A Western Kid’s Journey into the Eastern Cultivation World

Chapter 61: Chapter 61 Preparations and Revelations

The war room of the Mysterious Yin Alliance stronghold buzzed with a flurry of activity. Maps were unfurled across long tables, their edges weighted down by polished stones. Jack paced back and forth, the merged orb tucked safely away but its warmth still palpable against his chest. Lyra stood near a flickering torch, her pale features cast in an eerie glow as she studied the scattered reports brought in by scouts.Elder Li, his aged hands trembling slightly, traced a line on the map with a thin stick. "If the strange activity is concentrated near the southern border, then we must fortify the outposts there. But we're stretched thin. The last battle took a toll on our numbers and resources."The Keeper slammed her fist on the table, her ice - blue sword clattering against the wood. "We can't afford to be weak. We'll call in reinforcements from the smaller affiliated sects. They owe us for our protection in the past."Jack stopped pacing and nodded. "Do it. And we need more information. Lyra, is there any way to track down where the Order might be trying to awaken this ancient evil?"Lyra's icy blue eyes met his, and she let out a slow breath. "There's an ancient tome in my family's old vault. It contains maps and legends about places where such dark powers were sealed. But getting to it won't be easy. The vault is hidden deep within the Enchanted Forest, and it's guarded by powerful wards and ancient spirits."Elder Li's eyes widened. "The Enchanted Forest? That place is teeming with unpredictable magic. Even in its prime, our strongest mages struggled to navigate it safely.""I'll go," Jack said without hesitation. "I have the merged orb. It might be able to help us break through the wards."The Keeper crossed her arms. "Then I'm coming with you. You can't go alone into such a dangerous place."Before Jack could protest, Lyra chimed in. "I should accompany you as well. I know the way, and I might be able to help interpret the ancient texts once we retrieve the tome."With the plan set, preparations were made in haste. The Keeper gathered a small, elite group of warriors known for their agility and combat prowess. Meanwhile, Jack spent hours poring over old records in the stronghold's library, looking for any mention of the Enchanted Forest or the sealed evil.As night fell, Jack, the Keeper, Lyra, and the group of warriors set out. The moon was a sliver in the sky, casting a pale light over the desolate landscape. The air was thick with tension, and the only sounds were the soft padding of their footsteps and the occasional hoot of an owl in the distance. When they reached the edge of the Enchanted Forest, a strange, iridescent mist hung in the air. The trees at the border were unlike any they'd seen before—their trunks were smooth and silver, and their leaves glowed with a faint, blue light. As they stepped inside, the temperature dropped sharply, and Jack could feel the hair on the back of his neck stand up.Suddenly, a figure materialized in front of them. It was a woman, her form translucent and her eyes filled with a cold, otherworldly light. "Intruders," she hissed. "The forest does not welcome you."Jack stepped forward, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "We mean no harm. We're here to retrieve something from the vault in the heart of the forest. It's a matter of great importance."The spirit let out a laugh that sent shivers down their spines. "Many have come seeking the secrets of the vault. None have returned. Turn back now, or face the wrath of the forest."Lyra stepped beside Jack. "We know the password," she said, her voice steady. "'By the blood of the guardians and the light of the orb, we seek passage.'"The spirit froze, her expression changing from one of hostility to surprise. "How do you know that?""It's been passed down in my family for generations," Lyra replied. The spirit studied them for a long moment before finally nodding. "Very well. But be warned. The forest will test you. And the vault's guardians will not be so easily swayed."With that, the spirit vanished, leaving the group alone in the eerie forest. Jack exchanged a glance with the Keeper and Lyra. They were one step closer to uncovering the Order's plan, but he had a feeling that the true challenges were only just beginning.
