Aether Chronicles: Birth Of A Legend

Chapter 193: That's The Lost One

Raegar grabbed Drusilla and put her inside his pocket as he spoke. ''Let's get going, I want breakfast.''

The Dark Fairy giggled but agreed as the two of them left the room, only to be met by Rune and Caspian at the end of the corridor. When the duo spotted him, the giant boy made a comment. ''Rae! I'm glad you woke up, are you ready for today's classes?''

He waved his left arm. ''Yes, my little Fairy healed me from my fight with the assassins. So I can get back to training you guys during P.T.''

Following that, the three of them made their way to the dining hall as they ascended the stairs, where the trio bumped into all the other boys heading to their classes and quickly moved out of the way.

As this happened, Caspian commented with a chuckle. ''Looks like your reputation is spreading, Rae. Most students have heard about the fight against the Devil Lord and how you saved Professor Morris.''

Raegar's lips curved into a warm smile, but before he could respond, she darted out of his pocket in a flutter of shimmering wings. With a mischievous twirl, she perched atop his head, her tiny weight barely noticeable but her presence impossible to ignore.

The sight drew hearty chuckles from his two friends, their eyes glinting. The dark-haired boy, still grinning, shook his head. ''I forgot you bonded with a Dark Fairy, Rae,'' he teased, his voice laced with mock disbelief.

''She's here to stay,'' he replied, his tone steady but fond as he glanced upward, though he couldn't see Drusilla's smug expression. ''The headmistress said she can attend my classes, since we're bound together for the long haul, years, probably.''

His words carried a quiet pride when he mentioned the bond with the gorgeous blonde. His friends nodded, their laughter fading into easy agreement, and the trio set off toward the walkway leading to the main building.

As he stepped onto the wooden path, a breeze swept over him, the cold air prickling his skin as the sprays of water hit him. Below, the sea roared, its waves crashing against the jagged cliffs.

The salty tang of the ocean mingled with the crisp morning air, and the vast expanse of water below them glittered under the morning sun. Drusilla, still perched on his head, sitting cross-legged, gave a small, contented hum, her wings fluttering lightly, ready to face the day together.

He glanced over the edge only for Rune to appear beside him. ''I can't believe we sleep under that thing,'' he said with a playful grin. ''Especially you, Rae, and that window right there, it's downright eerie.''

The Dark Fairy chimed in. ''Told you, Rae! That place gives me the creeps!''

Raegar turned his gaze toward the two, shaking his head as the group continued as they entered the main building. ''You two are being dramatic. The Siren Sea is full of all kinds of monsters, but Aether Shields protect it from the beasts. Maybe you guys are too scared.''

Caspian nodded while Rune and Drusilla looked amazed. The Dark Fairy looked around with glowing blue eyes, only to smile as she exclaimed. ''You're right! I can see the barrier covering the tower from top to bottom.''

They stepped into the building, where Dominique, Vienna, and Luna awaited them. Spotting him, the Vampire's face lit up with a smile, prompting the towering boy to lean in and tease softly. ''Looks like Domi's got a soft spot for you.''

The giant chuckled, adding. ''She's misunderstood, but get to know her, she's fiercely loyal.''

''I know Rune,'' Raegar said. ''She's a unique girl just like your Julia.''

Following that, the three girls greeted them, and Dominique slowly approached him. ''Hello Rae, how was your rest?''

''It was good, Drusilla here panicked when seeing the Kraken,'' he answered, chuckling. ''It took some time for her to calm down.''

When the Dark Fairy heard this, her blue eyes widened before she retorted. ''What do you bloody expect! It's a Primordial Monster that is stronger than the headmistress, and it just watches you while you sleep!''

He chuckled, but Dominique's expression changed as she questioned. ''Is it threatening?''

''No,'' he shook his head. ''It's like the town's nosey old man who loves to watch life pass by. It's touched the glass once when it ate some creatures trying to attack me.''

The Vampress was shocked as she rubbed her chin. ''Interesting. It's intelligent and peaceful. Maybe a Deepsea Kraken? They are Primordials and love to explore the Siren's Sea.''

''Stop defending him, Dom!'' Drusilla complained. ''Yes, it may not be threatening, but it's not every day something so powerful appears.''

''That's the Lost One,'' Luna suddenly said as she joined the three of them. ''Mother told me he's the guardian of Drakenwood. He protects the school from the other sea monsters who have attacked previously.''

When he heard this, his eyes widened in surprise. Drusilla calmed down as Dominique was the one who commented. ''That's fascinating, I have heard the rumours of some of the schools having monster guardians.''

''They do,'' the green-haired girl revealed.

Rune's impatient expression drew everyone's focus. ''Come on, guys,'' he urged, ''Selene and Zahara are waiting in the gardens, according to Vienna.''

The group hurried toward the gardens, eager to meet the two girls. As they moved, Luna glanced at him and whispered. ''There are books about the Lost One in the library. You should check them out when you get a chance.''

Following that, the seven of them pressed forward as classes were about to start, and they wouldn't be late to Ranthar's lesson, their footsteps echoing softly as they exited through the grand oak doors.

The crisp air of the gardens greeted them, fragrant with blooming jasmine and the faint tang of dew-kissed grass. In the distance, beneath the dappled shade of an ancient willow, stood Selene and Zahara, engrossed in animated conversation.

Raegar quickly noticed the half-elf, turned at the sound of their approach, her pointed ears twitching ever so slightly. Her golden hair, swept back into a neat ponytail, caught the sunlight, casting a halo around her delicate features.

His breath caught in his throat as he took in the sight. The brown skinned beauty's presence seemed to radiate an otherworldly charm. Her grey eyes sparkled with a quiet intensity, and the way she carried herself left him momentarily spellbound.

The gentle sway of her ponytail as she tilted her head only added to her allure, making Raegar's heart skip a beat as the group drew closer. Zahara's gaze met his as she broke away from her conversation, her lips curving into a warm smile.

''Rae, you made it!'' she said, her voice bright, carrying a hint of excitement that felt personal, though she seemed unaware of its effect.

She tilted her head slightly, her pointed ears giving a faint twitch as she gestured toward the gardens. ''Selene and I were just talking about the starbloom flowers, they're blooming early this year. Want to see them with us?''

Her invitation was casual, but the way her eyes lingered on him, sparkling with genuine curiosity, sent a warmth flooding through his chest. Raegar fumbled for words, his usual confidence faltering under her effortless charm.

''Uh, yeah, sure,'' he managed.

Zahara didn't seem to notice his flustered state, instead turning to lead the way, her ponytail swaying with each step, as the others watched this with knowing smiles as they waited for them.

She pointed out a cluster of delicate, glowing starblooms, her enthusiasm animated her features, and he found himself hanging on her every word, utterly captivated by her unaware enchantment.

Without thinking, Raegar plucked one and tucked it behind her ear, oblivious to the way her gaze lingered on him. Selene, catching the exchange, smirked and nudged Vienna, who stifled a chuckle.

''Alright, lovebirds, enough flower-gazing,'' Rune interjected with a playful roll of his eyes. ''We're due at the training ground. Let's move.''

The group fell into step, weaving through the garden's winding paths toward the open expanse of the training ground. Zahara walked beside him, her shoulder occasionally brushing his as she chatted animatedly about the upcoming sparring session.

''I've been working on my footwork,'' she said, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. ''Selene says I'm too predictable, but I'll show her today!''

Her confident grin was infectious, and he found himself nodding along, still dazed by her effortless charm. Following that, they arrived at their P.T class, and Raegar, ever the dedicated instructor, took his role seriously.

Drusilla flew into the air and hovered there, catching everyone's attention, but the professors already knew about her. She watched as he pushed each of his friends through a relentless series of drills designed to test their endurance and sharpen their skills.

Raegar's infectious energy kept the group motivated, even as sweat dripped and muscles burned as the workout hit every part of their bodies. From the sidelines, Professor Crowhurst, with his mane of orange hair and piercing green eyes, watched everything unfold.
