Chapter 235: University Memories_2
This coffee shop has a good location, but from the pricing perspective, it's not too expensive. After the two ordered, the total cost was a little over a hundred, not reaching two hundred.
Liu Ying chose this place for their date, obviously to make Chen Feng see her as down-to-earth, not vain, and not prone to high spending. Moreover, it was also convenient regarding the distance from both of their residences.
"I've grown used to drinking coffee abroad over the years; it's the one habit that's changed. Apart from that, including my eating habits, I still prefer our domestic cuisine. I'm really tired of the milk and bread abroad. I still love eating fragrant white rice and various home-cooked dishes."
Chen Feng skeptically asked, "You can probably still get white rice and Chinese food abroad now, right?"
"For one, Chinese ingredients are somewhat scarce, especially various spices. For another, the price is quite high; it's really unaffordable to eat every day. And, my cooking skills are pretty average; the best I can manage is tomato egg soup or tomato scrambled eggs."
Chen Feng laughed, "It sounds like you've suffered abroad for these years. That's inevitable. After all, you grew up domestically and only went abroad after college. To be frank, you just made a bad choice with your ex-husband back then."
Liu Ying sighed and said, "You have no idea how hard it was for me when I first went to San Francisco. My spoken English wasn't very good, and my accent was heavy. Although there were quite a few international students from here, I didn't live with them. Because several guys showed me a lot of attention, a few girls from the same country seemed to have banded together against me, making me feel extremely isolated and helpless at that time. And then he appeared and showed concern, even helping me reach out to off-campus rentals. He often assisted me with academics. Tell me, could I really refuse his kindness?"
Chen Feng said dismissively, "All in all, back then your self-reliance abilities were weak, and you lacked sufficient security. Subconsciously, you sought someone to rely on, which gave him the opportunity."
This comment was rather blunt. Despite being true, it still left Liu Ying feeling somewhat stifled inside.
"You know, talking like that can really kill the conversation," Liu Ying pretended to be angry and teased.
Chen Feng laughed, "We were classmates for four years in college; I've always talked this way. Didn't you know?"
Liu Ying seemed to think seriously for a moment, then nodded, "Maybe that's true, but after all these years, hasn't your easily offending speaking style changed?"
Chen Feng said in a relaxed tone, "In front of an old classmate like you, I won't change that. I think you probably don't mind either."
"I do mind." Liu Ying said with a serious expression.
"It's useless if you mind. That's just how I talk to you." Chen Feng said with a bit of rogue attitude.
Liu Ying frowned and asked, "Why? I'm a woman, after all. Can't you show some gentlemanly manners?"
Chen Feng looked at her with a faint smile and said, "Don't forget. Back in the day, you vented your anger at me in front of the whole class, harshly criticized me, and loudly rejected my pursuit, saying we're impossible in this lifetime. You also said I was thinking too highly of myself. In short, a lot of harsh words. Afterward, we didn't speak throughout college."
Liu Ying had evidently prepared mentally for this and drafted some thoughts. Hearing Chen Feng mention this, she appropriately revealed a trace of awkward regret, then sighed with a bitter expression, "I was wrong at that time. But you must also know, it was Cao Jun who secretly slandered you, making me believe that you were using me as a wager. Of course, I got very angry and said those rather unpleasant things. Later, when I learned the truth, I actually felt very regretful inside and always wanted to find an opportunity to apologize to you.
But every time I saw you, you seemed completely indifferent to me, which annoyed me. So much so that I never managed to apologize until graduation. Part of why I asked you out this time was also to formally apologize. Chen Feng, I'm truly sorry about what happened back then."
At the end, Liu Ying appeared genuinely apologetic, making Chen Feng's slight resentment dissipate quickly.
"Alright, I accept your apology." Chen Feng waved his hand, looking very magnanimous, "To be honest, that incident made it hard for me to hold my head up high in our class for all four years of college. It even directly affected my views on love and relationships during college, making me too discouraged to date any girlfriends throughout university."
This time, it was Liu Ying's turn to look at him with a faint smile, saying with a peculiar expression, "You saying that is somewhat dishonest. In those four years of college, I spotted you several times getting cozy with girls, hugging and cuddling. I even saw once by the lakeside, you were exchanging kisses with a girl. I also heard from classmates that you often took different girls to hotels."
Having his secrets exposed, Chen Feng's face flushed slightly; he thought he had been discreet about those rather physical interactions with a few girls back in college. Turns out, classmates seemed to know.
"That's pure defamation. It wasn't frequent, just occasional." Chen Feng firmly retorted.
Liu Ying chuckled and shook her head, "Alright then. Let's assume it's just a misunderstanding. Hope you won't hold onto what happened back then. But if you do, there's nothing I can do."
"Fair enough. It's been years anyway, plus you were right, it was mainly because Cao Jun was secretly meddling and provoking, so I can't really blame you. I forgive you."
"Thank you." Liu Ying first smiled happily, then also angrily said, "Cao Jun was really excessive, he's simply a sly villain. No wonder you were so angry that you went to fight him back then. Such people are truly shameless, sinister, and cunning. Ever since he found out I returned home, he's been trying to contact me daily, asking me out for meals. Truly annoying. I hear from classmates that he's married with kids, yet still acts like this. Do you think he has the nerve to make a move on me? He's definitely a certified scumbag."
Liu Ying has reasons to be angry at Cao Jun. If Chen Feng were just an ordinary office worker now, she likely wouldn't be so angry. But the problem now is, Chen Feng is definitely a wealthy person, making her inevitably angry. Thinking about her unfortunate marriage, she becomes even angrier.
These past days, she's even fantasized about dating Chen Feng since freshman year, continuing to be in love until graduation and then becoming engaged and married. In that case, she simply wouldn't have gone abroad and wouldn't have had that unfortunate cross-national marriage.
Maybe now she'd be incredibly happy, with a blissful family.
All of this seemingly is Cao Jun's fault!
Chen Feng is unaware of Liu Ying's mindset. If he knew, he'd surely feel unfair for Cao Jun, his former rival in love.
