Chapter 1167: Catching the Fugitive
Not long after, they arrived at the location where Hu Dayong had been seen.
However, by the time they arrived, he was already gone.
Qin Xi's gaze landed on the slightly swaying window. Looking down, he indeed noticed a footprint on the external air-conditioning unit.
He carefully observed the surrounding area before saying, "Over there, chase!"
At the same time, the Special Action Office people also pointed in the same direction, saying, "There!"
The two of them spoke almost in unison.
They exchanged a glance but didn't say anything further. They immediately pursued the direction.
Zhouzhou, hands behind her back, followed behind them, grinning like a little fox, calm and collected.
None of the others noticed her expression; everyone was too focused on catching the fugitive. They were all pumped up, eager to show the police their skills and prevent any future confrontations with them.
Both groups were equally determined, giving it their all.
Soon, they followed the trail to a crowded area. Qin Xi's brows immediately furrowed.
There were too many people here, making it difficult to find Hu Dayong.
But if they couldn't find him, it would be troublesome to try again later.
Was it really like the others had predicted, that they were destined to miss him again today?
No, absolutely not!
Even if they didn't find him, they would keep looking!
He was determined to not let this chance slip by.
A resolute light flickered in his eyes.
The Special Action Office members were also concentrating, watching their Compass or holding their copper coins, each applying their unique method of prediction.
Zhouzhou quietly watched them without intervening.
She had promised not to interfere in their work today. It was up to them.
"This way."
"That way."
Both Qin Xi and the Special Action Office members spoke simultaneously, but the directions they pointed to were completely opposite.
The Special Action Office people immediately furrowed their brows. "Captain Qin, do you not trust us?"
Qin Xi replied, "It's not that I don't trust you, it's that my expertise tells me he went this way."
One of the Special Action Office members raised their chin and said, "My expertise tells me he's going that way!"
The two of them were at an impasse and were about to start arguing when suddenly, the sound of someone munching on sunflower seeds interrupted them.
They turned to see Zhouzhou enjoying her seeds with gusto, looking somewhat speechless.
Qin Xi's lips twitched. "Zhouzhou, focus."
Zhouzhou blinked innocently. "I am focused."
Focused on watching them argue, that is.
It was a shame, she thought; if only there was more time, she would have loved to see them fight.
"Director!" One of the Special Action Office members said, clearly frustrated, calling out to her in an attempt to have her mediate.
Zhouzhou brushed off the sunflower seed husks in her hand and said, "How about this? You each use your method, and we'll have a competition. Whoever wins gets to decide the next course of action. How does that sound?"
"Alright!" The Special Action Office members immediately nodded. They weren't afraid. They wouldn't make a mistake.
As long as Hu Dayong's birth chart didn't show any contradictions, no matter how professional the other team was, he was definitely going that way.
Qin Xi also trusted his own judgment, nodding in agreement. "Fine, let's do it."
Zhouzhou smiled in satisfaction and said, "Then go ahead."
With that, both teams immediately split up and went in different directions.
As the Director of the Special Action Office, Zhouzhou naturally followed her team.
One of the team members glanced at Zhouzhou and asked quietly, "Director, do you trust us?"
"Of course," Zhouzhou answered without hesitation. "How could our Special Action Office not be impressive? All of you were carefully selected by me. This time, we can't afford to lose face. Let's show the police what we're capable of."
"Definitely!" The Special Action Office members all stood tall and full of confidence. With the Director with them, they were sure to win.
Meanwhile, Qin Xi's team members couldn't help but ask, "Boss, do you think we're going to lose?"
After all, they had worked with Zhouzhou before and had seen her abilities. They were a little hesitant now.
If they lost this time, wouldn't they always be overshadowed by the Special Action Office? What would happen to their future cases?
If they ever said they couldn't catch someone again, would they just do nothing?
That would be frustrating.
Qin Xi glanced at them and immediately knew what they were thinking.
After a brief pause, he said, "This isn't a competition. It's about giving the victims some closure. So, don't worry. Catching the bad guys is the most important thing."
Everyone thought about it, nodded, and focused back on the task at hand.
They continued to follow the trail, eventually reaching an alley. Just before they turned the corner, Qin Xi suddenly stopped in his tracks. His gaze swept across a spot on the wall where there was blood, clearly left not long ago.
He examined the shoe prints on the ground and his expression hardened. "Quick, chase!"
It was Hu Dayong!
The others immediately reacted and started searching.
As they got closer to a certain spot, they almost bumped into a few people, narrowly avoiding a collision. They slammed on the brakes.
When they saw the people in front of them, they were surprised. "What are you doing here?"
The people in front of them were none other than the Special Action Office members.
The Special Action Office team looked just as surprised. "We tracked Hu Dayong to this location."
They had been following the direction of the Compass pointer.
They were just as puzzled as to why they had bumped into them.
Seeing them, Qin Xi breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed his judgment had been correct—Hu Dayong was indeed in this area.
"Find him!"
"Understood."
Seeing the situation, the Special Action Office members quickly reacted, their minds set on one thing: they couldn't lose!
They immediately began to search again.
Zhouzhou, trailing behind, had already finished the sunflower seeds, the husks scattered in her hand. She had saved them for this moment, not wanting to make too much noise and risk alerting the fugitive.
They were now in an older part of town, even more crowded than the previous area. Finding Hu Dayong here would be even harder.
Even with the Compass pointing in a direction, there were so many people, it was hard to tell who exactly they were looking for.
"Be careful not to cause a panic among the crowd," Qin Xi said with a furrowed brow, looking around.
This was the worst place to capture someone.
Hu Dayong could easily take someone hostage here, and that would make things even more troublesome.
The Special Action Office team exchanged glances and silently murmured to themselves. Although they didn't like working with the police, they had to admit, putting the crowd's safety first wasn't a bad approach. It improved their impression of Qin Xi, just a little.
But only by a small amount.
Qin Xi's team, dressed in plain clothes, blended seamlessly into the crowd.
Meanwhile, the Special Action Office team, in their robes, stood out like a sore thumb. Fortunately, no one knew what they were doing.
Zhouzhou stopped at a street vendor selling grilled squid, her mouth watering as she watched the vendor prepare it. "Boss, I'll have a hundred skewers!"
"Alright!" The vendor cheerfully responded and immediately started preparing.
Seeing how much Zhouzhou was craving it, the vendor handed her ten skewers first.
Zhouzhou took them and started munching happily.
As for Qin Xi and the others, they had no time to enjoy such things.
One of the Special Action Office members, walking close to Qin Xi, glanced at him and sneered.
This time, he was sure he was going to win.
As he was thinking this, the pointer in his hand suddenly moved, and almost instantly, Qin Xi stopped in his tracks. He immediately made a quick strike at someone who had just brushed past him...
