American Comics: The Girl Next Door is Spider-Gwen

Chapter 40: The Lightsaber Appears! A Gift from a Friend!

"Jie?"

Peter sneered. In the past, he might have been scared by this monster, but not anymore.

He used his waist for leverage, tossing Connors, who was grappling with him, toward the approaching Venom.

Bang—!

Venom swung his arm, knocking Connors aside with a swipe, and continued charging at Peter.

The two quickly became entangled in a fierce battle.

But Peter gradually realized that the opponent's strength was even greater than his own, and his speed was astonishing!

"How is this possible?! Strength that rivals the knight—how could it lose to a monster like you!"

Unwilling to give in, Peter slashed Venom's chest with his claws, leaving three marks that quickly healed.

"Heh... aren't you a monster too?"

Venom grabbed Peter's retreating arm, spun him around, and slammed him into the ground with such force that the floor cracked.

After just a few exchanges, Peter was overpowered and pinned to the ground by Venom, who hammered him down.

With Peter distracted, no one was left to deal with Connors.

Though Connors was annoyed by Peter's sudden betrayal, he didn't join the fight. Instead, he chose to tinker with the launch device again.

To him, this was what mattered most.

"It's lively here!"

This time, Jessica finally arrived a little earlier than Gwen. She spun gracefully in mid-air and made a stylish landing, sliding across the ground.

Her soles screeched as they skidded, kicking up a small cloud of dust.

"Oh... my new shoes..."

She hopped lightly twice, inspecting her feet, feeling the soles were a bit worn. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have raced Gwen—I couldn't even brake in time."

"Jessica!"

Peter recognized Jessica's voice.

He immediately extended his green arm, grabbing Venom by the neck as it pressed down on him.

He pried open its gaping mouth, with its barbed tongue stretched out as if to kiss him.

Then he shouted to Jessica.

"Stop Connors!

He wants to turn the entire city into lizards!

You wouldn't want to see that happen!"

"Connors? Turn the entire city into lizards?"

Jessica looked at Connors. "That lizard man is Dr. Connors? Was my brother telling the truth?"

As she spoke, she turned to Peter, who was wrestling with Venom, and asked, "And you—do you know me? What's going on right now?"

There was too much information at once, and Jessica was momentarily confused, unsure if she should trust this yellow-eyed lizard man.

And what was that black thing pinning the lizard man down? It didn't look like anything good either...

"I'm Peter!"

Gritting his teeth, Peter revealed his identity. "Peter Parker, your classmate! Go stop Connors!"

"Peter? Oh, my God..."

Jessica instinctively raised her hand to cover her mouth in shock, even though she was wearing a mask.

Connors' identity was shocking enough, but another lizard man turned out to be her classmate Peter?

"Jessica, stop spacing out and go stop Connors—Peter's probably telling the truth!"

Gwen, who had just arrived, caught on to the situation. She shot webbing onto a spire on the roof and leapt toward Connors!

Whoosh—!

Just as Connors finished assembling the launch device, a gust of wind whistled past his ears.

He turned his head.

And was struck squarely on the head by a whip-like kick!

After landing the blow, Gwen shot out another web and swung herself to change position.

Her agile figure moved like a ballerina, leaping gracefully through the air.

By the time Connors recovered, he couldn't touch Gwen at all. Instead, his body was gradually enveloped in the webbing she shot out.

"Why is everyone trying to stop me?!"

Connors roared angrily, swinging his claws, trying to tear the webbing off his body.

But with the improved adhesive formula from Ye Li, the webbing's stickiness was even stronger. Even with Connors' strength, he couldn't break free quickly.

"Nice work, Gw... Ghost-Spider! Now's your chance—destroy his device!"

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Jessica ran toward the launch device, reaching for the strap on her thigh—

A silver knuckle duster spun around her index finger before she slipped it onto her hand.

Raising her hand, she punched!

Clang—

The launch device dented inward.

"Pretty sturdy."

Jessica shook her wrist and prepared to punch again.

"Jessica, be careful."

Gwen slid down using her webbing and gave a reminder.

"Don't accidentally trigger the device."

She took a small black stick from her waist and handed it to Jessica. "Try this—Li gave it to me. He said, 'Make sure you don't hold it the wrong way.'"

"Make sure I don't hold it the wrong way?"

Hearing the warning, Jessica held the stick horizontally before pressing a switch on it.

Buzz—!

The stick emitted a blue glow, with a plasma beam extending over a meter long, accompanied by a faint buzzing from a magnetic field.

"Could this be...?"

Jessica put the knuckle duster back into her thigh strap and swung the glowing blade at Connors' launch device.

Effortlessly, as if cutting through tofu, the launch device was split in half, emitting sparks and crackling sounds.

"Cool, it really is a lightsaber!"

After her excitement, Jessica curiously asked Gwen, "Huh? By the way, where did Li get something like this?"

Gwen tilted her head. "He said it was a gift from a friend."
