Chapter 40 - Fear (2)
Perhaps because Zang Ya’s table was the main seat, the person who approached turned out to be King Yama.
As King Yama got closer and closer, An Yun subconsciously moved back, the resistance in his eyes almost palpable.
Zang Ya seemed to sense An Yun’s unease. He was staring at King Yama, lost in thought, and then turned his head to look at An Yun.
Judging from the expression on An Yun’s face, Zang Ya concluded that An Yun must be afraid. Several solutions flashed through his mind, and he finally chose the simplest one.
An Yun watched King Yama draw nearer with a serious expression, and he kept debating whether to run away or hide behind Zang Ya. Although he found both options somewhat embarrassing, he felt that no matter how embarrassing it might be, it wouldn’t be as humiliating as being scared stiff.
Just as An Yun was about to stand up and hide, his head was gently pushed to the side, and Zang Ya calmly said, “Don’t be afraid.”
An Yun then fell onto Zang Ya’s shoulder.
Zang Ya’s shoulders hadn’t yet grown to the breadth of an adult, but at that moment, they felt particularly safe, and An Yun even caught a hint of the fragrance of youth from them.
The eerie sounds of the underworld still filled the air, but An Yun no longer felt panicked and instead felt much more at ease. “Yeah, I’m not afraid.”
Zang Ya looked at An Yun, who had quietly wrapped his hands around his waist, and made no comment on whether he was truly afraid. He raised his eyes and met King Yama, who approached with a glass of wine, awaiting his next move.
King Yama, seeing the way Zang Ya looked at him, noticed that there was no warmth in those dark eyes. They stared at him as if he were an inanimate object, completely indifferent, causing him to unconsciously slow his pace.
When he arrived at Zang Ya’s table, King Yama placed the cup on the table in front of him and said, “I heard there is a distinguished guest in our house, so I brought a cup of fresh brew. I hope you can taste it.”
Zang Ya glanced at King Yama, then looked at the wine in front of him. After a moment’s thought, he shook his head, “I don’t drink.”
King Yama, wanting to persuade him further, suddenly remembered the gentleman’s identity. He swallowed his words and then retreated.
As the music faded, the black mist gradually dissipated, and finally, the ghosts and deities who had come to congratulate them retreated into the mist and vanished.
.
“Pa pa pa!”
“This performance was really wonderful.”
As the sound of clapping filled the room, An Yun’s fear gradually subsided. He withdrew from Zang Ya’s arms, only to meet the playful eyes of the young masters present.
An Yun noticed that the young masters sitting around were staring at him—or more precisely, at him and Zang Ya. Their burning gazes held many complex meanings, making An Yun feel particularly embarrassed. Then he realized he was still in Zang Ya’s arms. He quickly pulled away; his face flushed with embarrassment.
“Young Master Zang, the person you brought is really interesting. Not only is he beautiful, but he also has a lively personality. It seems he was frightened just now?”
When asking this question, the man’s eyes fell on An Yun with a mix of inquiry and intrigue.
Zang Ya listened to his words without answering. He simply pulled An Yun, who had just come out of his arms and whose cheeks were still a little red, closer, playing with his hair. Then he said nonchalantly, “What does this have to do with you? What qualifications do you have to ask me these questions?”
The young man was stunned for a moment, and then his face flushed after being scolded by Zang Ya.
An Yun looked at the man who had spoken. Although the man was obviously very angry, he only dared to glare at Zang Ya and did not dare to make any further moves. An Yun couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
The atmosphere became awkward for a while, with no one daring to speak, fearing they might say something wrong and anger Zang Ya, who might lash out without caring about the consequences.
At that moment, Qi Ming, who had been the first to speak when Zang Ya brought An Yun over, stood up again and addressed everyone. “Everyone, now that we’ve exchanged pleasantries and enjoyed the performance, why don’t we get down to business? Today is the pet party organized by Young Master Zang, and everyone has brought their pets. Why don’t we see who has the best?”
An Yun, who had been feeling embarrassed about hiding in Zang Ya’s arms and being teased by them, suddenly sensed something was off.
Pet party?
An Yun turned to look at Zang Ya, feeling that Zang Ya wasn’t the type to enjoy such frivolous events.
Moreover, they didn’t bring any pets with them this time.
Suddenly, An Yun looked at Zang Ya with a bit of doubt and confusion.
