Chapter 153: Chapter 152 Clash in the Abyssal Temple
Elara's fingers twitched, the iridescent energy crackling around her hands like a live wire. "Xander," she spat out the name, tasting the bitterness of hatred. "What do you want with the crystal orb?"
Xander strolled further into the temple, his boots echoing on the ancient stone floor. "My dear Balance Child," he drawled, "that orb is the key to unlocking a power that will reshape this world in my image. The Worldtree has been meddling in the natural order for far too long, and it's time for a change."
He snapped his fingers, and tendrils of shadow shot out from the walls, slithering towards Elara like venomous snakes. She leaped into the air, flipping over the dark tendrils and landing gracefully on a raised platform. "You won't get away with this!" she shouted, launching a blast of energy at Xander.
The Shadow Sovereign merely raised his hand, and a shield of inky darkness materialized, absorbing the attack without a trace. "Is that all you've got?" he taunted, his amethyst eyes flashing with disdain. "You're not even a worthy opponent."
Just then, the sound of clashing weapons echoed from outside the temple. Lyra and Nox were still battling the horde of crab - like creatures, their shouts and grunts mixing with the eerie silence of the underwater ruins. Elara knew she had to end this quickly and help her friends.
She focused her energy, channeling the power of the Worldtree within her. The air around her began to vibrate, and a bright, swirling vortex of light and dark formed in her palms. With a fierce cry, she hurled the vortex at Xander.
The Shadow Sovereign's eyes widened in surprise as the vortex tore through his shield, hitting him square in the chest. He was sent flying backwards, crashing into a pile of ancient rubble. But he quickly recovered, his expression twisted in rage.
"You'll pay for that," he hissed, his hands glowing with an otherworldly purple light. He raised his arms, and the crystal orb on the pedestal began to shake violently, its swirling colors growing brighter and more intense.
Elara could feel the power of the orb calling out to her, its energy resonating with the shard she had yet to fully understand. She knew that if Xander got his hands on it, all would be lost. Summoning every ounce of strength she had, she charged towards the pedestal, determined to stop the Shadow Sovereign at any cost.
But Xander was faster. He lunged forward, his hand outstretched towards the orb. Just as his fingers were about to close around it, a shadow - tipped arrow whizzed past his ear, embedding itself in the stone wall behind him.
Nox stood at the entrance of the temple, his bow drawn and a fierce determination in his eyes. "Not so fast," he growled. Lyra, her sword dripping with the ichor of the defeated creatures, rushed to Elara's side.
"Together," Lyra said, her voice firm. Elara nodded, feeling a surge of confidence with her friends by her side. The three of them stood in a defensive formation, ready to face whatever Xander had in store.
The Shadow Sovereign let out a mocking laugh. "You think you can stop me with your little band of misfits?" he sneered. "You're all fools. But if you insist on fighting, then so be it. I'll enjoy watching you all fall."
With that, he unleashed a wave of dark energy that filled the entire temple, threatening to engulf them all in a sea of shadows. But Elara, Lyra, and Nox stood their ground, their resolve unshaken. The battle for the crystal orb had just begun, and they were determined to emerge victorious, no matter the
