killed during the night, so they chose isolated rooms with a door that they locked every night. The two of them shared the same room. They had killed together; it was something that couldn't be taken away from them. Rargnes had done it to save Sengrar, and Sengrar was afraid that Rargnes, who could kill his policeman friend in the middle of the night, may slit his throat. But when you didn't have a choice, you took the friends or family you had.

The next day, he woke up to the sun, enjoying a breeze as he watched the people working for him. He signaled to Sengrar, who gathered the other two of his men, and they chose a few different men - the main criterion was warriors.

They hadn't given any more guns to the other two for a reason. Rargnes and Sengrar together had four pistols, so they kept two each.

The goblin village was a few kilometers away, which they passed by car. They saw some sort of primitive village on a tide.

"Who has never been here before?" the astonished man said. I don't understand. It was a normal area before, but they are changing this world!"

Were they changing this world? What did their presence change in the world? That meant they had to exterminate them quickly. If the progression of change was linked to the number of goblins passing through and humans getting lost to be enslaved on the other side, it would take little time to eventually transform the world.

So it would be much harder for them.

He had never faced the jungle or complicated areas like this one before. The muddy water of this tide did not inspire any desire in him; quite the contrary. He looked at the tide and advanced, putting on boots that went up to his knees. Then, together, they crossed, sometimes putting their faces in the mud. It was disgusting. The mud stuck to his face, under his clothes; he felt much weaker.

Sengrar used a water spell to try to clean up a bit, but the water just splashed at him, entering his eyes.

They waited on a little hill, observing the goblin village from above. They had circumvented it, where there were guards armed with spears.

"You're not shooting them?"

"We're not as good shooters," Sengrar replied.

"Well then, let me do it."

"Nope." They took the lead, and Sengrar used a spell. They didn't want to attract the humans behind them.

Or if there was a goblin mage.

They killed the goblins with a few spells and some well-placed bullets when they could. Pure energy surged within him repeatedly, giving Rargnes' face a blissful expression.

"Hehehe," he thought. His strength was such that he wanted to test it. He punched the ground, leaving a solid mark.

If he aimed well, he could probably kill a human with a single blow. You could always kill a human with a bad shot or something, but with just one punch, he could do some serious damage.

They looked at each other and killed them.

On their way back, they saw a goblin chased by two humans. They were much stronger than him and had armor. Rargnes gestured, and he and Sengrar positioned themselves on either side.

Sengrar had no more magic, so he took out his pistol. Two shots of fire, followed by four others, fell on each side. The bullets that hit the armor did almost no damage. They pierced the armor but lost much power, leaving the skin barely scratched. However, those that hit the faces made them cry out in pain, and with a few more bullets, they killed both of them.

"Sengrar, Rargnes?" said RedStar. "Oh, I'm so glad to find you guys!"

"Not as much as me!" said Sengrar. "You didn't tell us we would be teleported!" he growled. "Huh? Are you trying to hide things from us? Did you want to be smarter than a human?"

"No, no, I wouldn't dare," said the goblin, and the curse made him backtrack on his words. "I didn't want to harm you." The curse didn't activate.

"Well, let it go, Sengrar. So, where did the humans from the Middle Ages come from?"

"They come from a village not far; there are many. Despite your firearms, we don't stand a chance. Let's flee now."

"Many? how many?"

"About thirty in arms, among them, he is here." RedStar hurriedly spoke, "He heard that there were still humans resisting here. I didn't expect it to be you. So they must have thought there was someone with powers..."

'They might be right,' thought Ragnes. But when he saw that the goblin was directed toward Sengrar and not toward him, he had a small, satisfied smile.

"Thirty, you say?" asked Sengrar. "Is that true?"

"He can't lie," said Rargnes.

"And who is the 'he' you're speaking about?"

"The noble guarding the king," said RedStar. "We are not his match. He is an incredibly powerful mage, strong enough to kill hundreds alone, and he is accompanied by his trusted ones. He'd kill anyone to acquire superpowers."
