Absence of Evolution

Chapter 6: ACT 1.5: The White Room

The void around him clouded his view, as Genesis felt stuck in a place that belongs to him, a place that he owned, his mind. He was trapped in his mind it was more blank than he excepted it to be, of course he had never been in someone's mind before. He looked at the Agent, the intruder of his safe haven.

It was in only a moment that Genesis felt his thoughts echo and leave him curling in a ball because of all the restless attacks of his mind. His own thoughts, even the subconscious ones were relentless in their assault. It was as if his mind was adapting to the presence of the intruder and it was punishing him for it.

Genesis tried to think conscious thoughts in the hope that his mind will listen to its rightful master and eliminate the intruder. Genesis wondered if this was how the Agents eliminated their hosts.

Genesis knew the capabilities of the Agents control now, but that would not help him survive, he knew that the victims of the Agents control don't even realize they are an Agent, from beating up the child he knew the Agents did not take damage in the host's body, he also knew that the Agent would kill by taking over someone's mind, thus giving them the abilities to dissolve and absorb their target.

Genesis pondered about what the slowly approaching doppelganger was going to do, before it killed him, maybe torture him in his thoughts for a while longer or any other activity a being that evolved to kill would do before completing it's purpose.

Genesis thought whether his comrades were trying to get him to snap out of his trance or if this all happened in a single thought. Whether the former or latter was correct he still had to do something to stop the corrosion of his mind. The more he thought the more the strings in his mind cut him and the more his mind imploded, his safe haven was soon to be gone.

He tried to think less and less but the more he thought of thinking less the more he thought more. The Agent approached him kicking him in the face, he felt it reverberate as the pain signals hit him like a truck twice. As curled up in a ball the Agent acted in his mind, implementing thoughts and those thoughts became a reality.

The Agent first thought of him just falling. Barreling through the air at uncountable speeds, many things were aggressive towards him, first there were eagles that ripped and shredded through his skin. Then a plane came crashing towards him, as well as all the passengers in succession, then the cargo was hauled towards him.

But it wasn't enough there was something the Agent wanted to achieve and Genesis swore even if it was the last thing he did he would stop the Agent from achieving its goal. Genesis finally fell hitting the ground with the force of a universe imploding, the pain numbed his body numbed his mind for a second, he wasn't berated by his own safe place, but only for a second.

The scene shifted to Genesis in a basin he was curled up in a ball and there was a gun in the bathtub with him. He picked up the gun even though every thought in his mind told and hurt him not to. As the gun was getting closer to his hand, Genesis tried to fight back.

'Futile.'

A voice rung out, damaging every fiber in his soul and also wrecking his attempt to stop, he picked up the gun and walked up to the mirror, he opened his tear filled eye and looked. In the reflection of the beautiful and pristine glass was something vile and a thing so evil it was better to leave it here for the world to never see it as famine and plague may befall it, the reflection in the mirror was his. His mind thought only for a second to end it all, but a second was all it took, the Agent latched unto the impurity of the reflection showing him images of it over and over, each one more degrading than the last. His mind finally snapped after his body did and he shot himself.

He awoke in the same bathing room but now with a hole in his head and scarlet liquid seeping out. He was bleeding but not dead, he looked in the mirror once again, the evil taking a shape less maddening it took a humanoid form. It looked taller than him and pale, other than that it had no other features.

The humanoid had a voice though, it screamed out.

"Why will you not die?!"

'Die, but I'm already dead, physically at least. Only physically!'

That was it! Even though the revelation hurt like a hornet injecting a neurotoxin in your veins, it was a breath of fresh air, a revelation that saved him. As long as he didn't die mentally he would keep going. Even if it wasn't true Genesis refused to give up.

In that moment Genesis's body motioned towards the cupboard he opened revealing medications, his arm cracked and twisted in an unnatural order as he reached for it. When his hand reached the medicine, he opened it, all completely against his will. He swallowed the pills, the combined mass and size of them scratching his throat before they finally went down.

It wasn't long before his mouth started to foam and his heart stopped beating and he died.

Genesis was brought back to the black void of his mind the Agent standing there in a rage, until it started cackling, a laugh that confused Genesis. The Agent walked up to him and just stopped. It took a while for Genesis too think of what he planned to do. It was then that Genesis saw the number 4 on the fake Genesis's wrist, Genesis knew that he had no tattoos and wondered where it came from, the special thing was that it was in roman numerals.

The still Agent was closing its eyes until Genesis stopped thinking entirely. It was sudden too hasty for Genesis to do anything about, all signals from his brain were just not sent, he stopped breathing, he stopped digesting and worst of all his heart stopped beating.

He only was allowed one thought in his empty, black mind.

'I'm going to die.'

A trick of his own brain, his mind was scrambling to send signals to the body its pushed its infinite buttons but only one worked for him to think he was dying. By the time Agent was upon him he didn't even know what happened, he wasn't cognitive in the moment and thought the Agent was trying to scare him so he let the Agent advance.

It's wasn't until the Agents tentacles came out and it crawled to him at speeds unknown to mankind that he knew that something happened. The Agent came to a complete halt as a hole was in its chest and a completely black hand was right inside the Agent. It fell down and died the body turning to dust.

When the dust was gone Genesis saw a figure, it was wearing a trench coat in which he wore on his back, the trench coat was a dark black, opposing what seemed to be the man's skin it was a heaven ivory, the purest white Genesis had ever seen. The figure donned a hat, weaved in a luxurious leather. The rest of the figure was a humanoid shaped and restless white, always changing form.

The figure looked around as if trying to search for something in the endless darkness of his mind. The figure finally opened its mouth.

"Wow, it was really that easy to find you. Before you open that mouth I want to tell you something. A lot of things actually but um let's get on with it. So the reason why your mind is blank is because you are like me, your mind is an empty space made to only adapt for your wellbeing, it corrodes and chips away at the characters of other people and devours them whole. To put it simply, you are a glutton a glutton that will never stop eating."

"What are you, how did you kill that thing and what are you talking about?!"

Genesis questioned in confusion.

"Don't act like you don't know it. Have you ever cared about anyone but yourself? Do you value human life?"

Before Genesis could answer wrong, the figure cut him off.

"No you don't your essence of mind is predetermined by the shape of your mind, all the morally "good" actions you try to do is just your mind adapting to whatever you want to feel. You have never been outside of your comfort zone and you never will, mentally at least. But anyway its going to get really mad for me just talking to you, how sad you were going to end up with her if I didn't end up talking to you. Yea by just talking to me your entire life is going to end up in shambles. You wanna know something else? Its really funny me and it, one minute were flirting the next its trying to erase me from existence."

The figure started to chuckled and break out laughing, until his appearance slipped revealing what it looked like truly and in its purest form. It was incredible too incredible, for a moment Genesis admired it, a paragon of beauty, a breaker of shackles, but in the next moment it was all too much this sight was not meant for human minds, it was meant for gods. Only the greatest and most powerful outer deities were supposed to behold its splendor, but mere human eyes pried into the dwelling of a god. If an outer god compared its mind to Genesis's then it showed he had potential but unfortunately his soul was shattering so he could not reach his potential.

Genesis suddenly woke up, panting in a haste to fill air in his lungs. The figure was standing above him, with a look of playful guilt in its movements. Genesis could now see a portion of the figure true self behind its persona, yet it didn't break his soul in two.

"So like... I kinda made your soul divine, the rest of it at least, to put it simply humans are not to pry into the image of the Purposeless Wanderer, if they do their soul turns to divine for their soul, then that affects their mind, then that affects their body. So for your soul it's kind of over there is only about 24% of it left, that was kind of my fault letting my true form slip, but on the plus side you have an increased chance of-. Oh wait you can't do that because your life is ruined. I'm sorry but I just made your life a lot worse. So because your soul is now mostly divine, I managed to siphon some of my divinity back that's why your still alive, your soul angers creatures of all degree and if they aren't admin or fixers they will try to kill you, with the added bonus that you will become extremely unlucky when the war is over, so keep your time well spent, Genesis."

Genesis was going to ask how he knew his name but the figure cut him off before he could ask.

"Does the Wanderer not know all?"

The figure gave a smile before disappearing leaving him in his mind all alone, it was only the darkness and him, this was that way for an eternity until, he was returned back to the moment when the child was pinned down.

'So it really only lasted a time for a single thought.'

Genesis was ordered to interrogate the child when he revealed that he was also taken over by an Agent and precise to say they had a lot of questions.

***

After being questioned by everybody he told them everything except he made a fake story that he defeated the Agent in his mind. After his comrade's believed his lies, the kid said a similar story of how he didn't know he was being influenced by the Agent, but he never had any "mind things" happen to him. Alto offered the theory that every Agent had their own way of life and maybe Genesis's and the kid's were different.

The kid was then asked if he was sure that didn't feel any violent tendencies and he confirmed he didn't, he was then asked his name in response he said.

"My name? I don't know if I have one. So you can just call me Smudge, that's what everyone calls me."
