After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

Chapter 1385: Meeting Someone New

The very next day, Silvia received a letter from the Post Office. Rowan was a known name there, so it was always Silvia's name used during the exchanges.

Post Offices generally did not have private alerts to the receiver. They had to go to the Post Office and ask if they had received anything.

In order not to waste the time of all the spies they sent out, Alterra implemented a standard time of sending and receiving of letters. Anyway, they seemed to still be in the same time zone somehow, despite being a thousand kilometers apart.

Rather, even if it was farther away in Bleulle, the timezone was still the same, so they knew that at least, assuming this place was a globe, it was quite a big bigger a planet than Terran was.

Anyway, Alterra would always send out letters at specific times of the day, except during urgent events like wars, in which case they would order someone to camp in the Post Office at all times.

The letters were also written in their code, of course, and they opened them at the safety of their room in the inn.

They also used the Sound Blocker, just in case. They wouldn't put it past Voumi to have literal ears on the walls.

According to one of the infos they got from pubs, in a drunken stupor of some groups, they ranted about how Voumi would get slaves hiding in the walls of some inns, which was much thicker than they appeared.

Like most system buildings, the Inn was also highly customizable so this was possible.

Although it was doubtful a slave was assigned to spy on them, it wouldn't hurt to be safe.

Anyway, the two of them read the letter together, blinking when they saw its contents.

[Find a way to pit Voumi and Valov against each other. Find or exacerbate an issue big enough so Alterra could gather more strength.]

[Of course, your safety will always be top priority. If the odds are against you, in any circumstance, do not continue the mission.]

Their eyes softened as they read, though the couple was quick to start discussing it professionally.

"Hmn… this makes sense," Silvia said. "The Elders always did prefer to avoid any direct confrontations."

Alterra's goal was always to have no casualties during wars—no matter how big they got.

They had managed to do this during the standard Beast Mobs.

Alterra had achieved the amazing feat of having no deaths because the basics like hunger and thirst had always been a non-issue for them, so the citizens could focus on more productive things like getting stronger.

In fact, except for a few prisoners of war who weren't particularly sharp and excluding the unfortunate deaths they had during the Town upgrade and wars, it had been months since Altherra saw the last death because of a monster mob.

Now, the goal was that there would be no deaths because of fighting—whether it was against humans or not.

This was a massive vision, especially for the aborigines, but it made their hearts pump in excitement.

They, too, hoped to see it happen one day.

The journey would be far from easy. Alterra was so desirable that it was difficult to have time to breathe and grow without interruption.

It made their mission all the heavier, because that same vision was anchored into it.

They said goodbye to grandma next door after delivering her food again. However, she did not let them go so easily.

Grandma held Silvia's hand. "You shouldn't risk yourself like this…" she said. "You're so beautiful… even with that realistic facial hair."

Silvia giggled, touched by her concern. She had stayed with grandma in her room last night, and they spent a lot of time talking. Anyway, with their level, they only needed a few hours of rest.

She learned a lot about Rowan's childhood, how he was still reticent but sweet, and how he had always been silently fighting for his own justice.

"Hmn, sounds like the Rowan I fell in love with," she had said, and then the old woman would cry a bit.

"I'm just so happy he found someone."

"He deserves all the love," Silvia remembered saying as she embraced the old woman. "I'm happy to be the one he wanted."

Back to the present, the two seemed to have grown so close that it was Rowan who became the outsider.

"Don't worry grandma," Silvia told the woman, reassuring her for ten minutes or so.

"We will be very careful," she said. "The territory specifically told us not to do anything that has a high chance of putting us in danger."

What they're doing was akin to saving hundreds, if not thousands, of lives. Seeing them stubborn, the old woman had no choice but to let them go, just hoping for the best.

Finally free from the old woman, the two of them went back down to continue with their investigations.

They headed straight to a restaurant called Noble's Hub, which was where they got most information before.

It was also located near the communities of the nobles. It was really pricey for trashy food, but they had a lot of Alterra items in their spaces. They just had to sell them as novelties, and they would receive a lot of money.

Of course, to keep low-key, they would sell them in small amounts in different areas, claiming they bought it from travelling merchants. They'd set up a simple stall where nobles pass by.

For example, "Silvio" would use her much-practiced sales talks skills to talk to noble women about Wittbeauty products. She had a demo product (her own use) and the women would love it.

They would ask their husbands for money and, if they were favored enough and if the nobleman was rich and prideful enough, they'd give them enough to buy a few things.

Silvio could easily sell an item for 50 times its cost.

One time though, they got an unusual customer.

"OH… this is so nice…" A soft-looking hand reached over to get a lip balm. She held the sample, and Silvio was surprised to see she knew how to open it.

"Master… can you buy this for me?" She asked the person next to her. "It will help me moisten my lips very much."

It was followed by a low chuckle. "Oh Misha, I can give it to you—but only if you promise to kiss me."

Silvia and Rowan raised their heads to see who it was. Their eyebrows rose.

It was a beautiful blonde that kind of reminded them of someone else.
