Chapter 18: Chapter 17 – Tyrant’s Golden Heart
The morning sun filtered through the thin curtains of our inn room in Takarja City. I reached out with a yawn—only to notice Yuki was no longer beside me. The door was ajar, and I could see a familiar golden tail twitching around the corner.
"Reshia?" I called out groggily.
Startled, she turned and bolted.
"Why are you running?" I followed her down the hall.
"Because I want you to eat—meals I made!" she blurted. Her face turned redder than a ripe tomato.
"W-What?"
"B-Breakfast! I meant breakfast!!"
I sighed in relief, rubbing my temples. "That really could've been phrased better…"
A few minutes later, Reshia shyly returned, placing a tray on the table.
"I… I made this for you," she mumbled.
I sat down, took a bite—and was stunned.
"It's… delicious."
She beamed. "R-Really?!"
Her cooking was on another level—even better than mine. After finishing, she twiddled her thumbs.
"Um… M-Master… W-Would you go on a date with me?"
I gave her a soft smile. "Right now? Sure, let's go."
Her face lit up with joy as we stepped outside. My other girls were waiting in front of the inn, ready to continue our journey. We needed to travel from Takarja to Toh Long Town next, supposedly on foot.
I recalled Bahar saying it was a short walk to Farmist from here, but after checking the map… I realized he had grossly underestimated the distance.
Before I could complain, a loud rumble came from the street. A long, sleek metal serpent chugged into the station—a Jade Dragon Train, Indrasia's famous transport.
"Come on, let's hop on," I said, holding Reshia's hand.
She hesitated. "H-How does it even move…?"
"I have no idea."
We sat together in the observation car, while the other girls rode in the next one. Reshia leaned out to admire the passing scenery—towering machines giving way to vast golden fields—when she suddenly tripped.
Our eyes met. Her glowing amber eyes shimmered in the sunlight, her golden scales sparkling.
"…You're really cute," I said before I could stop myself.
She froze, her tail flailing uncontrollably. Instead of running away like usual, she quietly stayed seated on my lap, her head resting against my chest. I gently brushed her hair.
Meanwhile, in the next car...
"How far did you go?" Aisha asked Yuki with a glare.
"Ara~ Not far… just a few kisses," Yuki teased.
"Calm down," Hilda sighed.
Luna, sensing a fight, cast Chaos Bind to freeze them all in place. Peace restored—for now.
---
We arrived at Toh Long Town by afternoon. Reshia excitedly pulled me toward the local wet market, eager to cook lunch for me. She filled her arms with ingredients—vegetables, meats, fruits, everything she could think of. Toh Long Town was smaller than Takarja, but bustling—narrow cobbled streets, colorful banners flapping in the wind, and the scent of fresh herbs from roadside stalls.
But as we passed through an alley, we saw a child being abused by a group of men.
"Stop it!" I shouted.
One of them turned. "You talkin' to me, brat?"
"I'm asking you to stop. I don't want anyone to get hurt."
He sneered and threw a punch—only to strike his own face as Yuki deflected the blow with her dagger's flat.
We rushed to the boy. I healed his wounds with Order Heal. He clung to me and asked to be taken home.
He led us to a rundown church where Sister Ann, a gentle nun, waited worriedly at the gate. Her face brightened when she saw the boy. She bowed deeply in gratitude.
Other children peeked out from behind the cracked wooden door. Their clothes were torn, and their bellies empty.
I clenched my fists. I was just a commoner—I couldn't help with money. But maybe…
"Let's cook here," Reshia said, unloading her groceries.
She ignored the Sister's protests and began cooking right there in the courtyard. The delicious scent lured the children out. My girls stood guard while I helped distribute the food. Their smiles made my heart ache.
Then, a noble arrived.
"This church will be demolished by evening," announced Lord Mehra of the Takarja Guild. "We need space for a new factory—children don't pay taxes."
"There's still a god!" Sister Ann shouted. "He watches over us!"
"Yeah," I muttered, stepping forward. "But the ones ruling now… are evil."
The noble scoffed. "Ridiculous."
"I'll find the real god—someone who'll protect people like her," I said, eyes burning.
"Tch. Guards! Teach this brat a lesson!"
A guard charged, but Reshia jumped in front of me, her Shield of Genbu blocking the blow. "Genbu Shield!" she cried, the shield glowing.
I countered with a forbidden spell. "Forbidden Punch!"
My flaming fist sent the guard flying. The noble turned pale and fled.
---
Dinner came. Reshia cooked again, even after her first batch had been ruined in the earlier scuffle. The children gathered, smiling, eating, laughing.
I sat beside her, watching her tie her golden hair into a ponytail. She looked stunning.
That evening, as golden sunlight bathed the church walls, laughter rang through the courtyard. For a brief moment, it felt like we had saved something precious. But peace never lasted long.
The ground trembled under hooves. Shouts echoed down the street. Lord Mehra had returned—this time with Takarja's Guild Cavalry at his back. They stormed in, destroying everything. Reshia's pot toppled over, spilling stew. My anger erupted.
I conjured a Bone Blade, pointing it at the noble's face.
"Leave," I growled. "Now."
The ground shook with my fury. He hesitated—then fled.
We had no ingredients left, but my girls rushed off, returning with bags full of food. Reshia smiled and cooked once again.
Later, we sat by the balcony, watching the children sleep around the fire.
"Master… I want to stay with you forever," she said, clutching my sleeve. "One day… maybe even have a family with you."
My heart stopped. "Reshia…"
"I-I know it's too soon… b-but… I want to be yours. Always."
"…Does Aisha know?"
"She doesn't. But I love you. Please, Master…"
I couldn't refuse her feelings. I embraced her gently.
"Take my surname, Reshia."
"I will!"
I cast Terra Dome, a private space beneath the stars. Before anything else, I opened her status.

> Reshia Meledric

Magic: Terra, Bone

---
Inside the dome, we laid together. She turned to me, cheeks burning red.
"C-Can I have a kiss?"
I gave her a soft smile, leaned closer, and kissed her under the moonlight.
---
Meanwhile, my other girls noticed Sister Ann acting suspiciously. She snuck into the church and descended into a hidden passage.
Aisha and Yuki followed.
In the underground room, Sister Ann opened an old box—inside was armor. She began equipping it.
"What's going on?" Aisha asked.
"I… I'm a Rank-C Warrior," Ann admitted. "But I couldn't protect anyone. I'm weak."
"Show us your magic," Yuki said.
She cast it. Sister Ann whispered a prayer. A circle of radiant glyphs flared beneath her feet, pulsing with holy light tinged in ancient runes.
"That's… sacred magic," Yuki breathed.
Aisha narrowed her eyes. "Not something a Rank-C should wield…"
"There's a training room here, right?" Yuki asked.
Sister Ann nodded.
"Let's start with the basics," Aisha said.
They trained late into the night.
Meanwhile, Luna scratched at her scales awkwardly, watching from the doorway. A strange loneliness filled her chest. Tomorrow… would be her day.
