Adventure Time : A True Journey

Chapter 46: 44. Strange creatures, an interesting item and the danger of scavenging

The fight was insightful for Finn, to see how an expert fighter could so easily handle something he would take longer alone to do was a revelation. And the fact Finn was sure his fire would have proven disadvantageous only made Finn feel worse.

He replaced the image of Rattleballs with himself in that fight and started running a simulation of that fight and Finn came to one sad conclusion. The current him would be unable to replicate what Rattleballs had done.

How Rattleballs used both his sword technique and his whole body to claim advantage the moment the fight started.

How he easily dodged every attack with his extreme speed and his vigilant pose.

How he easily sliced through the enemy with ease. As if he were cutting through grass.

Finn wanted to be able to move and fight like that.

"Huhh" Finn released the sigh he had been holding for a while now calming his beating heart. He would make sure he would reach such a level.

"That was amazing. "Jake picked up his fallen mouth from the floor and rubbed his eyes. Becoming a sword user was looking very cool at this moment.

The Nomicon nudged him slightly, seemingly lifting his spirit and Finn smiled as he and Jake started moving downwards to where the fight had happened.

" You should keep your distance Finn and Jake." Rattleballs warned and Jake stopped stretching nearer the fight area.

It was only when Finn was this close that he noticed something strange from the remains of the creature's body. A strange sort of gaseous fume was being exhausted from their bodies.

Their bodies twitched slightly, as if they were Alive but Finn was aware this was not so. But both him and Jake took a quick step back.

The Nomicon quickly came to action, two red pieces of long cloth bursting from its pages and wrapping around both Finn and Jakes lower face, completely covering their noses and mouth.

" Thanks dude." Jake gave him a thumbs up at the gesture and both slowly approached, warry of any sudden irregularities.

On closer inspection, Finn could notice the strange glowing crystal like irregularities running through the creatures body.

The green one had multiple crystals jutting out from its back while the purple the same purple spherical crystals on its back.

Now that Finn was this close, he felt the term zombies would be a good explanation for the creatures.

They had deformed and malnourished bodies at the same time certain parts of their undamaged bodies were either leaking or exposing bones

Finn had a strange instinct that this creatures were from another dimension he was very aware of, but he was still unsure which it was.

(Pooof pooof)

The creatures suddenly started bursting apart into a sort bright ash that was blown away by the wind. A truly strange happening. But Finn did notice something left behind from the creatures' bodies, a strange pouch that on closer checking was filled with a type of gold coin!! What he was sure of was they did not match the coins he and Jake normally used.

How truly strange.

" It dropped this once I had slayed them all. Here young Finn, take it. " Rattleballs threw at Finn the object that he noticed was empowering the creatures on their death.

The item was blue and spherical, having an almost glowing center with blue sort of lightning jutting out from it every now and then.

If Finn looked close enough, he was sure he could see faces appearing and disappearing in the blue center, their mouths opened wildly as if in eternal scream.

Holding this item in his hands, Finn felt a memory spark. A recognition from the earlier clues and now from this item in his hands. Especially he recalled how the earlier creatures moved and attacked and he was now very sure.

This item in his hands was a cell and it was from a game world he knew very well called Dead Cells.

His mind went into overdrive, already thinking of the implications of such an event, of the two world joining.

What he was most worried about was less the creatures from that world and more of the virus that seemingly wiped out the entire population of that world and at the same time made the ones unlucky enough to survive into odd mutated Zombie creature's.

Yes, what Finn was worried about was the Malaise!

A mutagenic virus that was able to make the Dead Cells world what it was.

But with worry, with danger, there also existed a reward. Blueprints, runes, cells, boss cells and powerful individuals.

These were all the things the dead cells world offered. All opportunities that were present. But the danger still remained.

If Finn were to ever go there, preparations would have to be key, especially as he was unsure of how Fatale the Malice was and if it was airborne.

What did worry Finn though was the prospect of the Malice gaining root in the land of Ooo, that could prove catastrophic.

How a mutagenic virus would react with a magic filled world. Under the worst possible scenario, the only result would be chaos and the Litch at that point would then be the least of his problems.

Whether Finn was the first to know of these portals or not was also another major problem. What he was sure of was that anyone unprepared to manage the Malaise on entering any of such portals had met a harsh fate.

But the most likely scenario was that these portals were already known of.

How much damage the mutated monster spat out by the portal had already caused throughout this land of Ooo and beyond Finn would only find out later.

" Finn, Finn, you alright buddy. You've been spacing out for a while now. " Jake asked worriedly as he Shook Finn's still body.

"I'm fine Jake, I was just thinking about the whole of this. "Finn gave Jake a smile. He stored the collected cell within the space provided by the Nomicon while also keeping the pouches of gold coins into his backpack.

It was truly unfortunate that the bodies of the creatures had disappeared. Finn would have found them useful for research purposes. Possibly an opportunity to develop a cure. Or at least a suppressor drug for the Malaise.

Finn was confident, while he may lack the facilities and resources he had in his old world Finn was still the genius who had brought revolutionary changes to his old world.

And he was equally confident in his knowledge in biological subjects. Leo did have several certifications in that area and that had also translated to him manufacturing several cures or even panacea to treat several once incurable diseases.

Whether he would be able to find a cure for the Malaise only time would tell.

" Let's continue. " Rattleballs said having given them enough time to organize everything. But Finn was still curious, so he therefore urged Jake to approach the robot who was now on foot.

" Rattleballs, how many monsters of this kind have you fought over the years. " Finn was curious. And he mostly wanted the potential loot the Rattleballs might have accumulated over the years. To his knowledge, Rattleballs had no use for them, especially the cells. Those were what Finn wanted.

" The monsters spawn in every now and then, but it's very rare. I think I saw the last one a few months ago. " Rattleballs said with a thoughtful expression.

" Ifs it isn't too much to ask, could I have those blue spheres the monsters drop when they die. " Finn asked hopefully, unaware if they were of use to Rattleballs.

"Do not worry yourself Finn, I will give you all the blue spheres I have managed to collect over the years. They serve no use to me. " Rattleballs said uncaring of the blue spheres.

While he did meet an odd weirdly dresses person who came by every now and then and asked for the spheres in exchange for something else.

Rattleballs preferred to give them all to Finn, who he knew was the Princesses future champion. That thought made him feel a strange joy at being of use to the person sent to the princess.

"That's great! " Finn fist pumped in joy.

"You're oddly happy for someone who's getting a pair of blue balls. Haha! " Jake laughed oddly at his joke as he spawned another him and they high fived.

"Shut up." Finn did not spare him valediction to start spouting any more puns.

"Oh, oh, I got another one..." Finn quickly covered Jakes mouth preventing him from speaking any more of his trashy puns.

" Tough crowd. "Jake said spawning another mouth on another part of his body but luckily he had finally remained silent.

Finn noticed up ahead Rattleballs had stopped and he was looking up at something above, on another raised junk hill.

It was then that Finn's instinct kicked in, and a sudden danger sent a jolt down his back.
