A Western Kid’s Journey into the Eastern Cultivation World

Chapter 66: Chapter 66 Confronting the Horror

The Abyssal Horror loomed over the group, its form a swirling mass of darkness that seemed to devour the light around it. Tendrils of shadow lashed out, striking at the trees and reducing them to splinters. The Keeper was the first to react, launching herself forward with a battle cry. Her ice - blue sword swung in an arc, but as it made contact with the creature, the blade seemed to sink into the darkness without causing any visible damage."Physical attacks won't work!" Lyra shouted, her voice barely audible over the roar of the Abyssal Horror. "We need to find its weak point!"Jack felt the power of the merged orb and the forest coursing through his veins, but it was like trying to hold back a tidal wave. The primal urge to give in to chaos grew stronger with each passing moment. He gritted his teeth, focusing on the creature. "There!" he suddenly yelled, pointing to a faint, glowing core deep within the Abyssal Horror's shifting form. "That's where we need to strike!"Elder Li raised his staff, summoning a stream of golden energy. "I'll create a distraction. Jack, you and the Keeper go for the core!" The energy shot towards the Abyssal Horror, hitting it square in the "face." The creature let out a furious shriek and turned its attention to the elder.Taking advantage of the opening, Jack and the Keeper charged forward. Jack's sword, now blazing with a combination of forest magic and the orb's power, cut through the tendrils that tried to block their path. But as they got closer to the core, a wave of dark energy slammed into them, sending them flying backward.Jack hit the ground hard, his vision blurring. The darkness within him surged, and for a moment, he was tempted to let it take over. Images of destruction flashed through his mind—cities in flames, his friends lying defeated. "No!" he roared, forcing himself to his feet. "I won't be consumed by this!"The forest spirit, who had been watching the battle intently, raised her hands. A ring of glowing vines shot up from the ground, wrapping around the Abyssal Horror and temporarily holding it in place. "Now!" she shouted.Jack and the Keeper exchanged a glance, then leaped towards the creature's core. Jack's sword pierced the darkness, and a blast of energy erupted from the point of impact. The Abyssal Horror let out a deafening scream, and its form began to disintegrate. But just as it seemed they had triumphed, a figure emerged from the remnants of the creature. It was the lead cultist, his robes tattered but his eyes filled with a fanatical light. "You think you've won?" he cackled. "The Abyssal Horror was just a distraction!" With that, he raised his broken staff, and a portal began to form behind him. "My master awaits. And he'll make sure you all pay for your defiance!"Before Jack could react, the cultist stepped through the portal, which closed with a loud crack. The forest spirit let out a sigh. "He's escaped, but for now, the threat is neutralized."Jack sheathed his sword, feeling a strange mix of relief and unease. "We still need to reach the vault and get that tome. Who knows what other horrors the Abyssal Eclipse has in store?"As they made their way back to the ancient tree with the black pool, Jack couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. The forest seemed to have grown even more silent, as if holding its breath in anticipation. When they reached the pool, the water was calm, but Jack could sense a powerful presence lurking beneath the surface."The Guardian of the Vault will be more formidable this time," the forest spirit warned. "It has awakened fully, and it will stop at nothing to protect the secrets within."Jack nodded, his hand resting on the merged orb. "We're ready. No matter what stands in our way, we're getting that tome." With a final look at his allies, he stepped towards the pool, bracing himself for the next battle.
