Chapter 28: 28 Apartment

"Really, I can't believe you," Makki Hojou said irritably.

Upon hearing Makki Hojou's agreement, Kyousuke immediately became excited, and the motorcycle beneath him roared to life.

"Slow down, slow down! You're going to crash!" Kyousuke yelled in terror.

"Ha ha ha, get ready to see the speed of Tokyo's fastest rider," Makki Hojou chuckled to himself, clearly enjoying Kyousuke's panicked reaction.

It was a moment of quiet revenge for his cockiness.

Now, Kyousuke understood why, even though the "Onizuka Duo" was under attack, Makki Hojou seemed so calm.

As the leader of a biker gang, it felt like as long as he was on his motorcycle, he could ride across all of Japan in a day.

"You like it? This is my bike, the Crimson Lotus ZⅡ. If I ever retire, I'll pass it on to you, but not now," Makki said with a teasing tone.

"I don't want someone else's used stuff," Kyousuke replied.

"What are you talking about, kid? This is our tradition!"

"We pass on important things to the next generation of trusted members—it's meaningful!" Makki laughed.

"If it's so meaningful, you keep it. I'll manage with my own bike," Kyousuke shot back.

"No way! I'll get you something better, as a gift to celebrate you officially joining as my protege."

Makki chuckled, knowing very well that Kyousuke wasn't thrilled about joining the "Rampaging Angels."

Sure enough, Kyousuke muttered, "I don't think this is something to celebrate."

"Ha ha ha, it's something to celebrate for the Rampaging Angels, because now we have a leader who can take us even further!" Makki grinned widely.

At the foot of Mt. Toyama Park—one of the places in Tokyo where the scariest ghost stories were said to happen—the atmosphere was tense.

Unlike other parks, which were lit up and full of people taking evening strolls, this park was completely dark, and a chilling aura hung in the air.

The Onizuka Duo had been trapped here by members of the "Love Beauty and Master" Kendo Club.

When Kyousuke and Makki arrived, the sun had completely set. After a long day at the Kendo club, Kyousuke had rushed here without rest.

Toyama Park was so eerie that you could film a horror movie there without needing any extra setup.

A few hundred meters near the park, and you'd hardly see a soul.

Makki Hojou twisted the throttle to the max, and the roar of the engine echoed through the quiet night, heard from a long distance.

"Let's go, boss. Let's show those idiots from the Kendo Club what you're made of," Makki said, leading the way into the park.

"Stay here, injured. Kisaki, keep an eye on them. I'll be back soon."

Kyousuke grabbed Makki's injured hand, pulled him back, and tossed him toward Tsuzuki Ryou before striding into the park with purpose.

Just like Higashi High, some sports club from a random school had named themselves the "Love Beauty and Master" Kendo Club.

The moment Kyousuke entered the park, he felt a chill.

The darkness swallowed everything, but a faint light in the distance from the Kendo club's bike headlights guided his way.

Kyousuke stuck out like a sore thumb, wearing his black school uniform while the Kendo members were all dressed in white.

He was immediately spotted.

"Hey, kid! Who are you? What do you want here?"

The Kendo members' bikes were parked around, with their headlights aimed forward.

Now in middle school, Kyousuke stood at over 170 cm and weighed about 65 kg.

His black suit-like uniform fit perfectly, giving him a sharp, clean look.

Though his face was cast in shadow by the headlights, his sharp features left a lasting impression on the thugs.

They all stared at him, annoyed by his cool appearance.

Kyousuke ignored their remarks and slowly drew his bamboo sword from its case.

He carefully folded the case and tucked it into his pocket, then rested the sword on his shoulder.

With a glance forward, the thugs finally caught sight of his face, and what they saw was no longer a kid's, but a young man with a sharp jawline, fierce eyes, and an intense aura.

The headlights stretched his shadow, engulfing the thugs in darkness.

Without a word, Kyousuke charged straight into the crowd, slicing through them with swift, precise cuts.

'Slash, slash...'

The Kendo club members fell to the ground, clutching their arms in pain.

Kyousuke's ruthless attacks caused the rest of the thugs to scatter in panic.

"Don't come near me!" one of them cried.

"I surrender!" another yelled.

Kyousuke ignored them, continuing his onslaught.

Some of the thugs, unable to escape, dropped to their knees, raising their hands in surrender, almost as if offering themselves up for Kyousuke's sword.

Kyousuke didn't quite understand why they would do that, but he obliged.

Soon, those who weren't already running had collapsed.

Kyousuke finally reached the Onizuka Duo, tied up in the center of the park near a statue.

He swung his sword once more, blood spraying on the ground, but his bamboo sword gleamed once again as if the blood had vanished.

He didn't immediately put the sword back into its case, though.

He wasn't sure if it had fully dried, and he didn't want to get the case dirty, so he decided to clean it carefully when he got back.

"Eikichi Onizuka? Ryuuji Takanashi?"

Kyousuke looked down at the beaten duo, whose faces were swollen and covered in blood.

"Ugh, ugh..." The duo groaned.

It wasn't tears—no, their mouths were stuffed with something.

Kyousuke was about to pull out whatever they had in their mouths but stopped when he saw it was a pair of stinky socks.

He grimaced and instead untied the ropes first. The knots were intricate, clearly the work of some very talented knot-makers.

At this point, Makki Hojou had caught up with him.

"Makki, I'll leave the rest to you. I'm heading home." Kyousuke yawned, feeling exhausted after a long night.

The Kendo club members were surprisingly weak, and the action had ended too quickly for his liking.

"Ryou, take the boss home," Makki said, as he began to untie the Onizuka Duo.

After returning to the apartment building, Makki mentioned a ceremony at the Nezu Shrine the following evening, where all members of the Rampaging Angels would gather, including those from the sub-groups.

Kyousuke finally understood what the "Main Headquarters" on his leader's uniform meant—it wasn't just the group from Higashi High, but there were other branches.

"I'll have your bike ready tonight," Makki said with a grin. "It's going to be just as good as the Crimson Lotus ZⅡ!"

Kyousuke couldn't help but feel a twinge of anticipation.

Where would Makki find a bike that could rival the Crimson Lotus?

After getting back to his apartment, Kyousuke took a quick shower.

The apartment was small but functional.

There was a mini open kitchen directly across from the door, complete with a double stove, a vent hood, and a sink.

The kitchen was connected to a small dining table that could fit three people.

He had also placed a cheap fridge he found at a second-hand shop next to the kitchen.

To the left of the entrance was a bedroom, or rather a multi-purpose room, separated by a glass wall from the kitchen to prevent the smell of food from wafting in.

The room was split into a living area, furnished with a second-hand sofa and TV, and a small bedroom with a bed covered in brightly colored, cute-themed beddings—thanks to his mom and some friends.

After his shower, Kyousuke was starving.

Opening the fridge, he found it stocked with beef his mother had sent over.

The thought of his mother's generosity made him smile as he quickly prepared a hearty meal.
