A Western Kid’s Journey into the Eastern Cultivation World

Chapter 158: Chapter 157 The Realm of Memories

As the blinding light subsided, Elara, Lyra, and Nox found themselves in a strange realm. It was a place filled with floating orbs of light, each one pulsating with different colors and auras. The air was thick with the essence of magic, and the ground beneath their feet was a translucent crystal - like substance, through which they could see faint images of the Worldtree's roots and ancient creatures.

"Where are we?" Nox murmured, his eyes wide with wonder and caution.

Elara looked around, her heart pounding. "I think this is the inner - world of the Worldtree, a realm of memories. The shard brought us here."

Just then, a group of shadowy figures emerged from the mist. They were tall and gaunt, with eyes that glowed a cold blue. "Intruders!" one of them hissed, its voice like the scraping of ice on stone. "You dare to enter the sacred realm of the Worldtree?"

Lyra drew her sword, her stance firm. "We're not here to cause trouble. We're trying to stop Xander from destroying the Worldtree."

The shadowy figures paused, as if considering her words. "Xander... the betrayer," one of them said, its voice filled with hatred. "He once was a guardian, but greed consumed him. He seeks to use the power of the shards to rewrite the laws of the world."

Elara stepped forward, holding up the merged shard. "We have this shard. We want to know how to use it to stop Xander and restore balance."

The shadowy figures surrounded them, their cold auras sending shivers down Elara's spine. But she held her ground, her eyes fixed on the leader of the figures.

Finally, the leader spoke. "The shards are pieces of the Worldtree's essence, but they are double - edged swords. To use their power, you must first understand the history of the Worldtree and the origin of the imbalance."

With a wave of its hand, the leader of the shadowy figures created a projection in the air. It showed a time long ago, when the Worldtree was in its prime, and the world was filled with harmony. But then, a dark force emerged from the depths of the universe, and Xander, who was supposed to protect the Worldtree, was tempted by its power.

"He made a deal with the dark force," the shadowy figure said. "He stole the shards, scattered them across the world, and began to gather them one by one, hoping to use their combined power to control the Worldtree."

Elara frowned. "But how can we stop him? There must be a way to use the shard we have to find the others and defeat him."

The shadowy figure pointed to a particular orb of light in the distance. "That orb holds the memory of the first shard's creation. It can show you the location of the remaining shards, but the journey there is dangerous. You will face the guardians of the memories, creatures born from the Worldtree's fears and hopes."

Nox nodded firmly. "We're ready. We can't let Xander succeed."

The three of them set off towards the orb, their senses on high alert. As they got closer, a huge, winged creature emerged from behind the orb. It had scales as black as night and eyes that glowed with a fierce red light.

"None shall pass!" the creature roared, its voice shaking the ground beneath them. "You who seek the forbidden knowledge, you will be destroyed."

Lyra charged forward, her sword swinging. "We don't have time for this! Move aside or be defeated."

The creature flapped its wings, creating a powerful gust of wind that sent Lyra flying backwards. But she quickly regained her footing and rushed at the creature again, this time with Nox by her side. They fought bravely, their weapons clashing against the creature's hard scales.

Elara took this opportunity to approach the orb. She placed her hand on it, and a flood of images and emotions rushed into her mind. She saw the vast landscapes of the world, and hidden within them, the locations of the remaining shards.

But as she was about to withdraw her hand, the creature let out a deafening scream and broke free from Lyra and Nox's attack. It lunged at Elara, its claws outstretched.

"Elara, look out!" Nox shouted, running towards her.

Elara turned, her eyes wide with fear. But at that moment, the merged shard in her hand glowed brightly, emitting a powerful force that repelled the creature. The creature let out a pained howl and disappeared into the mist.

Elara panted, looking at her friends. "I know where the shards are. We can stop Xander."

With new - found determination, they left the realm of memories, ready to face the challenges ahead and collect the remaining shards before Xander did.
