Chapter 49: Fire Kingdom (2)

"Almost as good as beating Lila!" Finn whooped mid-air before the tires slammed back down with a heavy thud. The bike bounced, once, twice, before stabilizing again.

[You had a driving license in your first life, right?]

"Tch, didn't even renew my ID," Finn said with a laugh, eyes still fixed on the horizon.

[I get that you're excited, but PB clearly stated that the bike can only handle 50 grams of Pure Star Crystal, which won't give you more than 4000 kilometers at full speed.]

Sika's voice, sharp and dry, cut into his ear like a conscience he couldn't mute. Finn groaned, slowing slightly.

"Remind me why I didn't tell her to load more than that damn fifty grams?"

[Two reasons. One: even though the fuel tank is made from Pure Star Crystal crate metals and won't be damaged by its power, that doesn't mean the engine or bike won't be. Two: and I shouldn't be saying this, but don't be greedy. Pure Star Crystal is the rarest energy there is. Some entire kingdoms don't even have that fifty grams you own.]

Finn clicked his tongue in annoyance, but deep down, he knew she was right. Pure Star Crystal wasn't just rare—it was mythically rare. Even in all his travels with Jake, across dozens of regions and dungeons, they had never once stumbled across it. Not even in the hoarded riches of their treasure room was there a single grain.

With a reluctant sigh, Finn eased the bike down to a calmer 200 km/h. He still had a long way to go.

The road through the Fire Lands stretched endlessly ahead, blistering and alive, dotted with small outposts and molten lakes. He passed multiple cities—clusters of obsidian towers and steam vents—without stopping, eyes fixed on his destination.

After nearly two hours of constant travel, it finally came into view: the capital.

Towering above the horizon, the Fire Kingdom's heart revealed itself in full. At its center stood a massive palace carved directly into a volcanic cliff, glowing from within as if the mountain itself housed a heartbeat of flame.

Finn pulled the bike to a stop at the top of a high ridge overlooking the kingdom. He let out a slow breath as he stared down at it—this land of flame and fire, of old traditions and raw power.

The Fire Kingdom. Its people. Its society. Everything about it burned with intensity and pride.

Things unknown to the people of other kingdoms. Unlike the Candy Kingdom, which focused on trade and economy, the Fire Kingdom was completely isolated, its trade limited to a few allies.

Their vast lands were rich with enough natural resources—volcanic metals, obsidian stone, mineral flames, and ember-root crops—to sustain the Fire Kingdom's entire population for generations. The searing environment that made outsiders wilt was the same force that had refined this kingdom's people into hardened survivors. Whatever their lands could not provide—rare alchemical herbs, enchanted fabrics, or delicacies from beyond—they obtained through carefully measured alliances with trusted partners. The Fire Kingdom didn't trade often, but when it did, the terms were always on its own molten terms.

And the truth was simple: no other nation could claim dominion over these lands. The brutal heat and burning winds that blanketed the Fire Lands made them inhospitable to outsiders. That inhospitability, combined with the fireborne nature of its citizens, granted the kingdom a kind of isolationist power that not even the Candy Kingdom—famed for its commerce and diplomacy—could touch.

"I'm coming, darling…" Finn muttered under his breath as he remounted his bike. The engine rumbled beneath him like a contained beast. He twisted the throttle and moved forward again, his words drifting into the wind. Whether he was speaking to the Fire Kingdom or to the queen who ruled it—it was unclear, maybe even to himself.

As the city perimeter loomed just ahead, Finn pulled to a gradual stop about a hundred meters from the outer checkpoint. With a quiet sigh, he swung his leg off the bike and ran one hand over its frame almost like a farewell gesture. Then, with a flick of his fingers, the vehicle shimmered and vanished—stored safely within his personal spatial field.

[You're not planning to enter the kingdom looking like this, right?] Sika's voice chimed into his head, amused and laced with warning.

"Why? Something on my face?" Finn asked with a smirk, crouching beside a pool of bubbling lava to catch his reflection. The orange light flickered across his blond hair and fair skin, giving him a surreal, foreign appearance.

[No. All Fire Kingdom citizens resemble fire—their appearance usually includes red or orange tones. And for your information, they're not exactly warm to visitors.] Her voice carried a dry sarcasm, but the warning was serious.

"So what should I do?"

[Simpler than you think. You already have magma powers. Use them to alter parts of your body so you look like one of them.]

He grinned, liking the sound of that. Standing still, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, allowing his power to settle into his limbs like liquid heat. The magma within him answered the call.

Slowly, his blond hair began to shimmer and ripple as if melting. It transitioned into molten color before solidifying into a deep orange with hints of red at the tips. His skin flushed slightly, darkening to a light crimson hue, as if he were kissed by the sun itself. His eyes blazed open, now burning with a fierce, glowing red, the irises smoldering like twin embers in the dark.

The transformation was stark. Anyone who had once known Finn Martin would have no hope of recognizing the boy standing here now.

"One thing left," he muttered to himself.

He unzipped and slipped off his iconic yellow jacket, folding it neatly before sliding it back into the spatial field. In its place, he retrieved a fresh set of clothes—sleek black jeans and a deep red zip-up jacket. It clung tightly to his body and shimmered subtly in the heat, trimmed with black accents that made his toned frame stand out. The color pairing—red and black—blended perfectly with his new appearance, giving him a rugged, dangerous charm.
