Apocalypse: Modifying Everything, Building an Iron Fortress

Chapter 35

Chapter 35: Grab Some Real Guns on the Way, Then Power Up! And Find an Opportunity to Handle Her Soon

“Besides that, I also gained over 2,000 points …” Jiang Cheng exhaled lightly as he looked away from the rear compartment. He had to admit, this wave of actions had indeed brought him a massive profit. Staring at the more than 2,000 points he had just accumulated, he began to ponder how to make the most out of them.

“Should I upgrade the nail gun further?”

The thought had barely formed before he dismissed it. After all, a nail gun is still just a nail gun, no matter how much it’s upgraded. What he truly desired was a real firearm. The nail gun was merely a transitional weapon for him, so there was no point in wasting more points on it.

“Maybe I can take this opportunity to grab some real guns. The points aren’t going anywhere, and they’ll be useful when the time comes. If I really can’t get my hands on real guns, I can always use the points to upgrade the nail gun later.”

Jiang Cheng glanced at the time and saw that it was just after 1 p.m. He immediately gave Jarvis an order: “Jarvis, locate the nearest police station that’s on the way to the Hilton Hotel.”

After all, he had no intention of trying to force his way through the military checkpoint on the bridge to Donghai City tonight. His plan was simply to reach the Hilton Hotel, which was very close to the bridge, by the evening. He had already decided last night to first scout the situation on the bridge, then find an opportunity to break through the checkpoint and head to Donghai City, which was the closest and currently the safest place.

Since there was still plenty of time, it would be better to grab some real guns on the way and strengthen himself further. The first choice for acquiring firearms and ammunition was naturally the police station—after all, it’s an official department with an armory.

Shangbin City was large, with police stations set up in each district, and as far as he knew, there were at least twenty districts in the city.

This meant there were at least twenty police stations!

“Sir, I have located two police stations that meet your requirements: the second precinct in Huarong District, which is 10 kilometers away, and the first precinct in Haibin District, which is 27 kilometers away,” Jarvis’s voice rang out, having filtered through the twenty-plus police stations and pinpointed the ones that matched the criteria.

A moment later, Jarvis continued: “Sir, according to surveillance footage, the second precinct in Huarong District has already been cleared out.”

“Cleared out?”

Jiang Cheng was slightly surprised. He hadn’t expected that, just one day into the apocalypse, someone had already thought to raid a police station. It seemed there were plenty of bold individuals out there.

“Let’s head to the other one, then!” Jiang Cheng decided, then instructed, “Jarvis, check the situation around the first precinct in Haibin District.”

“Yes, sir!”

Jarvis responded, and two seconds later, his voice came back: “Based on nearby surveillance, there are approximately 200 zombies near the first precinct in Haibin District, including two evolved zombies. Inside the precinct, there are 57 zombies, including one evolved zombie.”

“Three evolved zombies in total, huh?”

Jiang Cheng stroked his chin, not overly concerned. With his current strength and the upgraded armored vehicle, even if the battle turned unfavorable, he could easily escape.

However, caution is always wise, so he added, “Jarvis, send me the footage of these three evolved zombies!”

Within a second, Jarvis had transmitted three video clips to his phone.

Jiang Cheng opened each one and quickly scanned them, noticing that two of the evolved zombies had forms he was already familiar with. One was a zombie with a mutated body, and the other had mutated arms. The last one, however, was noteworthy.

It was an unconventional evolved zombie, with mutations not in its arms, legs, or body, but on its back, where eight tentacle-like appendages had grown, resembling those of an octopus.

A closer look revealed that the tips of these tentacles gleamed sharply, appearing extremely dangerous. Based on Jiang Cheng’s understanding of evolved zombies, he suspected that even a steel plate could be easily pierced by this creature.

“I’ll have to pay special attention to this one.”

Taking note of this particular zombie, Jiang Cheng formulated a plan in his mind.

“Jarvis, re-route us, and make sure the route passes by a gas station.”

Jiang Cheng started the armored vehicle and gave another order.

That’s right—he planned to use the same tactic again!

Having observed that there were no oil tankers near the police station, he needed to create a similar effect himself. Besides, the armored vehicle had just been upgraded, and its fuel tank capacity had increased to 500 liters; it was time to fill it up again.

“Yes, sir. The route has been re-planned.”

Vroom—

As the armored vehicle roared to life, like a beast awakening from slumber with a low growl, Jiang Cheng stepped on the gas and steered towards the road directly ahead at the intersection, following the newly planned route.

“Still not awake, huh?”

As the vehicle sped down the road, Jiang Cheng glanced at Liu Yuqing in the passenger seat, who still hadn’t woken up from being knocked out by the oil tanker explosion. Shaking his head, he handed control of the vehicle over to Jarvis.

He then unbuckled his seatbelt and got up from the driver’s seat, moving over to Liu Yuqing’s side.

With the upgraded armored vehicle, the interior space had increased, creating a passage just wide enough for one person between the driver’s and passenger’s seats. The ceiling was also much higher, allowing even Jiang Cheng, who was 1.8 meters tall, to stand upright and move around comfortably inside.

Reaching Liu Yuqing’s side, Jiang Cheng unbuckled her seatbelt and gently lifted her from the passenger seat.

“Tsk tsk … She’s got quite a figure!”

As he cradled Liu Yuqing in his arms, their bodies naturally made contact. Jiang Cheng looked down at her. Due to the heat, they had both changed into cooler clothes after showering in the supermarket earlier. Liu Yuqing was now wearing a very loose, thin, white, low-cut T-shirt.

At this moment, the loose T-shirt had slipped off one shoulder … Jiang Cheng took in the view for a few seconds before turning away, then carried Liu Yuqing to the back of the vehicle and gently placed her on the bed.

After all, there was still a battle to be fought ahead. While his own physical enhancements and overflowing energy meant he could manage with little rest, Liu Yuqing hadn’t taken any enhancers. If she didn’t get enough rest, she might not only be unable to help but could even become a burden later on.

“I need to find an opportunity to handle this situation soon, or I really won’t be able to stand it.”

After one last glance at Liu Yuqing’s attractive figure, Jiang Cheng turned his attention back to driving, muttering to himself before returning to the driver’s seat and taking control of the vehicle again.

Although Jarvis could drive autonomously, there were many situations where Jarvis couldn’t make decisions on his own.

For example, when passing by supermarkets, vehicles, supplies, or survivors … Jiang Cheng could make decisions based on his judgment, whereas Jarvis could not.
