After my divorce, I started to have good luck

Chapter 248: Just Want to Play, Don't Want to Commit

When Qin Zhen came over, although he didn't talk much with Wang Xuelin, the atmosphere became less awkward.

Otherwise, Chen Feng and the other two weren't very familiar with Wang Xuelin, and since she was treating them, the meal would definitely not be comfortable.

But with Qin Zhen there, it was different. At least Chen Feng was close buddies with him, so with him around, Chen Feng wouldn't have any mental burden.

Thanks to the active efforts from Chen Feng's side, the meal turned out to be quite lively. Wang Xuelin was cooperative too, chatting and laughing with the other two women. Qin Zhen also gave Chen Feng face, joined in some conversations appropriately without keeping a stern face, especially talked a lot using their hometown dialect with Chen Feng.

The main topic was complaining about how Wang Xuelin had "started something and then abandoned it" back in the day, which hurt him deeply. This reunion was actually not what he genuinely wanted; it was Wang Xuelin who approached him, seduced him, and then muddle-headedly, he fell into her trap, ultimately being forced back into a relationship by her persistence.

Though Chen Feng was speechless inside, he patiently listened to his complaints and then, finally, asked him straightforwardly, "You said Ning Wei wasn't right, and Wang Xuelin wasn't right either, so why are you involved with them? What kind of woman are you really looking for?"

Qin Zhen couldn't speak for a long time. Whether he admits it or not, he indeed has the traits of a jerk; fundamentally, he only wants to play and doesn't want to take responsibility.

Out of friendship, Chen Feng didn't directly expose him, but his point was made very clear.

After the meal, Qin Zhen was the first one to rush to pay the bill, neither Chen Feng nor Wang Xuelin stopped him.

This time they didn't excessively go for expensive dishes. Apart from the relatively pricey sea cucumber and cordyceps soup for each person, the rest weren't very costly, and since no alcohol was ordered, just juices, the total was around three or four thousand at most.

After leaving the restaurant, Chen Feng put his arm around Qin Zhen and brought him in front of Wang Xuelin, saying to him, "You two should talk seriously, calmly and openly. We're all grown-ups here, talk things out and it'll be fine. Well, we'll be going now."

On the way back, Wu Mengting drove the car, Sun Xiaorui sat in the passenger seat, and Chen Feng sat in the back.

Wu Mengting couldn't help but complain, "I think Qin Zhen is such a jerk. Wang Xuelin is so sincere to him, plus they dated for several years before, even though they broke up initially, now that they've gotten back together, shouldn't they cherish it even more? And yet, when Wang Xuelin wants to get engaged, he keeps delaying it. Why did he reunite with her? It's extremely irresponsible behavior."

Having heard and understood the things Qin Zhen said to Chen Feng in their hometown dialect at the dinner table, Wu Mengting's impression of Qin Zhen couldn't help but worsen significantly.

Chen Feng somewhat agreed inwardly but had to defend Qin Zhen verbally since Qin Zhen is his good buddy.

"Well, you can't entirely blame him. Wang Xuelin is too assertive, and Qin Zhen isn't someone who takes things lying down; instead, he's somewhat of a male chauvinist. Their personalities conflict to some extent. So, it's normal for him to have concerns. Forcing an engagement, getting married, could end in tragedy in the future, which wouldn't be good for either of them."

Wu Mengting retorted, "I think he mainly just doesn't want to take responsibility."

Chen Feng reminded, "They should resolve their own issues; the most we can do is discuss behind their backs without getting involved. Don't say this to Wang Xuelin about Qin Zhen."

"I'm not dumb. And besides, I'm not very familiar with her."

"Alright then."

Back home, they had a good night's sleep.

The next morning, Chen Feng received replies from Sister Hua and Hao Xiaolian. The former recommended one company, and the latter recommended two companies for him to choose from.

After expressing his thanks, Chen Feng passed this information to Wu Mengting, asking her to investigate these three companies thoroughly.

It's now the internet era, so checking a company's background is pretty quick, not to mention hiring some consulting firms to dig deep.

Online, a known site can largely reveal a company's share structure, disputes in court, administrative penalties, etc. Of course, for safety, it's certainly better to hire professional consultants to investigate them. For this, Chen Feng even sent her a hundred thousand for activity expenses.

Upon receiving the documents from Chen Feng, despite still somewhat opposing the idea, seeing Chen Feng's insistence, Wu Mengting could only proceed with it. She is currently Chen Feng's personal assistant, so she has to fulfill the assignments given by her boss.

Though she hasn't worked for long, she has been a magazine editor, has some societal experience, and is quite familiar with things online.

Soon, she thoroughly examined the three companies through the known site, then prepared an electronic report for Chen Feng. She also contacted a consulting firm online, paid them a deposit to quickly investigate these three companies and send her the packaged data; she would pay the balance upon satisfaction.

The firm promised results within a week, neither Wu Mengting nor Chen Feng were too concerned about this; they weren't in a hurry to acquire, they could wait.

After lunch, Chen Feng mentioned to the two women that he was going to meet up with classmates and drove out of the villa.

Half an hour later, Chen Feng drove into the Four Seasons Hotel, which is located not far from the East Lake lakeshore, guarded by stone lions and welcoming guests with pine trees. Inside are pavilions and towers, casting shadows like in a garden setting.

Chen Feng booked a courtyard king room on his phone, costing over seven thousand per night, not the most expensive, but still decent.

Getting out of the car, Chen Feng walked a few minutes to reach the place, and there he saw Liu Ying waiting not far from the entrance.

Seeing Chen Feng, Liu Ying was instantly filled with joy and excitement. She jogged over to him and, without saying a word, opened her arms to hug him, her head pressed tightly against his chest.

"I really missed you so much. It's been so long since I finally got to see you. You're so heartless."

Liu Ying's voice carried a touch of choking, appearing both sad and happy, perfectly embodying the emotions and actions a couple should have when reuniting after a long time apart. She performed quite well.

As a reserved man, Chen Feng was somewhat uncomfortable with her enthusiasm. However, even though he knew she was somewhat acting, as a man, he felt flattered inside.

"Alright, aren't we meeting now? Plus, we haven't been apart for too long, at most just a month."

Chen Feng gently patted her back and pushed her away.

Liu Ying said with a teasing expression, "Is a month not long? It felt like years; didn't you miss me even a little during our time apart? I was thinking about you every day."

"Of course, I missed you. But, we're well past the age of falling in love, there's no need to act like youngsters."

"We're not seventy or eighty years old; can't we fall in love?" Liu Ying frowned beautifully.

Despite having given birth and divorced, she's only thirty in Chinese age, not very old, with tight skin, a curvy figure, and most importantly, good looks.

Now she's the type many people, both young and old, like.

"It's not impossible. But do you think there's still a need for us to fall in love?" Chen Feng looked at her with a half-smile.

Liu Ying immediately said, "Of course there's a need. Back in college, due to circumstances, we didn't date; now we're fortunate to reunite and get to know each other again, starting anew and making up for the past regrets, isn't that just right?"
