A Saiyan's Journey

Chapter 176: Merus's Attention

"What? You're planning to stay with Moro for a while?"

Upon hearing Zuke's plan, a Galactic Patrol officer exclaimed in disbelief, immediately waving his hands in objection.

"That's absolutely out of the question! Moro is too dangerous! No matter the reason, we can't agree to this idea!"

Allowing Zuke to meet Moro had already been a concession, only granted due to the divine token in his possession. Without it, this enigmatic individual would never have been allowed to see Moro.

However, after stepping out of the prison, Zuke unexpectedly announced that he intended to stay with Moro for some time, shocking the Galactic Patrol officers.

On one hand, Moro was indeed a significant threat. Although his combat power had been greatly diminished, he was still stronger than most Galactic Patrol officers.

Moro's death penalty had been indefinitely postponed for this very reason—the combined strength of the Galactic Patrol officers wasn't even close to that of a mature Saiyan, let alone enough to execute Moro.

Of course, to the Galactic Patrol, Moro's combat strength was daunting, but to the present Zuke, it wasn't much of a concern.

In truth, if Merus were willing, he could easily obliterate Moro personally—even without utilizing his angelic powers, Merus was vastly superior to Moro in his current state.

On the other hand, the Galactic Patrol officers were concerned that Zuke's proximity to Moro might lead to dangerous ideas.

For instance… helping Moro escape.

Although Zuke bore a divine token, the Galactic Patrol officers couldn't be sure of his true intentions. After all, history wasn't devoid of malevolent gods.

If Moro were to escape the Galactic Prison, recapturing him would be nearly impossible.

"May I ask, Mr. Zuke, why do you want to stay with Moro?"

Amidst the flustered Patrol officers, only Merus maintained a calm demeanor. He looked at Zuke and posed the question.

In truth, Merus was the only Galactic Patrol officer worthy of Zuke's attention. If Merus weren't present, Zuke might have resorted to outright intimidation.

"I want to learn magic techniques from him."

Zuke did not hide his intent. With a trainee angel present, concealment was unnecessary—Merus could clearly sense the magic within Zuke's body.

Given Moro's status as a formidable magic user, Zuke's desire to learn from him seemed reasonable.

"…Indeed, you possess magic, and Moro is one of the rare experts in this universe at wielding it."

Hearing this explanation, Merus actually appeared relieved. Zuke's magical aura made his reasoning seem credible.

If Zuke had given another explanation, Merus might have become even more suspicious of ulterior motives.

"If your goal is merely to learn magic techniques, I can authorize you to study with Moro."

"Merus!"

"How can you agree to this? That's Moro we're talking about!"

"If anything goes wrong, we might never capture him again! I've heard that the current Supreme Kai was once the youngest Eastern Supreme Kai—he wouldn't stand a chance against a fully restored Moro!"

Merus's words instantly caused panic among the surrounding Patrol officers.

Although Merus held a high level of authority within the Patrol, the mention of Moro, the most dangerous criminal, prompted a chorus of objections.

"Relax. I can sense that Mr. Zuke harbors no goodwill toward Moro. He won't do anything reckless."

Merus smiled, casting a meaningful glance at Zuke.

"You won't let me down, will you, Mr. Zuke? I'm vouching for you here."

Recognizing Merus's goodwill, Zuke nodded. He had no intention of releasing Moro—in fact, he was considering eliminating Moro entirely.

Moro's current combat strength posed little pressure on Zuke, even though it overwhelmed ordinary Saiyans and made execution impossible for the Galactic Patrol.

As for why Merus trusted him, it was likely because Merus believed Zuke wouldn't misuse his knowledge of magic to become another Moro.

Moro's greatest threat was his ability to devour planetary energy—a trait intrinsic to Moro's physiology, not something learned.

Since Zuke couldn't consume planetary energy to enhance his strength, Merus saw no issue in allowing him to study magic. At worst, it would create another strong magic user.

While Saiyans were notorious, Merus sensed a peacefulness in Zuke's aura, setting him apart from the typically ruthless Saiyans.

This unique quality made Merus see Zuke in a different light, viewing him as an exception among Saiyans.

Perhaps Zuke could become someone like Yamoshi, Merus mused as he watched Zuke walk toward Moro's cell.

"If I recall, they call it the Super Saiyan."

As a trainee angel, Merus was knowledgeable about many things, including the legendary "Super Saiyan."

Long ago, a Saiyan named Yamoshi transformed into the first Super Saiyan while leading his comrades against the wicked Saiyans. His legacy lived on through tales of the "Super Saiyan."

Having studied modern Saiyans, Merus found them mostly brutal and ruthless.

But Zuke was different. Perhaps he could achieve what Yamoshi did and become a Super Saiyan.

However, even Merus failed to notice that Zuke possessed another ability: a Stand called Blackbird.

He also didn't realize that Blackbird could acquire abilities by devouring things.

Merus had dismissed Zuke as non-threatening because he believed Zuke couldn't absorb planetary energy like Moro to grow stronger.

Unfortunately, Merus had miscalculated.

Once Zuke mastered Moro's magic, he had no intention of sparing Moro's energy-devouring ability either.
