Chapter 97:
Chapter 97:
The blood moon hung ominously in the sky.
Xiao Yang stood atop the mountain ridge outside Black Wind City, overlooking the chaotic scene below. The city was shrouded in a dense mist, with eerie winds swirling through its streets. A sinister mix of demonic and magical energy filled the air, transforming the city into what seemed like a ghostly realm descending upon the mortal world.
Inside the city, chaos reigned. A strange force controlled countless undead, as though the gates of hell had been flung open, unleashing wandering spirits and lost souls to roam freely.
In the central plaza, a protective barrier of intertwined lightning enveloped Jiang Ting, Qin Fei, Lei Renjie, Song Qiang, Yun Qianxue, Ye Qingyao, and other disciples of the Azure Sun Sword Sect. Outside the barrier, countless undead swarmed relentlessly. Any that touched the barrier were immediately struck down by its searing lightning. Soon, a mound of corpses surrounded the protective dome.
Xiao Yang’s gaze fell on a figure dressed in black, standing on a rooftop near the plaza. This person was playing a flute, and the haunting melody echoed across the square, carrying an unsettling, hypnotic quality.
“Yin Yue?” Xiao Yang murmured in surprise.
He recognized this figure. In his previous life, Yin Yue was one of three guardians who followed Qin Fei. The others were You Ying, whom Qin Fei had been forced to kill under Xiao Yang’s pressure, and Ming He. Together, they formed the Three Demon Generals under Qin Fei’s command.
Yin Yue, a female demon cultivator, was a master of soul-manipulating melodies. Using her music, she controlled the Black-Scaled Brain-Eating Lizards, which in turn dominated the undead. Yet, an unseen force in the city seemed unwilling to relinquish control of the undead to an outsider. Two opposing powers vied for dominance over the shambling corpses.
Xiao Yang watched the scene from his vantage point, a faint smirk playing on his lips. He knew all too well that this chaos was orchestrated by Qin Fei. Once again, Qin Fei was staging a performance, likely aiming to appear as a heroic savior and win over Jiang Ting and his fellow disciples.
In his past life, Xiao Yang had been part of this group, and Qin Fei’s manipulations had led to Xiao Yang being accused of cowardice and abandonment in the face of danger. But now, having been reborn, Xiao Yang was eager to see how Qin Fei would play his cards this time.
A burst of laughter rang out suddenly, breaking the tension. Xiao Yang’s gaze shifted to the plaza, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. It was Lin Wangchuan.
Lin Wangchuan had leaped onto the stage and was now fighting three figures dressed in opera costumes.
“Haha! This is fun! Foxes performing opera? Fascinating!” Lin Wangchuan exclaimed, bounding around the stage like a mischievous monkey.
His antics disrupted the eerie performance, and the haunting music abruptly ceased. Xiao Yang shook his head, bemused. Lin Wangchuan’s carefree nature knew no bounds, even in such a dire situation.
Then, from the shadows beyond the plaza, another figure emerged—a man clad in black. The undead immediately surged toward him.
“Begone!” the man roared, drawing a blade and unleashing a sweeping strike. The blade’s light sliced through the undead like a tidal wave, cutting them cleanly in half. Yet, there was no blood. The corpses were entirely dry, devoid of even a drop of life’s essence.
The newcomer exuded an aura of overwhelming demonic energy as he strode toward the protective barrier. When he reached it, he leaped high into the air, gripping his blade with both hands, and brought it down with devastating force.
“Demon sect remnants?” Jiang Ting and the others gasped in alarm.
The man’s blade struck the barrier with a deafening boom. Though the impact sent him hurtling backward, the barrier trembled violently under the blow. Gritting his teeth, the man fixed his gaze on the disciples within, his hands trembling slightly from the recoil.
“He can’t break through my master’s artifact,” Lei Renjie declared confidently.
“Thank goodness,” the others sighed in relief.
This attacker was undoubtedly a formidable warrior at the Heavenly Martial Realm. Had he succeeded in breaching the barrier, only Lei Renjie might have been able to face him in combat.
Xiao Yang observed the unfolding events, his expression calm. He recognized the attacker as a disciple of the Blade Demon, Li Kuang. Meanwhile, the black-clad figure who had drawn Lei Lie away was none other than Li Kuang’s master.
In the eastern part of the city, thunderous sounds of battle echoed. Lei Lie and the Blade Demon were locked in a fierce duel. Lightning flashed and thunder roared as Lei Lie’s True Thunder Sword Technique clashed with the Blade Demon’s strikes. The city’s rooftops became a battlefield, with the two titans trading blows.
Back in the plaza, another figure stepped out of the shadows to join the fray.
“Junior Brother, let’s break this turtle shell together!” the newcomer called out.
“Understood!” Li Kuang replied.
The two demon cultivators launched a coordinated assault on the lightning barrier. Their blades descended in unison, releasing devastating arcs of energy that tore through the undead around them. The disciples inside the barrier braced themselves, their swords drawn.
The barrier trembled under the twin strikes but held firm, repelling the attackers once more.
“Haha! Give it up already,” Han Bin taunted, laughing mockingly.
“Looks like they’re all bark and no bite,” Zheng Fan added, smirking as he gave the demon cultivators a rude gesture.
Jiang Ting, still protecting Qin Fei, let out a breath of relief.
But just as the group began to feel secure, a shadowy figure descended from the sky.
With a thunderous impact, they struck the barrier.
The lightning barrier shattered instantly, scattering its protective energy into the air.
“What?!” The disciples were paralyzed with fear.
