Chapter 30: Training with Ozpin

The first step of Ryder's magical training was learning how to fly. This was technically the second step as the first step was unlocking his magical abilities further which he did successfully. Now it was flight training. That was the first ability he was training with since it's the first one that manifested. While he thought about magic, he was curious what he could do with it. Depending on it's limitations he might replicate some Dragon Ball techniques for fun. His Lightning Beam that he creates from his gauntlets chambered with lightning dust is basically a Kamehameha wave. His Semblance also reminds him of Kaioken a little. He'll think about Dragon Ball at a later date because right now he needs to learn how to wield his magic.

"Now that your magic has been fully awakened. We can start with some of the basics, but first, we need to finish your flight training." Ozpin said.

"What needs to be done?" Ryder asks.

"You had managed to do it again, correct?" Ozpin asks.

"Yes, but i only floated for a few seconds." Ryder said.

"Try it now that your magic is fully awakened." Ozpin instructed.

Ryder nods before he closes his eyes and returns to the feeling he felt when he flew back in the Forever Fall Forest. This time it's more potent and he can feel that it's much stronger than before. Ryder feels himself being lifted off the ground, he opens his eyes and sees he's levitating off the ground by 2 feet. Ozpin remains silent as he watches. Ryder got nervous but calmed himself down. He then attempted to move around but immediately fell back down to his feet. Ryder nearly fell over. Ozpin hums to himself thoughtfully.

"How was that?" Ryder asks.

"It was a good start. But i noticed that when you tried to move around while airborne you lost concentration. Perhaps you do not yet have a solid grasp on your magic's energy." Ozpin theorized.

"But I thought I unlocked it." Ryder questioned.

"Yes, you did. But unlocking something isn't quite the same as mastering it. In this case, you've opened the gate and now you need to take the first step in the right direction in order to go down the proper path." Ozpin explained. "Let us practice some basic abilities to further your grasp on your magic."

Ryder nods.

"What's first?" Ryder asks.

"I'd suggest we do a simple ability. Bringing your magic forth. Once you have that down we can continue to other steps." Ozpin said.

"How do I do that?" Ryder asks.

"As I had instructed before. Let it flow through you and bring it out. But don't force it, once you've gotten a better grasp on conjuring it, it'll be like second nature and must faster." Ozpin instructed.

Ryder closes his eyes and focuses on his magic, mainly the feeling of it. He manages to repeat the process and this time he puts both hands out in front of him. Ozpin watches as an orange magic ball appears between Ryder's hands. Ryder opens his eyes and looks at the ball of magic he had conjured. He moves it around for a few moments before he throws it into the air. Unfortunately, the orb of magic disperses in the air. Ryder frowns at that but he goes back to conjuring another orb of magic, this time he holds onto it for longer before throwing it up into the air again. This time a little more controlled. This time it remained in its orb form before breaking apart again.

Ozpin spots this. This means that Ryder is learning how to maintain magic and might even be getting a better grasp on it. But this quickly is nothing to scoff at. It's good progress for a novice in the magical field. Ryder then lets the magic flow through him, and he levitates again as he was going to attempt something. Before he starts moving, he focuses on his magic and tries to maintain the constant flow. It succeeds as he moves around in the air for a brief moment before falling back down as it's hard to maintain the flow.

"Damn. Thought I had it that time." Ryder said.

"This will take some time. However, I am curious as to what you did." Ozpin said.

"I tried to maintain the magic's flow throughout my body. It seemed ot work but I couldn't maintain the flow." Ryder said.

"Hm. Perhaps meditation would expedite the process." Ozpin suggested.

"How so?" Ryder asks.

"Maintaining the flow of magic requires a good grasp on its very essence. I recommend meditation as a means of concentrating on the magical energy. Once you've gotten a much better grasp of the magic and can maintain a constant flow, we'll proceed to further training." Ozpin explains.

"So, we're done for the day then?" Ryder asks.

"For now, yes. But tomorrow, the real training begins. Take the time you have to meditate and focus on maintaining the flow of your magic." Ozpin instructs.

Ryder nods in acknowledgement. He is then dismissed, and Ryder takes his leave. As he left the Amphitheater, he thought about what Team RWBY is currently doing. He's concerned for his friends and mainly Yang and Ruby. They are his closest friends here on Remnant so of course he's going to worry about them. That's not saying he doesn't care about Blake or Weiss; he does care about them as they're his friends too. Now that he thinks about his friends, he wonders what Kairos is currently doing for his training. Maybe he should pay him and Glynda a quick visit sometime. He walks back to his dorm room and once he gets inside, he looks for and grabs the Dragon Ball he held. He sat on his bed as he looked at the wish orb in his hands. He still doesn't know if he should either return to Earth or stay on Remnant. He wants to help defeat Salem, but he doesn't know if he's ready for that kind of pressure. He's still not sure about his current path.

Being a Huntsmen is huge in this world, but not Earth. Being a Huntsman is equal to being a soldier or some kind of superhero. He's glad he's becoming something else then some helpless kid, but he's not sure what to even do now. He has a clear shot home and the whole point of him becoming a Huntsmen was to both learn about Remnant and hopefully find a way home. Now he's just conflicted. He's tempted to call Taiyang and ask him for advice on the matter but decides against it. He honestly doesn't know what to do right now besides focusing on this Salem character and his magic. He's still wrapping his head around that too. Him being able to use Magic and the existence of a world level threat does not mold well with his anxiety. He's just a mess right now.
