Chapter 30 : Ancient Lich vs 3 Anomaly Goblin Berserker (1)
Tonight is a very different night from usual. This is due to the fact that the night before was clear and beautiful with many stars scattered, but now it has suddenly become cloudy. Dark, thick clouds have also appeared suddenly.
The distance between the sea and this location is quite far, especially since this plain is barren and arid, so rain is unlikely. Lightning and thunder are heard loudly, making this night very frightening for children and even adults.
Furthermore, fog has appeared, limiting visibility over long distances. It's very much like the atmosphere on a mountaintop at night. In an area far from the newly built goblin settlement, which was destroyed due to a disaster, a great battle is about to take place.
It's a battle between three Goblin Berserkers possessed by anomalies, and an undead of the Ancient Lich type. If it were a one-on-one individual strength comparison, the Ancient Lich would have a significant advantage in many aspects. However, this is a handicap match of 3 vs. 1, signifying that the Ancient Lich has a fairly high chance of losing.
Even though he knows this, he doesn't care. The Ancient Lich facing the Anomaly Goblin Berserkers right now is a creature summoned by and a subordinate of Alice Vasilissa. Sacrificing oneself or dying in battle is an honorable act, especially if it makes his master's name more renowned.
Yes, the Ancient Lich is currently alone. If he chooses to flee, it would be the same as a cowardly act, and he would be dishonorably punished. It would be tantamount to sullying the name of Alice, who summoned him as a subordinate.
Before becoming an Ancient Lich, Gherrar was just an ordinary human warrior. He once served a kingdom and lived like a regular human. When he was young, Gherrar was born into a poor family and grew up as a hardworking farmer. A diligent farmer, to the point where most of his harvests were almost always taken away.
Taken away not because they were sold, but because they were seized by greedy nobles who cared little for the fate of their subjects. It was a sad and heavy burden, but Gherrar never gave up. He did it all to protect his family, his younger sister, and the people he cared about.
Until the time came when Gherrar was conscripted into the royal military. He believed it would change his and his family's destiny, which had been one of poverty for decades. Even from a young age, Gherrar or his family could only afford to eat once a day, or sometimes not even eat, just drink.
But when he served the kingdom, Gherrar was assigned to the front lines. Whatever happened, Gherrar always survived, even though he was on the very front lines. Meanwhile, nearly all of his comrades on the front lines were killed.
Because he survived, Gherrar received a substantial reward from the kingdom. He was elated at first, but that happiness quickly vanished. It was because the family he cared so much about was no longer in the village.
According to reports, a fire had broken out in the village while Gherrar was on the front lines. Even his beloved younger sister, whom he wanted to protect, had been taken by the wicked nobles. It shattered Gherrar's heart completely.
When the war started again, the noble leading Gherrar's forces happened to be the same noble who had kidnapped his sister. Gherrar decided to defect and killed that noble with his own sword.
However, as he moved to kill the noble, Gherrar also learned that his sister had already died. Gherrar had lost all will and desire to live, so he just surrendered when captured, was taken to court, and executed.
After his death, Gherrar's spirit was trapped in an empty space, and he could only remember his past and rest, as his life had ended. But a miracle happened, and suddenly Gherrar awoke, his body now skeletal.
He also gained strange knowledge. In other words, Gherrar had become an Ancient Lich summoned by the Goddess Alice Vasilissa. When Gherrar woke up, there were already several other Ancient Liches and a beautiful woman named Arina Sirius.
Gherrar immediately understood that the woman named Arina Sirius was his superior, perhaps with a rank equivalent to a high general or prime minister in the kingdom. His first task was quite simple, just to bring many books and items to Alice, who was his mistress.
With his current power, Gherrar could potentially search for the remains of his sister, who had become a skeleton, although it would take years. However, this is impossible because Gherrar is bound by a contract, and if he disobeys his master's orders or betrays his mistress, he will be sent back to an empty space, or more precisely, the realm of death.
A glimmer of hope arises; Gherrar could ask his mistress, Alice Vasilissa, to provide a body for his sister's spirit in the realm of death. However, all of this is nearly impossible. Gherrar must demonstrate that he is a faithful servant with high loyalty.
Yes, this is the perfect time to prove that Gherrar is a loyal subordinate.
Tonight is his proof.
"I just wanted a fair fight, one-on-one. It seems you don't,"
"In that case, we'll go with a handicap, three against one, and you'll surely die now,"
"You're too arrogant for a lowly creature like you!"
Gherrar is quite angry because his opponent in front of him is acting rather arrogantly. Moreover, they are just stumbling blocks and obstacles for Alice. Although he will likely be defeated this time because his power won't be enough to challenge Alice, at least this will be a testament.
Furthermore, Aether, a subordinate of Alice, whose rank might be equivalent to a general, is overseeing Gherrar, although Gherrar cannot sense his presence.
If he is not destined to die and is still needed, Gherrar should not die. That's what Gherrar believes right now.
Gherrar also decides to activate a skill.
[Ultimate Skill: Nightmare Area]
This skill has the effect of turning a very large area into mist, turning a previously clear area into overcast, filled with lightning and thunder as if ready to strike anyone.
Certainly, this will provide some buffs for Gherrar as an Ancient Lich. Gherrar has previously bound the legs of the three Anomaly Goblin Berserkers with his golden chains so they can't move.
In this misty area, there are also occasional mysterious sounds and screams that could frighten ordinary people passing through this area.
"Oh, Nightmare Area... If only I had my original Anomaly body, I could turn the tide with my Origin Skill. Unfortunately, I can't resurrect my original body yet,"
[Ultimate Skill: Ancient Lich Aura]
Instantly, a purple aura envelops Gherrar's body, creating a powerful shockwave that causes the ground around Gherrar to explode into a crater.
"Alright, we'll kill you quickly! You undead scum!"
The chains that tightly bound Drazz's legs are instantly shattered, indicating that Drazz's physical strength is quite high at the moment. Considering this, Gherrar decides to step back a few meters because he wants to avoid close combat.
Before long, the chains binding Acs and Viez also break.
"I AM GHERRAR!! A SERVANT CREATED BY ALICE-SAMA, I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!!"
Drazz, Viez, and Acs soared towards Gherrar at high speed. They all wanted to strike Gherrar until he was destroyed, but something very strange happened. Gherrar didn't move at all; he just kept rambling loudly.
"I DECLARE YOUR DEATH!!!!"
As the three of them were about to deliver a powerful blow to Gherrar, they struck nothing but air, causing a powerful air explosion. Hitting thin air was truly infuriating, and all three of them felt it.
Gherrar, who had been in front of them earlier and kept rambling, slowly started to disappear, indicating that Gherrar, or the Ancient Lich in front of them, was just an illusion. If the previous Gherrar in front of them was an illusion, then where is the real Gherrar?
They became alert instantly, but it was already too late.
"Illusion?"
"It got you,"
[Ultimate Skill: Touch of Nightmare]
[Ultimate Skill: Touch of Ancient Cursed]
From behind Gherrar, he suddenly appeared and grabbed the back of Acs and Viez's necks, and a black aura emerged from Gherrar's body and began to infuse Acs and Viez's bodies.
