American Comics: Multiverse of Madness

Chapter 490: 490. Reimbursement!!

In the helicopter, Ashley was already trembling with fear.

She stared blankly at the news on the tablet, her entire body shaking uncontrollably. She never expected things to evolve into what they were now. Had all these superhumans gone mad?

This helicopter had been specially arranged by Edgar. It was also his private small helicopter, known for its speed. The helicopter only had three seats: one for the pilot at the front and the other two for Edgar and Ashley.

Unlike Ashley, who had been petrified with fear, Edgar remained calm. He slightly closed his eyes, seemingly pondering the next steps.

"They've already started fighting. It's not just Vought Tower; almost the entire country is in chaos now. It seems that all the superhumans have joined the battle," Ashley reported in a trembling voice, impressed by Edgar's foresight.

Luckily, Edgar had prepared this helicopter in advance and successfully took off before the battle started. Otherwise, if they had stayed at Vought Tower, Ashley couldn't even imagine how tragic her fate would have been.

Six months ago, she had been a small assistant serving tea and water to the train conductor, but now, by some stroke of luck, she had risen to this position. This was her first taste of being in a higher social circle, though it was also her first time experiencing such a dangerous situation.

"Don't worry. The more chaotic the better. The government and the military won't just sit by and watch. After they've beaten each other to a pulp, those guys can step in and wipe out all the trash," Edgar said calmly, his eyes still closed.

"Trash?" Ashley didn't quite understand what Edgar meant.

"Yes, trash," Edgar smiled slightly. "Homelander or Soldier Boy, they're all just products of the superhuman experiments. The vast majority of superhumans are trash, not worth mentioning."

He changed the subject, continuing, "But the development of this situation isn't all bad. This superhuman war will allow the military and Congress to see their true power. I believe with such destructive potential, they'll consider collaborating with Vought."

At this moment, Ashley was almost numb. She never imagined that Edgar would still be thinking about collaborating with the military under these circumstances.

After all, the world was in complete turmoil. From their vantage point high up in the air, they could see black smoke rising from every street in New York, and the sounds of gunfire and explosions filled the air.

Who knows how many innocent people would die in this war? Ashley stared at Edgar, who seemed like a merciless demon with no compassion.

Seemingly sensing her thoughts, Edgar tilted his head. "What? Do you think I'm wrong? Please, I didn't start this war. If you're looking for someone to blame, you should go after Soldier Boy and those evil forces."

Evil forces?

The boundary between justice and evil was sometimes incredibly blurred.

When everyone believes their side is the righteous one, who would stop to think about which side is truly evil? Perhaps both sides think they're justified, or maybe everyone is evil.

"Thanks to Soldier Boy, the whole world is seeing the power of superheroes. It's a groundbreaking shift, a new era, and the seeds have been planted. Everyone will be expecting the arrival of superhumans," Edgar said, reclining in his seat with a smile.

"It's unstoppable now. From today onwards, the whole world will begin studying superhumans, trying to crack the secret of Compound V. When that happens, it will be our best era."

"What about Vought?" Ashley couldn't help but ask.

"Vought?" Edgar smiled calmly. "Destroying one Vought is nothing. A new Vought will rise. That's actually a good thing. Vought was always a pharmaceutical company—it should have been destroyed long ago. This rebuilding will make Vought stronger than ever before."

Rebuilding a Vought stronger than before?

Listening to Edgar's calm tone, Ashley's initial fear began to dissipate. Seeing Edgar's confidence, she slowly smiled.

If even the big boss wasn't afraid, then there was no reason for her to be scared.

She even began to entertain thoughts of one day succeeding Edgar as the CEO of Vought—a position she had always dreamed of.

Just then, the helicopter suddenly jolted, and the pilot in the front shouted in alarm.

"Mr. Edgar, look ahead!"

Hearing this, Edgar's expression changed slightly as he grabbed onto his seat, but he leaned forward and peered out of the helicopter's window.

In front of them, hovering in mid-air, was a man engulfed in flames, seemingly waiting for them.

"Lamplighter!?" Edgar instantly recognized the figure.

Originally, they thought that Lamplighter had died along with Stormfront in the Sage Grove Center, but to their surprise, he had survived and was now capable of unleashing such terrifying combat power.

Looking at the figure in light golden armor, with flames erupting from both hands as he hovered in mid-air, Edgar's eyelids began to twitch, for some unknown reason.

"Lamplighter, how is he here?" Clearly, Ashley hadn't reacted yet.

Or rather, Ashley hadn't entered the core of Vought Group's upper management, and there were many things she was not privy to, so she didn't know the whereabouts of Lamplighter.

"Sir, he's one of ours, right?" The pilot asked, his voice filled with unease. He had a bad feeling looking at Lamplighter.

"He..."

Edgar opened his mouth, but for the first time, his calm demeanor began to shake.

There was confusion and disbelief in his eyes, and a sense of unease rose within him, realizing that the situation had spiraled out of control.

Of course, Lamplighter was unaware of what was happening inside the helicopter. As soon as he confirmed that Edgar was indeed aboard, he couldn't help but let out a cold smile.

At that moment, Lamplighter was wearing heat-resistant armor that Alex had prepared for him. With Magneto's ability card, it wasn't difficult for him to manipulate magnetic forces and shape a special metal suit.

After all, Magneto had made his own helmet.

However, metal was still metal, and wearing it was uncomfortable, especially for Lamplighter below—what could be described as unbearable.

But at this moment, being able to confront Edgar personally, Lamplighter was filled with excitement. He didn't care whether Edgar could hear him, and slowly muttered to himself.

"You ruined my life, you ruined my family."

The raging flames exploded from Lamplighter's hands.

"You didn't even get my consent before you forced this curse upon me."

Clenching his teeth, Lamplighter's eyes gleamed with golden light.

"I just wanted my father to be proud of me."

His lips trembled slightly.

"Now..."

Lamplighter unleashed his full power, and both of his hands shot out terrifying flames like a dragon's breath.

"It's time for you to repay the damage to my childhood!"

Facing the incoming inferno, the people inside the helicopter had no time to react. Despair appeared on each of their faces, and even Edgar's face turned pale.

The destructive flames broke through the pressure from the helicopter's propellers and engulfed the entire helicopter, causing it to explode, turning into a firework in the sky.

Looking at the results of his attack, watching the debris of the helicopter fall from the sky, Lamplighter let out a heavy breath.

His mission was complete. Now, it was up to that person.

Unknown Location, Inside the Vought Group Community.

Staring at the scenes on the television screen, which looked like a hellish battlefield, Becca gasped, covering her mouth, unable to believe the images before her.

The once peaceful world was now shrouded in the flames of war, and everyone was in extreme danger.

In less than half an hour, the economic losses across various states had already reached an astonishing amount in the billions, with countless lives lost in the process.

Every second, countless lives were lost in this war.

Becca couldn't imagine how much worse things would get.

"Is this what you wanted?!"

She turned her head to look at Alex, who remained calm as ever, and she found it hard to breathe.

"Look at those people! They're innocent! You wanted to destroy Vought, and now you've succeeded, but did you ever think about how many people will die because of what you've done?!"

"But it's worth it, isn't it?" Alex said, picking up a cup and taking a sip.

"You're a devil!"

Becca pulled a small handgun from behind her, aiming it at Alex's head with trembling hands.

Noticing her movement, Alex didn't care. They both knew that, in front of Alex, this gun was no different than a toy.

"Do you know, Becca, I've met many people who are unreasonable. I understand your thoughts, but you should realize that once war begins, it cannot be stopped. I'm just trying to give the world a lesson," Alex said calmly.

"A lesson?" Becca's hand trembled as she held the gun.

"Yes, a lesson for everyone here. You only see the innocent people, but you don't see the innocent universe."

With a soft sigh, Alex raised his head again and gave Becca a faint smile.

"Also, if I were you, I wouldn't continue pointing a gun at someone you can't defeat."

"Instead, I'd take a look at your own child."
