Chapter 8
The black snake probably thought Wan Zhong was too delicate.
When he ate, he always took small bites, and his skin could be broken by one touch, and the skin would turn red when it wrapped its tail around him. Therefore, the prey it caught for him were all cubs that had not even grown their deciduous teeth.
Not only was the meat delicious, it was also tender and easy to bite.
Wan Zhong stared blankly at the tiger cub lying on his knees, moaning non-stop, never dreaming that he would one day treat the king of the jungle as food.
He touched the tiger cub’s beautiful, smooth fur and had no appetite for it.
The black snake spit out the snake’s tongue and picked out a red egg from the kidnapped cubs to give him.
Wan Zhong listened to the howls of the beasts hiding in the periphery, hissing and wailing but not daring to come forward. He wondered how many animals’ nests the black snake had taken?
“Thank you for your hard work, but I don’t want to eat these.” Wan Zhong considered his tone, adjusted his expression, and lowered his eyebrows to try to look docile and not to appear ignorant.
He tentatively asked the black snake: “Are there any pheasants, goats, things like that? Or where can I fish? I want to eat something that humans usually eat, okay?”
Wan Zhong didn’t know if the black snake knew about chickens and sheep. Did it even know about fish?
He didn’t know if it could understand him. But he just felt this black snake, which had refreshed his understanding of animals’ countless times, would understand.
The black snake tilted its head, put the tiger cub and the red egg in his hand on the ground, then picked him up again and climbed deeper into the forest.
.
On the way, it broke a branch full of wild fruits for him and stopped for him to eat.
Wan Zhong relied on his superficial experience of struggling to survive in the forest when he was escaping, and he prejudged there would definitely be bugs inside the fruit. He believed only the snake fruit was clean.
He looked at the wild fruit, which was as big as a cherry and had light yellow patterns on its surface, and was unwilling to take it.
The black snake was resolute, with an attitude that it would not leave until he ate.
Wan Zhong could only take one. After breaking it open to make sure there were no bugs, he took a small bite and tasted it. It was sour, sweet, and crispy, and the texture was very similar to winter dates.
Wan Zhong immediately named this wild fruit black date and included it as one of the foods that could be eaten.
He firmly tucked the entire hem of his shirt into his trousers, and picked all the black dates from the branches and threw them in through the collar. After a while, his lower abdomen became slightly swollen and he had a slightly rounded belly.
The black snake narrowed its eyes slightly, looked at Wan Zhong’s belly intently for a few seconds, and then moved on.
Later, it picked several wild fruits for him, but because they were too bitter or astringent, Wan Zhong did not collect them.
.
When the moon hid behind the cloud and the night was so dark, the black snake carried Wan Zhong to a vast and fertile grassland.
A man and a snake were hiding quietly behind a tree, and they all looked at a group of black figures walking leisurely on the boundless grassland. They didn’t know what kind of animal they were.
Wan Zhong rubbed his eyes and felt that the black shadow seemed to be a cow, but it was not. He held his belly full of black dates and asked the black snake in a low voice: “What is this? Are you sure it is edible?”
The black snake lowered its green vertical pupils to look at Wan Zhong, and poked his belly with the tip of its tail. Finally, tap the big snake’s head.
Wan Zhong’s pupils opened slightly, wondering how long this black snake had lived?
Even though it could understand people’s words, it actually responded with body movements like a human being. It was so smart like a spiritual being.
Wan Zhong calmed down, grabbed the tip of the black snake’s tail and asked it again: “Then why don’t you catch it?”
His Adam’s apple rolled slightly, and he swallowed his saliva.
The black snake spat out snake tongue, wrapped its tail around Wan Zhong’s wrists and elbows, put half of the snake’s tail on his shoulder, and swayed lazily. Then it lowered its tail tip and patted his butt.
[Come and beg first~]
Wan Zhong didn’t have the ability to read minds, nor did he understand the black snake’s thoughts very well.
He looked at it spitting out snake tongue and twisting its body to look noble and cool, and thought it was saying: ‘For a weak animal like this, do you still need me, Old Hei, to take action?’
Wan Zhong struggled to carry the black snake on his shoulder, with its heavy tail dangling. Just as he was thinking about how to catch it without the help of the black snake, the thing seemed to have discovered their presence.
The moment they turned around to look over, the moon emerged from the clouds, illuminating the field of vision…
The black shadow that revealed its true form, a body as big as a calf and a neck as long as a giraffe. Its body was covered with extremely beautiful feathers, its head was small, it had a crest on its head, it looked like a chicken but not a chicken, and it had three strange legs.
Wan Zhong stared at the three-legged monster in stunned silence, and the fingers holding his belly suddenly tightened.
A full 108 days had passed since he arrived on this desert island.
He used red stones to place an ‘SOS’ international Morse code rescue signal on the cliff next to the snake’s nest. He looked at the distant sea day after day, just hoping that someone could save him from this ghost place. Relying on this slim hope, he overcame his fear and struggled around a big snake that might eat him at any time.
And he told himself over and over again that as long as he lived, he would be saved.
Intentionally or unintentionally, he ignored many places on this island that were different from his original living environment. He hypnotized himself into thinking that he had little knowledge and did not know much about the natural world, so he had never seen those strange and exotic plants or strange animals.
.
But now…
Wan Zhong looked at that animal with an extremely long neck and three legs that he had never seen or heard of in books or in reality, and he really couldn’t deceive himself any longer.
He felt that he had to turn off his brain’s self-paralysis protective mechanism and try to accept another possibility.
——The only thing worse than living on a desert island was that he traveled through space and time.
This way, all the strange and unimaginable things he saw, heard, and encountered made sense.
“So where is this… I… I can’t go back…”
Wan Zhong couldn’t accept this possibility, and fell on the black snake. He collapsed and his eyes were red.
The black snake: “!!!”
It just wanted to tease him, but it didn’t want to make him cry.
It was a little at a loss and wrapped its snake body around Wan Zhong. With a flick of its tail, it caught the three-legged monster that jumped two meters high and flapped its wings in an attempt to escape. It rolled it up with its tail and threw it to Wan Zhong’s foot.
While licking the wet marks at the corners of Wan Zhong’s eyes with the snake tongue, it silently comforted him.
[I caught it for you, don’t cry.]
Wan Zhong was feeling uncomfortable, sniffing and avoiding its tongue, turning his back and ignoring it.
When the black snake saw this, it was worried.
It hadn’t kissed and hugged its spouse yet, and now they were having conflicts after only a few days together. How could they still happily wrap their tails around each other in the future?
If they weren’t happy when wrapping tails, how could they hatch healthy and lively babies?
The black snake felt it was time to show off its good skills in coaxing its spouse.
It immediately swung its tail, flying it left and right, and gave the three-legged monster that had been stunned by it a few big slaps, trying to make someone happy.
Wan Zhong: “!!!”
He felt his body shivered, and under the cold gaze of the black snake, who was killing chickens to scare the monkeys, he turned around and hugged a part of its huge snake body lovingly, trembling with tears on his long eyelashes and letting it continue to lick him, with a meek look on his face. Didn’t dare to resist at all.
The black snake: “Shhh~~~”
Hehe!
[As expected, my spouse is a perfect match for him. Not only is he as gorgeous as he is, but his temper is also gentle and generous like him. He is really easy to coax.]
