Chapter 32: ch. 32 Alaska
Walking out of the New Mexico hospital, Nick's arm now having stitches from being stabbed by a mutants knife. He didn't know if it was having a powerful constitution from absorbing creatures, but Nick didn't get infected or poisoned from that mutants dirty and unclean blade.
Nick once again got chewed out by Holly and demanded a full report, thankfully he'd been given paid leave after being the one to report another anomaly and got injured.
Apparently two teams went to the abandoned military facility with the majority of them being killed. After being told by Nick of what he'd experienced and seen, the government decided it was better off with just destroying all of it.
A dozen 10,000lb bunker busters and bombs tore the building to rubble, destroying all the facility and elimating the majority of the creatures. Nick had a feeling someone knew about the inhumane expirements that went on here and just decided to erase all evidence.
An additional team was sent to wipe out the remaining stragglers, although Nick knew a couple had to been captured to expirement on as thats basically the entire MO of the Marvel government.
Despite his injury and the news of the facilities fate, Nick had a smile as he looked at the photo that he had been given.
It was a picture of a hospital bedroom, Bobby and Bob were lying in hospital beds still alive and well while a dismembered Beast sat between them, his injuries matching Bobby's. Lynn was holding Catherine while Nick assumed Brenda was taking the photo.
The feeling of actually saving people sent a warm feeling in his body as he saved the Polaroid picture, but the Carter family survival wasn't the only reason for Nick's happiness.
News of Tony Stark kidnapping was everywhere, meaning the world was one step closer to getting iron man and Nick was one step closer to getting extremely rich off of Stark Enterprises stock.
Speaking of Stock, Nick's investments had been doing incredibly. The Umbrella stocks had a 32% increase, Weyland interprise stocks had a 27% increase but the cyberdine stocks had a staggering 179% increase!
Nick had managed to turn his $45,000 he'd invested from his bonus into over a $100,000 over the course of a couple months! This much isn't nothing compared to how much he'll make in the future but it was something.
After Tony stops manufacturing weapons and his stock drops, Nick will buy them for pennies on the dollar just before Tony becomes Iron man and creates the Ark reactor, an infinite power source!
Of course Nick plans on taking loans out and maxing out his credit cards, which he assumed would gain him around an additional $150,000 to invest.
With his investment future looking bright, his injuries fixed up and the people he saved looking healthy, Nick went to a travel Agency and booked a flight for his vacation.
Nick's only friend Willie was busy climbing the ranks, his Aunt Holly was constantly busy with work, his cousins were still in school and his uncle had to look after them.
Nick was all alone and he preferred it that way, being close with others would only draw them into his cursed bad luck. So Nick set off alone for Barrows Alaska!
*********
Soaring through the air on a small and shaky propeller plane, Nick clenched hard on the parachute he'd brought with him. He didnt trust planes for a second and was anxious the entire time after the snake incident.
Thankfully the flight was fine, just a little turbulence that frighten Nick but eventually they landed after 3 hours.
Exiting the small airplane and letting out a sigh of relief, Nick felt the cold air hit his body. He didn't seem to mind the cold and was just happy the flights over.
Nick had been so worried about flying that he bought the same Airplane simulation that the random civilian who landed the plane used and learn basic piloting skills. He was in no way capable of flying a plane but he was somewhat confident it crashing it safely.
Taking out his duffel bag from the planes storage compartment, Nick peered inside to check that nothing had rolled out. He had two 500 smith and western .50 cal revolvers, a Remington 870 shotgun with a box of slugs and and three knives. Nick thanked the pilot for flying him before they both exiting the small hanger.
With the town of Barrow being very rural and small, there was very rarely any flights coming and going so they kept it a single plane airport. All the town had was a bush plane that the pilot rode back and from Alaska to Washington.
Nick walked side by side with the pilot until they reached the man's large truck with studded tires and got in with the pilot. When Nick chartered his flight to this place, the pilot shuttling Nick to the town was also a part of the deal.
Buckling up and looking out at the snow lightly raining down, Nick could only shake his head at the cold but knew it couldnt be helped.
"Looks like we just barely made it in before the snow storm, this has got to be the worst time to have come. The month of darkness will start tonight."
"Month of darkness?" Nick felt uneasy at what the man was saying.
"You seriously didn't know about it before you came here? Hahaha boy you sure messed up. Starting tonight the sun enters the exact position where no direct sunlight reaches out town, only after a month will the sun shine upon us once more."
Nick's stomach was gurgling at that. He'd already booked his tickets and he did find it a bit strange that the closest return flight was in a month, but he figured he could hunt down a Polar bear in a week or two and spend the rest of the month relaxing.
That was the reason Nick was here in Alaska during his paid leave, it was because of what had happened in the New Mexico desert.
Nick had been idiotically saving his absorption slots in hopes of finding multiple powerful creatures to absorb, not wanting to have to wait a week to replace one of his used absorption slots. It was only after nearly dying that he realized his stupidity if holding off on filling his slots and immediately did his research.
Looking on the Internet Nick found multiple sites that he could pay to hunt a lion or grizzly bear, but that's when he found a report on a town in Alaska called Barrow that drew his attention.
Apparently they had a major polar bear problem, humans and sled dogs had been found completely ravaged. The sheriff and towns people had already killed three bears but still had more to deal with.
Seeing this as a way to kill and absorb a strong animal without having to waste his investment money, Nick pulled some strings to buy a Polar bear hunting tag for Alaska and booked the flight to this town after buying some snow clothes.
While this new predicament did unsettle Nick, he already knew the closest flight out was a month from now and just decided on doing his task before worrying about anything else.

The Truck drove through the heavy snow slowly and after 30 minutes, they finally got to the town of Barrow. Taking his duffel bag of cloths and paying off the man for driving him, Nick looked out at the snowy town with a strange apprehension.
*Gurgle*
Feeling his stomach demanding nourishment, Nick spotted an open dinner and slightly jogged over to it as light snow fell from the sky.
The old school dinner looked straight out of the 80's and had nearly a dozen patrons, a few looked at Nick with a curious gaze. This town was isolated and seeing a new face was always a spectacle.
Walking over to the empty booth, Nick sat down in a worn out diner seat and let out a sigh of relief feeling the warmth of the dinner and coffee smell hit him.
"What can I get you hun?" A middle aged waitress with a warm smile on her face walked over, her name tag read Shirley.
"Can I get a cup of coffee with steak and eggs, I'd prefer medium well" Nick felt his stomach growling just from seeing the other people food.
"Will that be all sweety?" Thinking about it, Nick also order an apple pie before the waitress walked away to fill his order.
'Ive already got the guns required to put down a polar bear, I'll just need to track one down and kill it. I gave myself a month long time period so if I do this quickly, I can actually treat this like a vacation and relax.'
Nick wasn't too worried about tracking down the bear, the previous beings he absorbed gave him an advantage over hunting.
The snake gave him thermal vision, the human gave him an overall boost to his body and health, the New Mexico mutant seemed to increase his strength and give him some resistance to extreme climates
Couple his powers with the high Polar bear activity in the area and Nick felt like this was gonna be easy, so long as nothing unusual happens...
Nick sat back and waited for his food to arrive, knowing he'd soon spend most of his time alone in the freezing snow. Willie had been Nicks partner and teacher, he taught Nick all of the trick of the trade but the number one lesson he taught Nick was to always be paranoid.
He was looking around and surveiling the locals, everything looked normal until he notice that a homeless looking blonde guy talking to a waitresses.
It started in hushed voices but Nick could see the waitresses face controrted in anger. Eventually the homeless mans voice rose and began making a ruckus that drew all of the diner patrons attention.
