After Resigning, My Ex-Boss Wants to Possess Me

Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Lying

Lu Nianxin pushed out and looked toward Pei Heyan, her words carrying a playful tone, "Brother He Yan, how many babies do you think we should have?"

She grabbed Pei Heyan's large hand and placed it on her flat abdomen.

The man's large hand covered her abdomen exactly, which made Wen Tang's brows knit, knowing that usually, those hands were placed on her body.

"Miss Lu, I'm sorry, but I'm a bit tired and would like to rest for a bit," Wen Tang pretended not to care.

Pei Heyan stood up, "Then rest well."

He left the hospital room, and Lu Nianxin followed closely behind, a cunning smile briefly appearing at the corners of her mouth as she paced towards the elevator in step with Pei Heyan.

She noticed Cao Yinqiong standing at the door of the clinic speaking to someone dressed like an orderly—could it be the Aunt Zhang she mentioned?

Pei Heyan entered the elevator.

Lu Nianxin drew back her gaze and followed him in.

When they reached the first floor, Lu Nianxin pulled back her arm and said, "Brother He Yan, I suddenly remembered I left something in the hospital room. I need to go up and retrieve it, then meet you in the parking lot afterward."

As her words fell, she turned back to the elevator.

Coming across Aunt Zhang heading towards the hospital room, she blocked Aunt Zhang's path.

"Are you the orderly from that hospital room?" She gestured with her eyes at Aunt Zhang.

Aunt Zhang smiled and looked at the woman wearing sunglasses, "Yes. May I ask who you are?"

Lu Nianxin chuckled lightly, her gaze falling on Aunt Zhang's hands, and pulled her towards the emergency exit.

Asking, "What are you holding in your hand?"

Aunt Zhang looked, "This is what Doctor Cao just gave me, saying it's scar removal ointment, specifically to be applied on Miss Wen's leg to remove scars."

Scar removal ointment?

An idea suddenly struck Lu Nianxin, and she took the scar removal ointment from Aunt Zhang's hands.

Suspicion flickered in Aunt Zhang's eyes.

Lu Nianxin inspected the ointment and handed it back to Aunt Zhang, then pulled a stack of money from her bag and handed it to her, "Here, take this."

Aunt Zhang looked puzzled.

"Not enough?" Lu Nianxin pulled out a few more banknotes from her bag, "This is the last few notes I have on me."

"That's not it," Aunt Zhang replied, confused, "What do you mean?"

Isn't this woman a friend of Miss Wen?

Lu Nianxin crooked her finger, beckoning Aunt Zhang to lean closer.

She whispered words that only the two of them could hear.

The words fell distinctly into Aunt Zhang's ears, causing her face to pale with fright. She hurriedly stuffed the banknotes into Lu Nianxin's bag, her voice flustered as she said, "I won't take part in harmful deeds."

Lu Nianxin's expression darkened, "Don't refuse the toast only to drink the forfeit."

"She, Wen Tang, is merely a secretary, and I, with a mere wave of my hand, can make her lose her job and just as effortlessly crush you, making you completely disappear from Qing City."

Aunt Zhang was considerably frightened, her face turning deathly pale.

Lu Nianxin stuffed the money back into Aunt Zhang's pocket, "Then it's happily decided."

She patted Aunt Zhang on the shoulder, saying word by word, "Take good care of Secretary Wen for me."

Lu Nianxin walked away, leaving Aunt Zhang sweating profusely.

Lifting her arm to wipe the sweat beads on her forehead, she turned the jar of ointment over in her pocket, took a deep breath to calm her emotions, and walked out from the hidden area.

When Wen Tang saw Aunt Zhang return, she mistakenly thought it was mealtime and sat up from her bed.

The scene that she saw, however, was Aunt Zhang empty-handed.

"Aunt Zhang?" Wen Tang called out.

Aunt Zhang came to her senses and visibly shuddered, clearly thinking about something else.

She explained with a smile, "I just bumped into Doctor Cao and chatted with him for a moment. Look at me, I almost forgot what I was supposed to do."

"Just a moment, I'm going downstairs to buy some food," said Aunt Zhang, who was feeling hot and casually hung her coat on the sofa.

A small medicine bottle rolled out of the pocket.

Wen Tang wanted to remind her, but realized Aunt Zhang had already left the room.

Having been around Pei Heyan for a long time, she had unwittingly developed a bit of compulsiveness, too.

No matter how she looked at it, the sight of the medicine bottle lying abandoned on the ground was unbearably distressful, so she threw off the covers and got out of bed.

She picked up the medicine bottle from the ground and found it to be the scar removal ointment.

It must have been from Doctor Cao, but she wasn't certain.

Wen Tang considered for a moment, then set the scar removal ointment on the coffee table and tried not to think about it anymore.

As she returned to her bed and sat down, Aunt Zhang returned with some porridge.

Seeing Wen Tang out of bed, she hurriedly put down the porridge and scolded, "You're supposed to be resting. Why did you get up?"

She tucked Wen Tang back into bed as she spoke,

Then opened the lid and poured out the porridge.

As Wen Tang ate the fragrant rice porridge, she asked, "By the way, did Doctor Cao prescribe any medicine for my leg?"

As soon as she uttered these words, Aunt Zhang's gaze shifted away from Wen Tang, betraying a hint of guilt,

Which Wen Tang caught at once.

"No, Doctor Cao just instructed on how to care for the wound on your leg," Aunt Zhang seized the opportunity to explain: "Eat slowly, I'm going downstairs to buy some tissues and other items."

Wen Tang nodded.

She looked up at the ointment, wondering if she was overthinking things.

Wen Tang began to doubt whether she was being too suspicious.

Voices from a nurse at the door could be heard.

"Doctor Cao, didn't you just tell me to give the scar removal ointment to Miss Wen? I went to fetch it and it was gone."

Cao Yinqiong's voice came through.

"I forgot to mention earlier, I bumped into Aunt Zhang and passed the scar removal ointment to her directly."

Wen Tang's movements paused, and the words dropped unescapably into her ears.

Apparently, it was Aunt Zhang who was deceiving her, not her being overly suspicious.

She looked again at the plain porridge in front of her and set down her spoon, choosing not to continue eating.

Aunt Zhang returned, casually shutting the door behind her, her earlier panic seemingly vanished, reverting back to her usual busy and enthusiastic demeanor. Seeing there was still a significant amount of porridge left in the bowl, she asked, "What's the matter, tired of the plain porridge?"

"Then I won't buy plain porridge next time."

Wen Tang pursed her lips, "Doctor Cao came by just now and mentioned the scar removal ointment casually, and I even asked you about it, specifically asking Doctor Cao if there was any prescription. Why did you say there wasn't?"

Aunt Zhang's smile instantly stiffened, and her fingers fidgeted nervously below.

She glanced at the coat she had draped over the sofa.

The scar removal ointment was already placed on the coffee table.

Quickly, she explained, "I was just preoccupied with going downstairs to buy the porridge, worried you might be hungry, and forgot about the scar removal ointment."

Forgot?

Wen Tang's eyes conveyed skepticism.

Her intuition told her it might have been deliberate.

She was just about to press the matter thoroughly, trying to uncover where exactly the problem lay, when her phone screen suddenly lit up.
