His body was no longer a vessel for borrowed qi, it had become its own world.

Both of them shared a particular connection, she rather not talk about.

But he had done so as though it were natural. Such progress was absurd, like a scholar not only passing an exam without study, but studying after the results had already been announced topping the exams, only to gain knowledge.

And then there was his spirit sense.

She herself was called a prodigy, yet even she had only awakened her spirit sense at the perfected stage of Foundation Establishment.

Yu Xuan, however, had done it the moment he stepped into the realm, simply by following the natural course of cultivation.

Another sigh escaped her lips as her gaze lingered on the boy sitting cross-legged before her. Watching him, she could no longer tell whether this was fortune or misfortune, that she was unable to teach him.

Standing there, regal and silent, was a nine-tailed fox. Its fur shimmered like fresh snow under sunlight, and its golden eyes locked directly onto mine.

Its tails swayed lazily, each one twice the size of its body. I stared at the fox. The fox stared at me. A battle of eye contact neither of us won.

But I knew it wouldn't harm me after all, it literally lived in the back mountain of my clan. If it wanted me dead, I'd already be fertilizer. And besides, it looked… intelligent.

So, naturally, I did the only logical thing possible in a cultivation world. I pulled out a candy from my pouch, held it out, and gestured politely.

"Candy?"

The fox tilted its head, sniffed, then, plop, ate it up, in one bite.

Its golden eyes gleamed. Clearly, it liked it.

And then, without warning, I lost balance. My vision spun, and the next thing I knew, I was sitting on its back.

Its tails curled around me, soft and warm, comfier than any luxury sofa Earth could ever dream of producing. I swear I could've fallen asleep right there, king of my own furry throne.

Then the fox leaped into the sky.

"WOOOOHHHHH!" I screamed, clinging for dear life as the world blurred beneath me. But the tails held me steady, snug as seatbelts crafted by immortals.

The view was breathtaking — mountains, rivers, clouds drifting in the sky. The fox bounded across the air itself, sometimes running on it as if the sky were solid ground.

For fifteen glorious minutes, I rode a roller coaster no amusement park could ever replicate.

During the ride, I pondered names. Surely it had one already, but I wanted to give it my own.

Something majestic. Something fitting.

Definitely not "Yuki."

Nope.

Absolutely not.

When we finally landed, my heart was still racing. I instantly knew: this would not be the last ride. And I would absolutely not tell my sister. She'd ruin it for sure.

Before parting, I offered another candy. The fox ate it happily, tails swishing in delight.

Without daring to look back, I started walking away, silently hoping it wouldn't suddenly transform into a devastatingly beautiful woman.
