Chapter 22.2: Only Visible to Shi Yan.
Zheng Shuyi finally realized what was happening. She was taken back for a second, then immediately got up and smiled as she replied "Okay~", and then closed her laptop to go downstairs.
The office building at 10:30 PM still had a lot of people who just got off work or others who were waiting for a taxi.
She stood by the median strip but didn't see Shi Yan nor his car.
The wind was blowing violently under the night sky. Zheng Shuyi wrapped her scarf tighter and just when she was about to make another call, someone suddenly patted her on the shoulder.
She turned her head and saw a handsome man standing next to her. He was wearing a cap and smiling brightly, showing two little dimples on his cheeks.
This pair of dimples looked familiar, and Zheng Shuyi remembered that this was the clerk at the coffee shop who gave her a free cup of coffee at noon today.
"You just got off work?" asked the man with a smile.
Zheng Shuyi nodded, "Yes, working overtime."
"It must be tiring," The man suddenly remembered something and said, "Please wait a minute!"
Before Zheng Shuyi even got to say anything, he ran to the coffee shop behind him like a gust of wind.
Soon after, he came out with a small bag.
"Didn't you want to buy this egg tart at noon today? We were out at the time, but I think you two really wanted it, so when the pastry chef came in the afternoon, I asked him to make two of these."
He lifted the brim of his cap and glanced at Zheng Shuyi shyly, "I didn't expect that we would meet when getting off work."
After that, he handed her a small plastic bag.
Seeing that Zheng Shuyi didn't have any intention to accept it, he continued, "I especially reserved them for you. If you don't want it, I'll have to throw them away. I don't eat many sweet foods."
In fact, this man has been working in the cafe for more than half a year already. Every time Zheng Shuyi went to buy a drink, she could see him. But although he wasn't a complete stranger, they weren't that familiar with each other either.
She hesitated and took the bag.
"Thank you, how much is it? I'll give you…"
"Are you waiting for a taxi?" The man knew what she was going to say and quickly interrupted, "It's so late already and it's not safe to be alone. Would you want me to wait with you?"
"I……"
As soon as she made a sound, she heard footsteps behind her.
The footsteps sounded familiar and Zheng Shuyi immediately turned around.
The lights of the office building were very bright, covering the square in front of the door. Shi Yan walked towards her slowly. Even though the light reflection from his glasses was flickering, it didn't stop him from fixing his eyes on Zheng Shuyi.
As if it was a psychological reaction, Zheng Shuyi took a step away from the man.
When Shi Yan got closer, she whispered, "I'm waiting for someone."
Hearing Zheng Shuyi's words, Shi Yan glanced at her and then the man.
Then, she grabbed her wrist.
"Time to go."
The man paused as his words were stuck in his throat. Seeing the two walked away from him, he said, "I…"
Shi Yan stopped, looked back at him, and then asked Zheng Shuyi instead, "Have you paid?"
"Huh?"
Shi Yan glanced at her and without saying anything more, he pulled her to the side of the car. He opened the door and took out some money from the car.
At first, Zheng Shuyi still wasn't sure what was going on. Then, she saw Shi Yan walking back to the man and handing the money to him without saying anything.
The man stood there dumbfoundedly. At this moment, he finally understood something. He blushed, pressed the brim of his cap down, and walked in the other direction.
Zheng Shuyi watched the scene and felt happiness spreading across her whole body. She also wanted to laugh but tried her best to hold back.
With the egg tart in her hand, she watched Shi Yan walk back.
"Why are you here?"
She finally asked.
"Just happened to be passing by."
Zheng Shuyi learned her lesson and didn't say too much this time. She just cleverly said "Oh", and didn’t create trouble for herself.
Shi Yan didn't seem to be in a hurry to leave either.
The wind under the lamp, the wind brought along a perfume fragrance. He looked down at Zheng Shuyi and said solemnly, "You're quite popular."
"Just so-so," replied Zheng Shuyi modestly.
Another moment of silence.
Shi Yan suddenly reached out his hand and gently pulled on Zheng Shuyi's scarf. He saw what she was holding and asked, "Hungry?"
Zheng Shu saw him looking at the egg tarts. She held the bag up and shook it in front of his eyes. "Do you want it?" she asked back.
Shi Yan took the bag from her hand, but instead of eating, he threw it onto the back seats of the car.
"You dare to eat something from a stranger?"
"He's seen me way more often than you have," muttered Zheng Shuyi.
After speaking, she looked up and saw Shi Yan's gaze. Then she immediately got into the car and quickly closed the door.
After a while, Shi Yan didn't come up.
He knocked on the window.
Zheng Shuyi didn't know how she messed up again. She lowered the window by a bit and only showed a pair of eyes to talk to him.
"What?"
"How do you respect the driver without even sitting in the passenger seat?"
——
When Xu Yuling came downstairs, she was talking to a taxi driver who was telling her to hurry up. There were a lot of cars on the streets today and taxis could only stop on the side for up to three minutes. If she didn't come down in time, the taxi would have to leave.
Xu Yuling irritatedly hung up the phone and quickened her pace.
When she walked out of the company's door, she saw Zheng Shuyi sitting in the passenger seat of a car.
She stopped.
First, she looked at the logo of the car, then she looked at the man who opened the door to the driver's seat and got in.
Although it was only the side of his face, she clearly saw who he was under the bright light.
Xu Yuling couldn't believe her eyes. He took out an image of Mingyu Bank's press conference some time ago and studied it over and over again.
