Chapter 25:
Chapter 25: Martial Virtue:
The little girl led the two gangsters for half an hour until they arrived at an unfinished construction site. Lin You followed cautiously, keeping a safe distance. As they walked, he finally overheard the girl’s angry ranting. It seemed her boyfriend had taken an interest in another woman, and she was leading her gang to catch him in the act.
This situation clearly had nothing to do with Li Ruochen, but by now it was 5:40 p.m., and the sun was setting. Even if Lin You wanted to resume his search for her, it was too late. He decided to stick around and see if he could get any information from the gangsters.
The group stopped at a small room with a makeshift door. The girl, without hesitation, kicked it open and shouted, “Wang Ermao, get out here! If you touched that tramp today, I’ll crush your balls!”
Lin You’s heart raced as the door swung open.
Inside, he saw Li Ruochen tied up on the ground, her clothes disheveled and her pants torn, exposing her long, pale legs.
Her usually composed and cold face was now bruised, and her eyes brimmed with fear.
Beside her sat a burly man with a tuft of yellow hair, the rest of his head shaved. His fleshy face, adorned with a gaudy gold chain, glistened with sweat. A cheap cigar dangled from his lips. Around him stood seven or eight lackeys, their eyes filled with malice.
The man, Wang Ermao, didn’t seem alarmed by the intrusion. He exhaled a puff of smoke and sneered at the girl. “Liu Min, don’t push your luck. You think you can stop me from seeing other women? Dream on!”
Liu Min, as the girl was called, glared back at him with fury. “Wang Ermao, don’t forget how you got to where you are today. If I hadn’t spent ten nights entertaining King Kong, you’d still be rotting in a gutter somewhere with your tendons cut!”
Wang Ermao spat on the ground, his face turning red with anger. “Don’t remind me of that disgusting time. Just thinking about how you were used by King Kong’s son makes me sick.”
As their shouting match escalated, Lin You peeked into the room to assess the situation. It was a large warehouse-like space, roughly 300 square meters, cluttered with discarded building materials. Seven or eight gangsters stood scattered around, watching the altercation with amused indifference.
Lin You hesitated.
There was no way he could take on so many people by himself.
Even if he called the police, it would likely be too late by the time they arrived. He felt conflicted. He wanted to leave and alert the authorities but remembered how Li Ruochen had given him chicken drumsticks and fried fish at the cafeteria. Could he abandon her now?
As Lin You deliberated, a fight broke out.
Liu Min proved surprisingly fierce, and although her two lackeys weren’t very strong, they joined in the brawl. Chaos erupted as punches and kicks flew.
Seizing the distraction, Lin You crept into the room. When Li Ruochen spotted him, tears of relief streamed down her face. Lin You edged closer, but just as he was within seven or eight meters of her, the situation took a dramatic turn.
A young man in a Tang suit, who had been standing quietly beside Wang Ermao, suddenly stepped forward.
With practiced ease, he caught a baseball bat mid-swing and counterattacked, sending Liu Min sprawling to the ground. She lay unconscious from the blow, and her two lackeys were quickly subdued by Wang Ermao’s men.
Lin You now found himself the only outsider in the room.
Summoning his courage, he shouted, “She’s my classmate! I’ve already called the police. Let her go before it’s too late!”
Wang Ermao raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by Lin You’s audacity. But his surprise quickly turned into amusement. “You’ve got guts, kid, but you’re too young to challenge me.”
He waved a hand dismissively. “Boys, break his legs and toss him outside.”
Two lackeys moved to block the door while two more advanced on Lin You. Though he appeared shocked, Lin You was silently calculating his chances of escape. He was a skilled sprinter, the fastest in his school, capable of running 100 meters in just over 11 seconds.
As Wang Ermao grabbed Li Ruochen’s hair, he sneered, “So you’re in love with him, huh? Fine. If you agree to sleep with me, I’ll let him go.”
Li Ruochen’s face was etched with despair as she looked at Lin You. Her helplessness ignited a spark of righteousness in him.
Lin You shouted, “What kind of man beats up a girl? If you’re so tough, face me one-on-one!”
Wang Ermao laughed and waved off his men. “Alright, kid, let’s see what you’ve got.”
He strode up to Lin You and launched a kick at his chest. Lin You, agile and quick, dodged the attack and retaliated with a knee strike to Wang Ermao’s groin. It wasn’t the time for honor—Lin You aimed for the weak spot.
Wang Ermao let out a scream and staggered back, clutching his crotch.
Furious, he grabbed a brick and roared, “What are you idiots waiting for? Beat him to death!”
The gangsters rushed at Lin You, armed with steel pipes, bricks, and wooden planks. Despite his agility, Lin You couldn’t fend off their combined assault. A steel pipe struck his shoulder, and a brick landed on his head.
Pain exploded in his skull, and he collapsed to the ground.
The gangsters surrounded him, kicking him mercilessly. As Lin You lay there, battered and barely conscious, he heard Li Ruochen scream, “Stop! I’ll do whatever you want! Just let him go!”
