After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

Chapter 1390: A Partnership Formed

"My Master wishes to strike a deal with you," she said, saying it loud enough for several people nearby to hear. "Can we talk somewhere more private?"

Rowan and Silvia looked at each other before nodding. Misha came prepared, and their eyebrows rose when they realized she had already rented a private room in one of the rooms there.

For a slave, she really acted like a noble lady. It was quite impressive, and very curious.

That said, they also worried that this could be a trap and that the woman was just really good at acting. Not to mention, they could not ask her to make an oath. After all, she was a slave, and only their direct masters could do so.

That said, they were still very careful. Rowan also activated the Voice blocker, just in case. Even if she was being sincere, other people could still be listening in.

"I found out that Hesso quite dislikes people from Valov, but the Lord himself is wary and even a bit pandering to them," she began, telling them what she knew.

"I see. Well, it's natural for territories to feel rivalries."

"He told you all that himself?" Rowan asked Misha, not hiding his suspicions. Misha was not offended and answered simply.

"Yes."

"He must trust you so much, then."

Misha shook her head. "I had to use my ability to compel him to say more," she said. "Though to be fair, I don't think he's particularly tight-lipped about the issue."

If he were, she didn't think her compelling would be able to do much. He was still more powerful than her in the end.

At the mention of her ability, the couple leaned forward, very interested.

"How does your ability work?" Rowan asked. He wanted to know and he wanted to test how much they could trust her.

"I will consume mana and a scent would escape out of my pores," she explained. Rowan understood a bit because he had been studying it with Silvia. "This scent would make the person more… impressionable."

"That's a very useful skill in your position."

"It saved me countless of times," she admitted.

There was silence then, more like a standstill. Rowan and Silvia naturally wanted to ask for help and give her more details, but what if it was a trap?

However, slaves didn't have to hide their feelings when they were being ordered as slaves. So far, Silvia hadn't felt anything dangerous with the other woman, nor did she feel that she was being insincere.

However, if they kept going in codes, there was no point because if Misha was a traitor, then she'd still know of the plan anyway.

In the end, Silvia decided to trust her gut. Taking a deep breath, she jumped in and went straight to the point. "Is there a way for the slaves to help us?"

Rowan's eyebrows rose as he looked at her, but he pulled them away. This was Silvia's scope already. Not only did he trust her judgement, but he believed he simply had to guard her no matter what the outcome was.

Misha also stared at Silvia for a while, eyes softening before she shook her head. "Not possible, unfortunately. Slaves, by default, cannot harm their masters. Similarly, I cannot do much to help either.

"But your ability…

"It's making them happy—lets them live out their fantasies of me. There is nothing harmful about that."

And thus, the loophole.

Another was that she was never ordered to keep quiet about anything she heard, anyway the nobles were arrogant, believing they couldn't get touched no matter what was revealed about them.

In fact, in Xeno, having so many 'safeguards' and protective oaths was a sign of weakness.

After all, if one wasn't confident in one's strength, why else would they be 'scared'?

This useless pride was something Alterra really took advantage of.

Silvia and Rowan looked at each other, silently communicating about the possible next step. After a few moments, Silvia put her attention back on the blonde. "But you can feed us information, yes?"

Misha nodded. Slaves, by default, simply could not harm their owners physically.

Unless otherwise ordered, especially if the information itself wasn't directly dangerous in and of itself, slaves could actually feed people information. This was how Gaudi, Sarah, and others had managed to say what they could back then.

"We unfortunately can't feed you any more information than we already have, however. I hope you understand."

"Of course."

However, Silvia couldn't help but look at the blonde and her features. It was a bit unfair that they weren't revealing any reciprocal information, but she couldn't help but be curious.

So, before they adjourned the meeting, Silvia actually did ask. "I… if you don't mind me asking, what is your full name?"

The blonde blinked before answering, not thinking too much of it. "My full name? It is Misha Berti from New Warron City, Eden."

"Berti?" Silvia voiced out, though she had suspected it, so she wasn't too surprised. "Are you, by any chance, related to Micheal Berti?"

"Do you know my brother?!" the blonde gasped, shooting up from her seat. She pushed herself to calm down, but it was definitely difficult.

At this, the tension immediately softened. A sibling of a friend was much more trustworthy than a complete stranger. Even Rowan's cynicism softened considerably.

"He's Lord in his own territory," Silvia said after a while. "He's living well, and he has been sending out missions to find you." This was why she found her name familiar. It was a relatively unique name, and not to mention, she always saw it in the 'list'.

This List was a collection of relatives and friends Alterrans and the others were looking for. In order to hasten the location of relatives, the Terrans from the associated territories would send the names of people they were looking for to Alterra and vice versa, for a small cost. This would be placed in the newspaper, which would then be reproduced by the leading party to show the public.

The number of relatives that found each other under such a system was more than a handful.

Misha sat back down, covering her face with her soft hands. Her voice was shaky, and her cool seductress temperament completely dissipated.

Her shoulders shook, feeling so many emotions well inside of her. "I'm so happy…"

She lifted her head after a while, looking at the two. After a breath, Misha grabbed Silvia's hand.

"I will do everything in my power to help you," she said. "Tell me everything I need to do."
