Chapter 20: Chapter 20
Sengoku had never imagined that Doflamingo would have the audacity to plant an undercover agent within Marine. What frustrated him the most was how Vergo had successfully deceived everyone in the Marine Headquarters, rising to the rank of Vice Admiral and becoming the base commander of G-5. If this information ever leaked, the fallout wouldn't simply be an embarrassment for Marine—it would deeply erode public trust, leading to unimaginable consequences.
For this reason, Sengoku chose to bear the pressure of potential blame from the Five Elders and sanctioned Luo Ye's actions against Doflamingo. More importantly, Sengoku knew Luo Ye wasn't the type to heed orders passively, especially if he had already made up his mind about something. Once Luo Ye decided to act, there was no stopping him.
…
Dressrosa.
"Hey, Vergo, are you telling me the new Admiral is heading to Dressrosa?" Doflamingo asked with a grin, speaking into the phone bug from his palace.
A serious voice responded from the other end. "Don't underestimate him. Since Luo Ye joined Marine, no pirate he set his sights on has ever escaped. Even though Sengoku sent him to Dressrosa just to assess the situation and give you a warning, he's not just here to talk. Luo Ye's reputation precedes him—his title, 'Silver Eagle,' is no joke. Once he locks onto a target, there's no escape."
Vergo, familiar with Luo Ye's reputation from his time as G-5 base commander, wasn't pleased to hear this. Previously, he'd watched Luo Ye deal with pirates from the sidelines, thinking little of it. But now that Doflamingo was the target, Vergo's concern grew.
"Don't worry about it, Vergo," Doflamingo said dismissively. "Just a new Admiral, how strong can he be? Besides, remember that Dressrosa is full of civilians. If he tries anything against me, I won't hesitate to accuse him of slaughtering innocent lives."
After saying this, Doflamingo abruptly hung up, unwilling to hear any more warnings about Luo Ye. He believed that Luo Ye's strength couldn't possibly compare to that of the veteran Admirals, especially the likes of Akainu and the others who had been in power for years. Furthermore, he thought the Five Elders had his back, especially with Kaido, one of the Four Emperors, as his ally. No Marine—new or old—would risk crossing the Five Elders, particularly not a young Admiral like Luo Ye.
"Ha, Silver Eagle Admiral Luo Ye. Let's see what you're really made of," Doflamingo mused as he prepared for the worst.
…
G-5 Branch.
Vice Admiral Vergo sighed as he hung up the phone bug. Doflamingo's arrogance had grown with the family's power, and now he'd become careless—disregarding even the authority of Marine's top brass. Vergo's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the office door slamming open. His heart skipped a beat. No one in G-5 had ever dared to do that.
"Vergo, I've come to arrest you under orders from Marshal Sengoku. You must know why," a voice called from the doorway.
Vergo froze. Marshal Sengoku would never give such an order without good reason. He had a sinking feeling that his cover had been blown. Did Sengoku know that he was an undercover agent for the Donquixote Family?
"Vice Admiral Mole, can you tell me what's going on?" Vergo asked, his voice betraying a hint of anxiety.
Mole, standing in front of him, hesitated. He hadn't received any details from Sengoku about why Vergo was being arrested. But one thing was clear: his orders were unequivocal—Vergo couldn't escape.
"Vergo," Mole said carefully, "If you're innocent, you can explain everything to Marshal Sengoku. I believe that if you tell him the truth, he won't wrong you."
Vergo couldn't help but scoff internally. He knew all too well how much damage his association with Doflamingo had caused over the years. If Sengoku found out the truth, he wouldn't be spared. The thought of being arrested had been a constant fear since he chose to work as an undercover agent.
Suddenly, Vergo stepped towards the window, his eyes scanning for a quick escape route. But before he could act, Mole had already noticed his movement.
Mole quickly closed the distance, blocking Vergo's escape. After a brief struggle, Vergo was subdued. Panting, Mole contacted Sengoku to inform him of the capture.
"Marshal Sengoku, I've subdued Vergo."
"Good," Sengoku responded. "Bring him to the headquarters. I need to ask him some questions."
"Yes, sir!"
After the call ended, Sengoku gazed out the window, deep in thought. "Vergo's been arrested. Now, it's up to you, Luo Ye," he muttered, contemplating the consequences of the unfolding events.
