Akame Ga Kill - Garou

Chapter 5: Orphans

At the front gate of the capital, Seryu looked worried as she said, "Where are you going? You don't know anyone here, you don't have money or a place to stay."

To which Garou replied, "I'm going to explore the capital. I can handle myself. Besides, you guys are too poor to afford even food."

Remembering the food incident, Seryu's mood switched instantly as she said, "Good luck out there! I hope you find enough food to satisfy your gluttonous self."

Garou didn't look amused by her words. He nodded lightly and said, "If I find myself hungry, I will look for you. Your dog seems big enough to be my lunch."

Seryu put some distance between them as she hugged her Teigu. "Hell no!!!"

Garou smirked, turned around, and walked away. At the same time, he raised his hand and said, "See ya."

"Bye, and don't turn evil, or I will bring you justice," Seryu reminded the retreating Garou.

Seryu turned to face Ogre as she asked, "Sir, will he be alright on his own?"

Ogre looked in the direction of Garou before answering, "You saw his strength and speed; he should be fine alone. If I were you, I'd be more worried about those who cross his path. Besides… while he doesn't seem to be a criminal or a traitor, he still gives me a dangerous vibe… I have no doubt that guy is a true warrior who has bathed in blood."

Seryu was surprised by her mentor's evaluation. She replied, "Although he is very strong, he didn't seem as dangerous as you make him out to be. He seems more like an asshole."

Ogre shook his head as he replied, "You are still too green. That not-so-dangerous asshole could have killed us. And before you say he still has to get past Kuro, he is fast and strong enough to kill us instantly. Considering how close we were to him, I'm afraid he could have wiped us all out before we could even react—including you and Kuro. Luckily, he is not an enemy and doesn't have bad intentions toward us."

Seryu widened her eyes. She hadn't thought about it that deeply. She looked at her mentor with even more admiration as she replied, "Thanks, teacher. I don't know where I would be if not for you."

Ogre gave her a smile as he replied, "You will learn with time. Go back with the rest to the police station. I have a place I need to visit first."

Seryu nodded, then left with the rest as Ogre went on his way.

Garou observed his surroundings carefully as he walked through the city. The more he walked, the more surprised he became. The city looked like something straight out of the Middle Ages, with no technology or electricity. At first, he doubted whether he was dreaming or if someone was messing with him, but considering how detailed the city was, he dismissed those possibilities. That brought him back to his earlier guess about the purple light.

It seemed that the mysterious purple light had somehow teleported him out of City Z—perhaps even out of his world. He wondered if he could get back to his old world or not. He had to return to the lake to investigate the source of the light.

"Come with us. I promise you'll enjoy every bit of it, hehehe."

A creepy voice pulled Garou out of his thoughts. He looked to the side and saw two adults cornering a boy and a girl who looked barely ten years old. Both kids had blonde hair and blue eyes. They wore torn rags—they were obviously poor. The boy was shielding the girl behind him, protecting her from the two tall men in front of them.

"You don't need to be like this. We're just going to show your little sister a nice time," the first man spoke with a lustful smirk.

"That's right. She'll experience otherworldly pleasure, hehehe," the second man laughed sinisterly.

The children were shaking in fear. While the girl was in tears, the boy tried to look as courageous as he could.

Garou didn't like the sight in the slightest—two adults eyeing a little girl lustfully in such a disgusting manner. He noticed that the bystanders watching from the sides were divided into two groups: one that enjoyed the show and another that simply showed pity—and that was it. No one moved to help the children.

Garou felt more disgusted by these people than by the two men themselves. His eyes returned to the smirking bastards, and he began walking toward them. As he got closer, he spoke loudly for everyone to hear, "Two old, disgusting animals hounding two children. And on top of that, a filthy crowd watching as if it's a show. I never thought I'd witness such a vile sight on my first day here."

The two men looked over. The first one spoke, "Your first day in the capital? Hahahahaha… You decided to play hero while looking like a mummy? This is hilarious."

The second man continued, "Do you have any idea what you're messing with? Now, drop to your knees and apologize, and maybe we'll allow you to have a turn."

The crowd that had been enjoying the show earlier started laughing, knowing the fate of those who opposed these two. To them, Garou deserved whatever was coming to him. On the other hand, the rest of the bystanders pitied him, believing his ignorance would lead to his downfall.

Garou suddenly started laughing like a madman, making the two men frown.

The first man snapped, "Bastard, what are you laughing at?"

Garou stopped laughing but gave a bloodthirsty smirk. "Originally, I planned to castrate the two of you while giving these animals around us a piece of my mind. But now, I've changed my mind. I'll shred the two of you to pieces—then I'll make the rest of these bastards wail," he said, pointing toward the crowd.

Garou's smirk grew more sinister by the moment as he walked toward the two men, who, in return, froze in fear. Both of them had a terrible feeling about what was going to happen next. Garou's presence terrified them—even the surrounding people showed fear. He looked downright terrifying.

The next moment, no one realized what had happened—it was hell on the street.

The two men who had been standing earlier wailed in agony as they collapsed in a pool of their own blood, their limbs twisted unnaturally and tied into knots while wounds covered their bodies. Meanwhile, everyone who had laughed earlier was now lying on the ground, writhing in pain from multiple injuries.

Those who hadn't mocked Garou remained untouched, but they were utterly terrified by what they had just witnessed. Moreover, none of them had seen what happened. Garou was still standing in the same spot, while everyone else lay injured in horrific ways—especially the two men who had started the trouble.

Some of the sharper bystanders noticed cracks beneath Garou's feet. These cracks extended around everyone who was injured. A chilling thought crossed their minds—Garou had been fast enough to attack so many people before anyone could even register his movements.

Those who hadn't been injured immediately turned and ran.

Garou then looked at the two children, who were staring at him with terrified eyes.

He said, "Why are you still here? You can leave. Go back home."

The two children didn't ease up at his words. After all, Garou had been frightening enough before, and with his new mummy-like appearance, he wasn't someone children would easily trust.

However, the boy was brave enough to ask, "S-sir… y-you won't hurt… us?"

Garou gestured toward the people groaning in pain and covered in blood. "If I wanted to hurt you, you'd be lying alongside them."

The boy gulped in fear while the girl sobbed quietly. The boy took her hand and was about to leave when he suddenly stopped and looked at Garou again. Gathering all the courage he had, he asked, "D-do you fight against… b-bad people?"

Garou raised a brow at his words. He could see a faint gleam of hope in the boy's eyes, but he still answered plainly, "No."

The boy looked down, disheartened, and didn't dare to speak again.

However, the girl gathered her courage and spoke through her sobs, "S-sir, we… we are… orphans… and we escaped the orphanage b-because of the manager… h-he's an evil man… We… we had to run because of him. P-please…"

"Stop," Garou said coldly, making both children flinch.

Their terror was obvious, but so was their desperation. Garou sighed before asking, "Tell me, what exactly did this manager do?"

The kids looked as if they were given life hearing him, they looked at him with hopeful eyes. The boy said, "H-he steals all the money given to the orphans, makes us work, and if we don't do well, we will be punished and sleep without food."

Garou thought 'typical.'

The girl then added "As of late, he brought old people to the orphanage where they raped the children, and some of them committed suicide My friend was one of them." The child said between sobs

Garou narrowed his eyes upon hearing this, while the boy added "We heard he wanted to sell my sister for a group of old men to toy with her. So we had to escape."

By this point, Garou's eyes had a vengeful gleam.
