A Sage's Pursuit of Power

Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Hyūga Clan Upheaval

Within the Hyūga Clan, a secret meeting was underway. Notably absent from this meeting was the clan leader, Hyūga Hiashi.

"Hiashi has completely aligned himself with the Hokage faction. He has betrayed our clan. Therefore, he is no longer fit to be our leader. I propose we select a new clan leader from the main family."

"However, there are currently no suitable candidates among the main family. None of them are of the right age."

"That's true. Until a new leader is chosen, we'll have to put in extra effort ourselves."

Though the elders' words sounded noble, their hearts were filled with greed for power. Yet none of them objected. As the primary beneficiaries of the clan's traditions, they had no reason to oppose such actions.

"In that case, it's decided. But first, we need to remove Hiashi. He is too close to Aoba Kamikawa and possesses formidable strength. We must act cautiously."

"We're prepared for that. I've already bribed several of Hiashi's guards. If they attack suddenly, they'll seriously injure him, making it easier to handle the aftermath."

"Excellent. Let's set the time for the operation."

"To avoid complications, we should act quickly. How about tomorrow?"

"That works."

And so, the main family elders decided the fate of Hyūga Hiashi and the Hyūga Clan, or so they thought.

In reality, when the meeting ended and they opened the door, the first person they saw was Hiashi himself.

The upheaval within the Hyūga Clan didn't cause much of a stir. This was primarily because Hiashi had acted with great discretion. Aside from Konoha's high-ranking officials, few people were aware of what had transpired.

Of course, the members of the Hyūga Clan knew exactly what had happened. Yet no one spoke of it, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

But they all understood that everything had changed.

Hiashi had never been a particularly decisive leader, but this time, he had struck ruthlessly.

The most critical reason for this was Aoba. While Hiashi appeared to have a good relationship with Aoba, he was, in reality, deeply afraid of him.

This fear didn't stem from Aoba's strength. After all, Aoba had a decent reputation in Konoha and rarely abused his power.

What Hiashi feared was Aoba's political philosophy.

Though only the Sarutobi Clan had been directly purged so far, and even then, not completely, as some branches remained. Hiashi, as a Hokage advisor, had access to far more information than Asuma. He was acutely aware of Aoba's stance on ninja clans.

The outdated, feudal systems within the Hyūga Clan were utterly intolerable to Aoba. If the clan didn't change preemptively, their fate could end up worse than that of the Sarutobi Clan.

For the sake of his clan, Hiashi launched this preemptive purge.

Meanwhile, in the laboratory, Aoba was speechless as he stared at the two pairs of Byakugan that Hiashi had sent him.

"I feel like Hiashi might have misunderstood something. But it doesn't matter, cutting through the chaos with a sharp blade isn't a bad outcome either.

Now, let's uncover the secrets of the Byakugan."
