Chapter 11: The Bloodstained Road
The air was thick with the stench of decay and blood as Leon surveyed the battlefield. The once-thriving city had turned into a wasteland of shattered buildings and rotting corpses. His footsteps echoed through the deserted streets, each step sinking into puddles of crimson that had yet to dry.
The battle against the infected horde had lasted for hours. The night sky bore witness to the massacre, illuminated only by the dim flickering of fire and the pale glow of the moon. The weak had perished, the strong had barely survived, and Leon… he stood alone among the dead, unscathed but forever changed.
He wiped the blood off his sword, its dark steel reflecting the crimson around him. The Black Fang had proven to be a weapon of devastation, slicing through flesh and bone like paper. But Leon wasn't just satisfied with surviving—he needed to grow stronger.
"Power is the only truth in this world," he muttered to himself.
His golden eyes glowed faintly as he felt something… a pull deep within his soul. The corpses around him radiated remnants of life energy—something he could take. He knelt down, placing his hand on a fallen mutant, and activated Devour.
A surge of raw power rushed through his veins. The sensation was intoxicating, his muscles strengthening, his senses sharpening. Every cell in his body screamed in pleasure, demanding more. This was evolution. This was ascension.
But as the energy settled within him, a voice called out behind him.
"So, you're really something else, huh?"
Leon turned sharply, gripping Black Fang tightly. A man stood at the edge of the battlefield, his leather coat torn and bloodied. His silver hair was damp with sweat, and his deep green eyes studied Leon with a mixture of curiosity and wariness.
"And you are?" Leon asked coldly.
The man smirked, stepping forward. "Name's Darius. And I've been watching you, Leon. You're not just another survivor, are you?"
Leon's eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"
Darius chuckled. "To survive. And maybe… to see what you're truly capable of."
