[Peter Parker's POV]
After buying a bottle of water and a set of screwdrivers in full Spider-Man gear, I ended up scaring some folks at the store a little.
However, no one started screaming, running out, and calling the police.
I guess they decided not to provoke me, or maybe the news that some government facility with missile defense plans had been robbed hadn't gone public yet.
'That Chameleon, my first supervillain and he already tried to ruin my reputation. It's literally my third day in the business, and someone has already tried to set me up. But no worries, we'll settle the score. Next time, I'll do more than just slash up his shoulder."
Now, it's time to head to the base and dig into those trophies.
This is a whole Computer Belt!
That's an incredible piece of equipment for a thief, a real treasure.
I think Black Cat would pay a fortune for something like this, especially since it already has about thirty profiles of different people and appearances recorded on it.
The Computer Belt projected something like a hologram or illusion, perfectly blending into glossy white surfaces.
The cleaned piece of the suit was proof of that.
However, that was just a surface-level inspection; the main thing was making sure there were no bugs of any kind on them.
Now that I'd confirmed they were clean, I could safely head home and examine the rest of the stuff, which I did with great pleasure.
The white piece of the suit was a pretty ordinary material in structure, kind of like very thin latex.
The vest fabric was much more interesting!
I wasn't sure how, but when given a small electrical stimulation, the fabric could reflect the color and patterns of any other clothing I pressed against.
The same thing happened when projecting light from holograms, but then the texture suffered—there was simply none.
"Memory Cloth," or something like that, seemed like a fitting name.
This is a really cool piece of tech, and I'll have to figure out how it works and maybe even improve it.
Chameleon worked for Russia in the original canon, if I'm not mistaken? I don't remember too well; Dmitri Smerdyakov wasn't exactly the most interesting small-time villain.
He was remembered as Kraven's brother and... and that's it.
I have vague doubts about why he did this.
As far as I know, there are no plans for a war between the US and Russia in Marvel, so maybe someone was more interested in the act of theft itself rather than the documents.
Then again, who knows? The plans for the latest American air defense or missile defense systems could have gone for a large sum in any country.
However, let us proceed.
The gun was nothing special, more like a toy, but I could load my artificial web fluid into it and turn it into something useful.
The small holographic projector, just a box with a fan blade, wasn't anything impressive compared to the Computer Belt.
It simply projected a 2-D image of my mask and didn't have any extra functions, but it ran on a battery.
It must have had a pretty strong light source inside since it managed to create a decently large image in broad daylight.
I could probably find some use for it eventually. However, it's hard to say since I don't have any long-term projects right now.
It's about time to start one, and I'll work on upgrading my suit.
I can attach white latex strips, like Chameleon's suit, in a web pattern on black fabric like in the movies, and the Computer Belt should work.
I could also rework a hoodie using Memory Cloth once I manage to recreate it or, more realistically if I manage to recreate it.
Putting that plan on hold, I sat down at the computer and started browsing news sites.
Hmm... yeah, some of them were already mentioning that I helped stop Chameleon and prevented a crime against the entire country.
There were shots of the helicopter flying away with me hanging on by my web and of the helicopter coming down.
I don't know who these papers are, but they sure know how to butter you up.
You see, Jonah? This is how you celebrate heroes.
Reddit was flooded with posts about us, the new superheroes. However, they were still ranked way below any news about the Fantastic Four.
There are still two weeks and a half of the Johnny Storm competition. That means the fight with Doom will be in about two weeks or more.
I gotta prepare. By then, Reed should have the cosmic storm machine that'll turn Ben Grimm back into a human.
It's quite a fascinating gadget.
I wonder what I could get from it?
'Wait, hold on. What the hell is this?'
On the site, there was a link to an unknown streaming service, where someone in a simple white spandex suit with black tiger stripes—clearly hand-painted—was broadcasting from their phone.
Do I even need to mention how terrible the quality was to my eyes, which are used to 1080p?
The person was wearing a white motorcycle helmet, also striped, with cat ears on top.
This "someone" was a woman with quite impressive physical attributes.
'Do they sell helmets like that? Huh, I didn't know Durarara had merch.'
The person in the tiger-striped costume was running across rooftops, showing off some impressive parkour skills.
It seemed like an endless stream of coins was being used to make small donations in a strange electronic currency generated by the app.
'What's her username? White_Tiger_of_FEAR. Huh, dramatic. Well, at least it's not Siberian, thank god.'
The woman turned the camera toward her unclear helmet to speak to her audience, and that's when I saw a familiar amulet hanging from her neck—or rather, two jade claws with a tiger's head between them.
'MJ?! This can't be her... but the chest looks about right. And those amulets... I saw them on her not too long ago. What the hell is she doing as a superhero?! This wasn't supposed to happen. I remember...'
I'm far from an expert on Marvel, but this has definitely never happened anywhere.
If there was even one reality where MJ becomes a superhero, fanfic writers would never leave that idea alone... And believe me, I've read a lot of stuff.
'Time to put my underwear on over my tights and go investigate the situation.'
I nervously joked though the situation was anything but funny.
Alright, Dr. Octavius being a woman... that was a pleasant surprise and one less villain in the best-case scenario.
I just saw the milf-teacher as a small gift from the universe.
However, two extra heroes due to Oscorp's spider, and then Mary Jane suddenly gaining powers?
That's crossing the line.
"There's something seriously wrong with this reality, but it's still better than Marvel Zombies."
Changing in my room, I jumped out of the window. I wasn't even slowed down by my phone ringing.
It was Cindy.
For God's sake, I need to buy myself a smartphone with my money for now.
Right now, I have to guess her location with a phone, I could probably track her in no time.
"Hello?"
"Did you see?"
She asked sharply.
"There's someone else out on the streets besides the two of us and the Fantastic Four."
"I'm not sure what you're talking about right now, but I'm flying to look for a superhero streamer."
I wasn't going to tell her my suspicions about MJ just yet.
"When you find her, call me. If I find her first, I'll do the same."
She hung up, and I continued swinging through the city in search of MJ, assuming it really was the redhead.
She probably distanced herself from her home so she wouldn't give away where she lives, but that didn't make it any easier.
'Spider-sense, if you can hear me, please help me find a sexy superheroine with a tiger amulet, who also happens to be Peter Parker's childhood friend in this reality.'
However, it remained deaf to my pleas.
Well, at least there were still a few hours until evening, so I kept going.
"Gwen, Cindy, MJ. And then Jessica is supposed to become a hero at some point too. I mean, I'm not that picky, but can the next superhero be someone I don't want to sleep with? And, unfortunately, for the reasons mentioned above, Miss Octavius doesn't qualify either."
