A Western Kid’s Journey into the Eastern Cultivation World

Chapter 113: Chapter 113 The Abyssal Surge

As the cloaked figure dissipated into a cloud of shadowy mist, Jack's sword arm trembled with exhaustion. The merged orb in his chest still pulsed erratically, the balance of light and dark within it teetering on the edge. But before he could catch his breath, a deep, rumbling growl echoed from the depths of the abyss. The ground beneath them shook violently, and Lyra stumbled, barely catching herself on a jagged crystal formation. "What now?" she shouted, her voice drowned out by the increasing roar. Tendrils of dark energy that had once served the cloaked figure now thrashed wildly, as if possessed by a new, more powerful master.Elias lay crumpled on the ground, blood seeping from wounds inflicted by the very entity he'd once sought to ally with. His eyes, wide with terror, locked onto Jack. "The scroll... it was never the key," he gasped, his words coming in ragged breaths. "It was a beacon... to draw out the true horror."Jack's heart sank. He rushed to Elias' side, ignoring the danger that loomed. "What true horror? Tell us!" he demanded, his voice urgent. But Elias' eyes rolled back, and his body went limp. The Keeper, her face pale and drained, stared into the abyss. "I can feel it... something ancient and powerful is awakening," she whispered, her hands trembling. "We've only made things worse."Just then, a column of purple - black energy shot up from the pit, coalescing into a massive, grotesque creature. Its body was a writhing mass of tentacles and jagged, obsidian - like spikes, and its multiple eyes glowed with a malevolent, otherworldly light. A wave of pure dread washed over the group, freezing them in place.Elder Li, propped up against the cave wall, let out a moan of despair. "The legends... they spoke of a creature that guards the Abyssal Eclipse," he said, his voice weak. "A being so powerful, it was sealed away by the greatest mages of ancient times."Lyra tightened her grip on her dagger, though her hands shook. "Well, we've come this far," she said, trying to sound brave. "We can't give up now." But her words lacked conviction.Jack stood up, his gaze fixed on the terrifying creature. The merged orb in his chest began to glow brightly, its power responding to the new threat. Images flashed through his mind again - this time, of the ancient mages battling the very creature before them, and of a weapon forged from the essence of light and dark."I think I know what we need to do," Jack said, his voice steady. "But it's going to be dangerous. The Keeper, I need you to use your remaining magic to create a diversion. Lyra, cover Elder Li. I'll try to find a way to reach the creature's weak point."The Keeper nodded, her lips pressed into a thin line. "I'll do what I can, but I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out."As the group prepared for the final battle, the creature let out a deafening screech and launched a volley of spikes towards them. The air filled with the sound of shattering crystal and the cries of the wounded. Jack knew that this was their last chance - if they failed, the Abyssal Eclipse would consume everything.
