Chapter 172: pound for pound
Boom!
Void was sent flying as he crashed into the ring, shattering hundreds of meters of it.
Standing up, he shook his head. Although they had just reached Early Rank 3, their raw power remained, but the problem was their lack of control. They had only recently broken through, meaning they could barely utilize ten percent of their strength.
"Aargh, what a pain." Void muttered, his gaze sweeping over his opponents.
Frieza, Jiren, Kefla, Top, and Gohan weren't much of a concern. But Vegeta, Goku, and Hit were a different story.
Hit could see the future, and his grasp over time was terrifying. Vegeta, on the other hand, only grew stronger the more he was beaten—though there was a limit before his body broke down. A dangerous bug of an ability. And Goku? That monster's body could move on its own.
"Fuck, a pickle," Void lamented. Yet, his body trembled in excitement—excited for the battle, for the war, for the life-or-death struggle ahead.
Pow!
A loud impact rang out, snapping everyone back to focus. Jiren's fist had slammed into the side of Void's face.
The shockwave reached the gods, making them frown.
It was unheard of. A mortal reaching this level of power—not just one, but multiple.
Boom!
Void's leg bulged as he skidded back, a grin forming on his lips. Jiren stood before him, unwavering.
At two meters tall, Void towered over everyone, yet that didn't deter them.
"Warrior, I told you we would meet again. What is your name?" Jiren asked, his deep voice calm.
"Void," he replied simply.
Jiren nodded. "Then let's battle—a battle to the death."
"Hey! Enough chit-chat! We're here too!" Vegeta stepped forward, standing beside Jiren.
"Tch. Among all of you, I'll be the one to defeat him!" Vegeta declared arrogantly.
"I'm just here to kill him," Gohan said indifferently.
"A great battle…" Goku muttered, his usually warm expression now cold.
Hit narrowed his eyes. "An assassin stays an assassin. I've never feared death… or killing."
"Hahaha! Quiver before Emperor Frieza!" The tyrant laughed as he spread his arms wide.
"You deserve death—Hakai!" Top wasted no time, unleashing the destructive energy.
Boom!
Void deflected the Hakai, sending it soaring into an unoccupied space where the gods and spectators sat.
It disintegrated on impact, leaving everyone in stunned silence.
The Grand Priest snapped his fingers. Instantly, all fallen fighters were revived on the stands, halos hovering over their heads.
"Spectate this match." His voice was absolute.
Seeing the level Goku and the others had reached made the Grand Priest reconsider certain things.
"I said, quiver before me!" Frieza taunted, stepping toward Top.
Tension rose as Void watched calmly.
"Frieza, we shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves," Goku said.
Before he could finish, a blast shot toward him. Goku's body moved instinctively, dodging it.
"Frieza!" he growled through gritted teeth.
Top glared down at the smaller Frieza, his aura surging.
"Among all of us, you're the weakest," Frieza stated coldly.
The battlefield went silent.
Because… he was right.
"Bravo! And I am the strongest." Void's voice cut through the tension like a blade.
Infighting? At a time like this? That wouldn't do.
"Yes, about that…"
A voice whispered as Hit appeared before Void.
Boom!
An attack landed. Smoke billowed, concealing the scene. But when it cleared—
Void stood there, gripping Hit's punch effortlessly.
"Time? I happen to control that law too." A grin stretched across Void's face.
The battle erupted once more. Their attacks were fiercer, faster, deadlier. Void, now actively fighting back, displayed fragments of his true power.
On the stands, the revived fighters and spectators watched in horror.
"Is this… the realm of the strongest?"
Void was alone, yet holding off eight Rank 3 warriors.
Bam!
Kefla struck Void, forcing him back. Before he could recover, Frieza's knee drove into his ribs.
Boom!
His knees buckled as Goku and Frieza's attacks landed simultaneously.
Vegeta, Top, Jiren, and Gohan followed up, their combined strikes launching Void across the battlefield.
Boom!
They clashed again, the ring now riddled with massive craters, threatening to collapse.
Void gained firsthand experience with the Qi Method of the Dragon Ball world. Normally, their attacks should have obliterated the entire ring—but their energy was compressed, transferring all destructive force directly into their target's body.
He grabbed Kefla's head, squeezing it as she screamed in pain. Before he could crush her, Hit intervened, saving her.
They all understood—one-on-one, none of them stood a chance against Void. If they lost even a single ally, the battle was over. They would all die.
"Stay alive!" Goku shouted as he attacked again.
"Don't be cocky!" Hit warned, lunging at Void.
Kefla sneered. "Cocky? You're all cocky!" She charged in as well.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions rained down. The ring crumbled further as the battle reached its climax.
And then—
A mistake.
Void snatched Gohan's leg.
Crack!
His right leg snapped like a twig.
Void swung Gohan's body—smashing him straight into the approaching Vegeta.
"HAAAAA!" Vegeta howled in pain.
Dodging to the side, Void's gaze locked onto Goku.
Boom!
They engaged in a high-speed clash, their attacks blurring as they dodged and countered.
The scale of destruction escalated. The ring could no longer withstand them.
Then—
Time froze.
Hit's punch hovered just centimeters away from Void.
The frozen time trembled as Hit fought against it.
But Void released time first—his fist colliding with Goku, sending him flying out of his Ultra Instinct state.
Bam!
Hit's punch finally landed, forcing Void back.
Clash!
Jiren struck from the side. Void reacted instantly, swiping at Jiren and Hit—forcing them both to retreat.
An opening.
Void seized Top, slamming him into the ground with earth-shattering force.
Top fainted.
Now, only Frieza, Jiren, Hit, and Kefla remained.
The battle was far from over.
Void grinned at the remaining fighters as he advanced.
Boom! Boom!
Two sounds rang out as Kefla and Hit collapsed, leaving only Frieza and Jiren.
"Finally, the two strongest for now," Void grinned.
Everyone had mastered their forms, making it clear who stood at the top. After mastering their new transformations, Frieza and Jiren had dominated the battlefield, overwhelming everyone else.
Jiren turned to Frieza and spoke.
"Don't get in my way," he said coldly.
Frieza rolled his eyes. "Likewise."
Boom!
They both moved at the same time, charging at Void, who met them head-on.
Boom!
Blocking Frieza's punch, Void was struck by Jiren's fist, sending him sliding back several meters.
Boom!
They clashed again, the three of them exchanging blows at breakneck speed. They flew through the air, stopping mid-air before engaging once more.
Each clash only fueled Void's excitement. He used different laws, exploiting their weaknesses while ensuring he didn't end the fight too quickly. Instead, he toyed with them, drawing out the battle.
"This…" Champa muttered in shock.
"If all demons are like him, then…" another God of Destruction trailed off.
The revived fighters had no idea what the gods were discussing, but whatever it was, it spelled bad news for the Dragon Ball world. Worse still, they now knew who Void truly was—a primordial demon, one of the most fearsome beings they had ever encountered outside of the gods themselves.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Two bodies fell to the ground as Void crouched with a grin.
"And so it ends—with me winning Round One," he declared.
Sensu beans appeared in the mouths of the fallen fighters, restoring them instantly.
"Ready for Round Two?" Void asked with a smirk.
The eight fighters exchanged glances before smiling.
AARRGHHHHH!
Various battle cries echoed as they ascended into their forms once more. They launched themselves at Void, their attacks fiercer than before. Their coordination had improved, making the fight much tougher. The ring crumbled under the intensity of their battle, only to be instantly repaired by the Grand Priest.
The two Zenos watched, utterly enthralled. Afraid to blink, they absorbed every movement, every strike, every explosion. Their excitement grew with each clash.
********
After countless battles…
"Aargh… we lost again," Goku groaned, the last one standing before collapsing to the ground.
After fighting multiple rounds, the eight warriors had reached the low level of Rank 3. They had pushed themselves to their absolute limits, breaking through time and time again. But no matter how much stronger they became, Void always seemed to increase his strength—or rather, he simply revealed more and more of it.
Now, Void knew this was their current peak. They would remain stuck here for a while, but once they broke through, the power surge would be immense.
"Alas, it's over," Void sighed.
The spectators, both gods and mortals, sat in stunned silence, their hearts trembling from witnessing the sheer scale of battle.
"And so, the Tournament of Power has ended," the Grand Priest announced.
Everyone looked up as seven giant orbs—the Super Dragon Balls—appeared.
The Grand Priest spoke a command, and the Dragon of the Super Dragon Balls emerged.
Its immense size dwarfed everything, and with a single wish, all those killed—including Goku and the others—were resurrected.
Yet, despite the revival, the atmosphere was heavy. No one smiled, no one laughed.
Void had annihilated them.
He had essentially declared the entire Dragon Ball universe inferior, proving it through sheer dominance.
"Void… thank you," the Grand Priest said solemnly.
Void nodded. "My pleasure."
A portal opened before him—five meters wide—yet its mere presence made everyone's hearts skip a beat.
It was a portal to the Abyss.
They had seen it before, yet it still sent chills down their spines.
"Void! Will we meet again?" Goku weakly called out from the stands.
Void grinned.
"Warrior… farewell," Jiren said.
Void shook his head. "If destiny wills it… Farewell, Dragon Ball world. Live well."
With that, he stepped into the portal, and it closed behind him.
After Void's departure…
The gods and mortals erupted into discussion.
The Grand Priest, however, walked to the front of the two Zenos, his expression grim.
"The Omni-Kings… You received the message too?" he asked.
The two Zenos, usually playful, now wore serious expressions.
"A war between Rank 6 beings… and beyond," the Future Zeno muttered.
The Grand Priest nodded.
"If it's war they want, then they will get it," the Present Zeno said coldly.
His void-like eyes darkened, and for a fleeting moment, a divine figure appeared behind him before vanishing into nothingness.
